They have a great deal on leather Ameribags - 50% off. I don't want to get stuck with a "second" that falls apart in six months. It's possible that this closeout is on colors that they're discontinuing, but it's hard to know. I'd rather pay full price than deal with the hassle. Any experience out there with them?

BTW - if you've never tried these handbags, they're fantastic. I took one to NYC. You can load that sucker up & it seems very light. There is a hook on the inside & I bought the mini-ameribag & hooked it inside. I put my money & I.D. in there. That way, when I opened the purse, it was securely fastened inside. Now, if I'm dashing into the grocery store, I can unhook the little purse & have my money, credit cards, etc. right there. Jeez, I sound like a commercial.

My experience with them is quite good. If they are seconds, they usually say seconds (for example, they usually have smartwool socks that are marked as seconds). If they don't say they are seconds, they are usually just old stock. For example, the shebeest jerseys, etc. are usually marked 2006 or 2007, but are perfect otherwise. They are also great about returns if you are not satisfied.

+1 on positive experience with STP. I've never had a problem. And their return process is a breeze if something doesn't fit or you change your mind.

I've always had very good customer service from them-even when I waited a long time to return something.

I've been buying various things from them for years and have never had a problem.

And if you buy enough, you get to be a preferred customer (or something) and they send you coupons all the time. Don't ask me how I know this.

I've ordered from STP quite a few times and always had a good experience. They have some great deals (if you like wool, check them out for Icebreaker tees at very reasonable prices--they have them fairly often).

as with any American company, shipping to Canada's horrendous, but otherwise the products are good. I've picked up some great Icebreaker stuff.

One thing to possibly keep in mind is that when you return stuff, they deduct the shipping off your credit instead of you paying for the return at the post office. And it's a flat rate of $6 or $7, so when I returned a pair of gloves worth about $10, I ended up with like a $2 refund.

Lucky you i have never gotten a shipping refund on a return, is that a Canadian thing or did you just put up a fuss?

That's only if you use their prepaid mailing label... I think it's $6 or something like that if you use that label to send things back and they do write that in tiny print on the label... However, you can send back as much as you want for that $6, I used to combine several orders of returns to them.

I haven't ordered from them in an awful long time.

But they do take returns without any problem, no matter how long it's been - and they do always have coupons.

If you go to fatwallet.com, and do a search for something like official sierra trading post coupon thread, people post all the coupons. retailmenot.com may have them posted as well.

fatwallet.com gives cashback if you click through them to buy on sierra, and probably bing live (microsoft live) cashback does as well.

I've ordered everything from camping gear to cycling gear to swim suits to dog beds...well, you get the idea.

I've been ordering from STP since the 80s, back when they had a catalog with drawings of items.

I do snoop around the web to find coupon codes before I order, though.

Oooo! Also, if you get the chance, go to one of their stores. They have a "bargain basement" - I know, they have that on line too, but they have all of the returns there. I bought a cashmere sweater top (short sleeves) for $12 - was originally $135 (at STP - not in a store)! Someone bought it, returned it and STP doesn't put returns back out with regular merchandise so I scored! I cannot tell you how many times I have scored like that there. I live about 25 minutes from one of their stores ... good thing? or bad???

Thanks for all of the GREAT advice! I got my purse and it's more gorgeous than the pictures. The two pairs of workout shorts actually FIT and are really cute! Plus, I have a 20% off coupon for my next order...yippee!

wow, I would be in serious trouble.

the figure I have "saved" at STP (which they kindly keep a running tab of and print on every invoice) is frightening in itself.

I've gotten some great deals, and on the few occasions I've returned items it's been quite painless.

I just googled Sierra Trading Post to see where my nearest outlet is - and found COUPONS.

This is very dangerous. I hadn't intended to revitalize the economy single handedly.

Official STP addict here! The UPS man must wonder what's going on in this house with all the STP boxes being delivered all the time.

If you get one of their VISA cards, you get free shipping on all orders AND earn points which add up to $25 gift cards.

And if you sign up for their Deal Flyer emails, you get special deals almost every day (yes, you get an email almost daily but I think it's worth it). A couple weeks ago there was a 40% off deal and I picked up a pair of Tevas for my dad for Father's Day...retail $80, I paid $19.50!

All my PI shorts, many of my jerseys, my Crankbrothers pedals, and my Sidi road shoes are all from STP. Also, lots of my clothes and shoes, ski gear, camping gear, sunglasses, Smartwool socks...you get the picture. You just have to check their website periodically to see what they have.

I get the emails daily. Great deals there!
