One of my friends is staying in Chesterfield, MO... about 20 miles out from where I live. I decided that I could ride out to meet him for breakfast and get a good thirty miles in! (I could also swing by school to pick up my laptop and such.
For those who live in Saint Louis... if you haven't been to the Bagel Factory (at Olive blvd and Mosley Rd in Creve Coeur) you really ought to check it out. They have the best bagels in the city! They're boiled NY style so they're essentially fat free. Anyway, I rode my bike the 14-15 miles out there and finally rode the entire stretch of Delmar to Price Rd. There are some monster hills once you get out past Hanley! Oh man! I was really excited to discover that I didn't even flinch on those hills (or drop into the Granny) :D
All in all, I got in 30 miles today... all before the heat set in! It was just 75 when I left this morning at 7. Woo!

I thought it was a little cooler this morning. I'm curious what route you took. I work in Chesterfield and can't imagine how you made it from Delmar and Hanley!

Managed to find an opening between the never-ending rainstorms this morning to get in a 17 mile ride. Now it's monsooning again. :(

I would really like the rain to stop. I tried to ride between an open window on Sunday and got poured on. It took me longer to fully clean my bike than the ride I took.
Lisa, I don't know about where you live, but I think Thurs - Sunday we might be in luck with sunshine.

Rode to Indiana's high point today (1,257 feet, for those of you who need a good laugh!) -- 91 miles in the heat (92 degrees) and humidity of east-central Indiana. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED every minute of the sun!! Spent a good portion of the ride slaloming around all the horse manure in Amish country. Now that's livin'!!!!

Well I live downtown, so I rode Locust all the way to Grand and then jumped over to Washington until I got to Sarah and then jumped over to Delmar. I rode Delmar all the way until it ends at Price road. The monster hills are all West of Hanley I think. Then I took Price to Olive and road Olive (in rush hour traffic :() all the way to the Bagel Factory. To get home, I took Mosely to Ladue and then stopped by work and from there I did my usual commute route Ladue to Forsyth through forest park, west pine to boyle to olive and then locust all the way home. :)

Did lots of bike stuff today :) Rode about 20k this morning, felt crap, no energy, neck hurt etc but it was enough to tick the bike odometer past the 500k mark:D
Then had to go to town for other stuff and since I've been a bit concerned about my helmet since reading on here that they have a limited shelf life (and mine was well over a decade:eek:) decided to do something about that. So now I've got a nice new helmet that even matches my bike, and somehow also a pair of smartwool socks 'cos it's mid-winter here.
And then went to the physio and made some progress with the neck/postural issues :) Gonna be sore tomorrow ... :(

I remember when I passed a thousand miles! It was so exciting! I'm mad though because I'm pretty sure I've since put on another thousand, but the computer stopped working and I haven't been able to get it fixed. I've tried, but to no avail! But I think I've got 2k on my bike now :D

I did a very hilly group ride this evening and it was great because I was actually almost able to keep up. The main group rested a couple times and I just kept going because I knew they'd catch up to me again...and they did. I really think I could keep up if I could drop about 15 pounds. But I don't seem to be losing any weight so far this season, which really stinks.
One funny/gross thing on the ride...one guy's shorts were SO worn and thin that I could see his entire bare bottom and (sorry in advance) his butt crack clear as day. I was amused but I also realized that I didn't really want to be seeing this. Then I thought, OMG, I sure hope the shorts I'm wearing aren't worn out like that!

Bleecker- I'll take your monsoons off your hands if you'd like. ;) The 100 degrees with 60-70% humidity is killing me and my rides. Of course, then I'd complain about all the rain. I guess I'm only happy when I'm in Colorado in the summertime.
I only got 14 in yesterday. I'm not acclimated to this heat yet. Ran out of water, jumped in the lake halfway through the ride, then continued on. It was 101 with a heat index of 105 and I pushed much harder than I should have. Icky. It still felt GREAT to ride my bike, though, even though at the end I was struggling to make it back to the house (got chills at the end- not good).
I'll try again earlier today (not that that's much help anyway). :)

Last day of Bike Virginia--52 very rolling miles in beautiful 80s sunny breezy weather. Total for the 5-day ride is 241 miles. I took Monday off to work (but it was by the hotel pool, so I'm not complaining).
I only rode to and from work because of the heat...and it was really toasty both ways! On my way home (that glorious 5:00pm sun and heat) I felt like I was cooking on the street while I was stopped at a red light.

22 mile out and back with BF. Late afternoon clouds kept it from being outrageously hot. :)

Went on a 20 mile group ride last night. Tried out a new group. I was specifically looking for something a little easier/slower than the other Wed group I've been attending. It was OK. Small group of 5. One person was quite a bit slower than the rest of us (partly due to equipment I would think).
I looped back to give her some company a few times.
It was 102 degrees at 6:15 when the ride started. It was 97 at the finish. I felt fine in the heat. I've been really focusing on hydrating on and off the bike. I also have started putting Nuun in one bottle for electrolyte replacement.
Overall it was a bit too easy to be a training ride for me. But the social aspect was nice.
