Since this seems to be a major topic of conversation around these parts and today's posts have been making me giggle, I thought I'd start an extra silly one.
What WON'T you eat? For instance, I know someone who doesn't like raisins in her carrot cake or dried cherries in my chocolate choc-chip muffins. I did manage to convert her to the evilness of fresh home-raised apricots.
I personally won't eat tomato aspic or eggplant, but I LOVE brussel sprouts.
What brings out the princess in you?

You're EVIL Sarah. Just plain evil! Do you know how long my list will be?
Brussel sprouts, eggplant, cooked raisins, cherries, too much broccoli (a little is okay), uncooked meats (bad sushi experience), Cold Stone ice cream. I still shudder when I think about why I don't eat that. :D I'll think of more.
I did have ice cream for lunch - Dreamery Peanut Butter Cup. Hey, I rode 45 miles this morning. It's what I wanted for lunch. And you all thought I was kidding when I said I rode for ice cream. :p

Green peppers in general. Leave them on the plant, let them turn red. Now you're talking.

You're EVIL Sarah. Just plain evil! Well, one of my little goals will be to make your list shorter! I learned to love both acorn squash and sweet potatos as an adult. There's still hope for you.
Now, green peppers on pizza - I'm gagging right now. :o Yeah, let them grow up first.

1.Meat!
Been veggie for 4 years, but I do actually eat some fish so I'm not a true veggie.
2.Anything that's not grown organically.
No- that's not true, although I do make an effort to go for the organic option where ever I can.
Apart from that I'm incredibly unfussy and there's not much I won't eat. I don't like pears very much and I don't go for oranges much either but that's only because I can't be bothered to peel them, so I don't think that counts, and I love orange juice.

WOW! So far I love everything you all hate. I especially love green peppers on my pizza (add mushrooms and I'm in heaven!). Also love eggplant, broccoli, brussel sprouts eveything. Not the biggest meat eater only because my system does not digest it well. I do love sashimi (raw fish) and most sushi in general (hey, my heritage - I grew up on the stuff). About the only things I just won't eat are: LIVER (and any other organ meats), and banana squash. I love squash in general but I think because my mom made me eat banana squash as a kid, which was slimy and ucky, I just can't tolerate it now. Also, I can't eat garlic (allergy) so I tend to stay away from Italian food and other ethnic foods unless I prepare them myself. You'll be amazed at how good stuff is without the garlic! Yes, I know I'm the only person in the world that doesn't like garlic. It's very hard for me to eat out since most restaurants delight in using garlic. Japanese is the only exception which is probably why it's my favorite. And for some reason, since, unfortunately I enjoy most sweets, I don't like really sweet stuff like pecan pie, flan or custard. But ice cream, now that's a gift from heaven!!!!

I just learned to like eggplant....the skinny japanese kind. I chop it up and put it in a Mediterranean pasta sauce I make.
I will not eat escargot. Not ever, can't make me, nix, nope, no way.

I can't force bananas past my teeth. *Shudder*
Or tomato soup. Or soggy bread (think French dip sandwiches). Not fit for human consumption. Bleh.
Other than that, I'm pretty non-picky, as long as the food is is good quality - and I define quality.

Liver and onions. I have a friend who eats that stuff like it's the best food on the planet.

Ah yes - heard of pescatarian before, but it's always got me confused as it makes it sound like you only eat fish. Makes me sound like a penguin.:p
Just remembered - I have a problem with sweet corn out of the can. When I was at uni I was in catered halls and they used to serve it to us at least 3 times a week and it always tasted like disinfectant. YUCK.

I think it pretty much goes without saying that most of us won't eat bugs (or anything else featured in the "Fear Factor Cafe"), so we probably don't need to list those things.
I like most foods. Not fond of Brussels Sprouts, but I bet if they were cooked exactly right (like with bacon), I probably would like them. Just about everything else mentioned here so far I like pretty well. Never had snails, but I would try them. Love green peppers (but red are better). Oh, I don't like liver, but how often am I offered it (Answer: never). I don't care for olives; that's probably the one I run into most often (on pizzas, in food someone else makes), and I don't care for capers.
My don't like list is much shorter than my do like, which isn't always good for my waistline! ;)

Let's see...
I love sushi, any tartar, and eat my steaks screaming rare. I guess i don't have a problem with meat, unless somebody cooks it too long (or at all in some instances)
I don't like cake, except the one my roomie makes (death by chocolate).
I don't like to be in the same room as brussel sprouts or cauliflower. I'll eat brocolli in chinese food only. I cannot abide cooked bell peppers of any color. Most other veggies I'll eat raw or cooked.
And due to a childhood of eating hamburger meat 6 of 7 nites (blast the creation of Hamburger Helper) I don't touch burger, unless it's on a hamburger bun with all the fixin'.
Organics - yuck to tofu and unsweeten fruit juices and unsalted nuts. Ditto on "natural" peanut butter.
Wow! I'm hungry... I gotta go hit the fridge :D

Funny topic for me ... there are VERY few things I won't eat ... and those things are pretty extreme: tripe, sweetbreads, tongue. Gross, huh? :) I was one of those rare kids who actually liked almost everything; and if I didn't like something, I didn't like not liking it ... so I'd keep trying it until I eventually learned to like it. Tomato aspic is one thing I couldn't handle, but I haven't tried it since I was a kid, so can't say how I'd react now. We were in Scotland for my 10th birthday and I requested hagis (sp?). Not so sure I'd eat it now. And I remember going to a Greek restaurant when I was about 12 and ordering octopus. My mom looked at me and said, "are you sure?" I was; don't think I loved it, but I ate it. If I had to say the things I'm least likely to eat now, it's the most processed stuff: cool whip, twinkies, traditional frozen entrees (although I do love Stouffers mac & cheese :)). Gotta say, I love food and enjoy almost all of it. A blessing and a curse.

Eeew, top of my list is yerba matte (hubby loves it, yuck), I'll also pass on capers (what are they?) and olives. I have to pick raisins out of everything ( I do keep trying it in trail mix, but always have to spit it out).
Spazz - feel free to pass me any of that cake you don't like...I love cake!!!!! Oh, all I can think about is cake right now. Yummmmm.

Runny eggs - don't even like to be at the same table with 'em.
I'll try most things once, and it's a pretty short list of things I'll never try a second time: tripe, menudo, various assorted organs - blech. And raw sea urchin - yuck. Ditto clams. (But strangly, mussles are ok, with enough garlic and butter ...)
And I don't think I've ever met a vegetable I didn't like, but peas are the ones I like the least. I LOVE the veggies many people dislike - brussel sprouts, lima beans, spinach, chard (probably because they all go so well with garlic!)
I can't begin to list all the foods I wouldn't eat, especially if we started counting bugs as food! However, at the top of my list you will find sardines--and along with them, any other creature that you could see it's eyeballs as you eat it. EWWWW!

these are things i really do not eat
* Liver, chicken liver's ok but beef or calf no, covered in mountains of onions and bacon I might have a taste. Strangely I like liverworst.
* Eggs with runny yolks. Hard boiled, scrambled are fine....just no runny yolks
with enough cheese and or sour cream I might even be able to eat these.
OMG, I keep re-reading this thread and while there are things I like more or less than others for example I once had a bad octopuss experience, my ex had to do the Heimlech, really! So I avoid that but in theory I like it. And ok, brains, tongue we used to have that when I was a kid, still not my favorite and would push it around the plate.....
but with enough cheese, garlic and or sour cream.....
Most people's lists read like a menue I'd have plenty of options on. So i want to go out with you folks because the stuff you won't eat I'll take.

Smoked oysters - yummmm! Always in my Christmas stocking along with pickled okra. Ok, so I was a weird kid (with good taste). :p
Black licorice - Peee-uuu! Well, unless it's candy-coated and called Good and Plenty. :o
wow
I could go on and on...but I'll list a few and dredge up a few childhood memories of good ol' mom's cooking....
tongue
sauerkraut
weiner lasagna
runny eggs
escargot
overcooked meat of anykind
crab
lobster
pickled herring
cilantro
onions - but only because I"m allergic (and, yes, I'm a real joy in a restaurant!!)
cheesecake
any desert made with nutrasweet
coffee!!! and all things that have a coffee taste including tiramisu
olives
salami
liver. also have enjoyed liverwurst, but figure it's from the extra fat, so I avoid that too
trout
cabbage rolls
cooked cabbage
weiners
squash and sweet potatoes!
cooked carrots!
cod baked in some kind of milk concoction. blech
most processed things...
and the only bugs I eat are the ones that get there at speed.
well, that's probably enough to list for now...
whoeever didn't like capers - have you ever had fried capers? now, I don't mind capers in the first place, but hate how they repeat on me for hours. the fried ones were tastier and didn't repeat!!
here here for peppers other than green, although I find the orange ones taste the most like candy to me!
I've often said that it's a good weight management ploy to be such a fuss a**. there's many foods I just don't like, and lots of fattening ones that I can easily say no to....it's kind of handy in a completely annoying way! heehee
oh, and peas fresh in the pod are fabulous, but cook em, even the home-grown ones, and yuk yuk yuk

I have a reputation as a picky eater. Among my other dislikes:
legumes of all shapes and sizes (it's a texture thing)
mustard (the taste, smell, sight, even the thought of it)
ketchup (but I LOVE tomatoes)
mayo and anything made with mayo
creamy salad dressings and cream sauces
any more than mildly/moderate spicy food
most seafood except shrimp and some fish
eggs in any form except scrambled
sour cream unless used in baked goods
cream cheese except in baked goods
coffee
beets, olives, green peppers, hominy
coconut, dried bananas, grapefruit, avacado
organ meats and hotdogs

no organ meat cept gizzards
mushrooms, I know what they grow in :D
will eat mayonnaise on turkey sandwich only
Cook brussel sprouts in a iron frying pan with butter OMG - the only way I will eat them.
no seafood/fish cept crabs, canned salmon and tuna- I will eat but rarely, I don't really like them.
There are a lot of foods I don't like much but will eat them:
chocolate ice cream
asparagus

Hrm. I'm trying to think of foods that I won't eat and the only thing that comes to mind is haggis. :) I had a bad haggis incident when I was younger. Maybe if I go to Scotland and try it there, I'll give it a try again, but I won't touch it till then. :p
But, I love all kinds of food from the ordinary burger & fries, to sushi/sashimi, to tripe, menudo, and sun dried squid heated over an open flame (it's alot like jerky). I've even walked around work before absentmindedly chewing on a tentacle covered in suckers. My coworkers give me odd looks.
I do have to say that there are some foods I'm sure I wouldn't like much if I tried them. I remember eating one thing called amuck (not sure of the spelling). It wasn't bad... just... odd... :p

OK what is yerba matte?
Capers: a small berry usually pickled. Adds a peppery taste to food. It's delicious in dishes using butter and lemons. My favorite (and I make it often) is Chicken with Lemon/caper/butter sauce. Mmmmmm good! Also like them in my salads.
Its amazing to me that so many people don't like green peppers, and most fruit and vegetables for that matter. I love all fruit (although bananas and mango are not faves) and all vegies, including gross ones like okra and especially love artichokes. Just not a fan of some meats but I think its the way my mother prepared them when I was a kid. She cooked everything to death. Like Spazz, I now love and will only eat steak rare. I haven't eaten or been offered lamb since I was a kid and I don't go out looking for it. Liver, well there is just no reason to eat liver.
Tend to stay away from some ethics foods but only becuase of the use of garlic but love Japanese, Mexican, Greek, Persian, Indian, Thai and Chnese. Just need to find someplace that will prepare dishes without garlic.

Jeez, food is a hot topic, yes?
I have a complete texture rating system, since I seem to have more of an issue with texture than flavor.
Class I: can't even put it in your mouth
Class II: it tastes good, but still is routinely passed by because the texture is just WRONG
Class III: it tastes good and the texture is not the best, but not so bad that you can't eat it.
Class IV: good texture and flavor
Typically I only refer to classes I and II and supplement the descriptions, calling them "Class I (or Class II) texture violation". Examples for me are Class I: whole (itty bitty) octopus; and Class II: raisins (yes, I'm with V on this one). For me, chicken is a class III.
This system was formulated on a long bird watching trip where we didn't get much sleep, drank a lot, and didn't shower for 5 days.

I've had rattlesnake and gator meat.... tastes like chicken :D I make a damn fine gator tail chili!
I had lamb tonight at my roomies b'day celebration... though it was Morrocan, so I can't identify the sauce. It was on a bed of cous cous with goat cheese. YUMMY!
I'd have to agree on some of the other no-no's though:
tripe, pig knuckles, haggis, capers, any thing with dill (except I love dill pickles), sacerin, nutrasweet, passion fruit, yams, sweet potatoes (aren't they the same thing?), "stuffed" things (mushrooms, peppers, artichokes).
But heck, a potluck is a good idea. I'll just bring a tupperware full of sliced jalepenos and I'll be OK. Everything tastes better with some "hot" on it.

Most everything that came out of the water with the exception of canned tuna, fresh salmon, cod and tilapia"
all things I like, well I can take or leave Hominy
"Meat subjects with more or less than 4 legs and no baby ones."
ok I need an explanation of this. I've had bear chili, Bambi, Rudolf (reindeer steaks and roasts in Norway) all good, well the chili was a lil' greasy.
"Chicken. Turkey ok, chicken yucky."
both fine and I love
"Overly spicy dishes.
Sausages, except sometimes the breakfast kind that I use for biscuits and sausage gravy.
Bratwurst, etc."
"Any animal's recognizable part ie:feet, tongue, tail etc.
The local delicacy-Brain Sandwiches. Super-barf."
these I probably would order something else. I'm finding out that I'm not picky.

Alright Trek420! I could have used you around the house when I was a kid! If I didn't like it I'd sneak it onto your plate.
You'd have been well-fed.

I would have to agree with some of the others, cooked green peppers. To me they seem to "contaminate" all other surrounding food. What i mean by that is they seem to make everything else taste like pepper then.

I was in rural mississippi once and the guy I was working with got some "imitation bologna". What the heck there is to imitate to begin with, I don't want to know.
Government cheese is pretty nasty.
For those who eat sushi, Uni (sea urchin). AHHHHH - tastes like a big ol' snot.
What's up with people who can drink a glass of raw eggs?
Greenish bananas. They need to have spots.
Cooked spinach. I'll eat it raw, but cooked.... blech.
Head cheese. I've never tried it but I'm pretty sure I'd not like it. It just looks scary.
Liverwurst, olive loaf, and other various scary lunchmeat type products.
Bran muffins.
Hormel Chili.
Spam.

Vegemite....
Oh, you non-antipodean cretin!!! I, on the other hand, will eat pretty much anything other than Marmite... (A matter of principle, of course.)
Actually, I have been known to spit out toast after unknowingly spreading (barfpukegag) sweetened peanut butter on it. And I can't stand the texture of pears and fijoas.
Even though I certainly like some stuff a lot better than others, about the only thing I'm likely to find in a dish and pick out is excessive amounts of raw onion (mostly because of the onion breath burps hours later - TMI? ), and when I'm going through the desert menu I stay away from sloppy, blandish things like custard (but why would anyone choose anything other than the chocky laden cake/mouse/whatever if it's on offer?).
I think I'm another texturally influenced diner. Crunchy is good. Chewy is decent. Sloppy better have a lot of flavour. Gritty is bad.
Probably would eat bugs if someone dared me... (See "crunchy is good." ;))

Ew - can't stand the texture of pears either. And I don't eat anything that is served in it's house - oysters, mussels, lobster, crab. No veal, no innards. I tried calamari - nih! It's OK, but not anything I'd go out of my way for. Oh, and keep cashews away from me, ick.
On the other hand, we have a new Vietnamese restaurant in town, Anise Cafe, I am in love with Corn Fritters. And Fondant au Chocolate from the Left Bank, and garlic fries at Rosie McCann's......

I've had rattlesnake and gator meat.... tastes like chicken :D I make a damn fine gator tail chili!
Mmmmmmmm Gator...
Ever had Gator jambalaya? :) Mmmmmmmmmmm
I had lamb tonight at my roomies b'day celebration... though it was Morrocan, so I can't identify the sauce. It was on a bed of cous cous with goat cheese. YUMMY!
Mmmmmmmmm Lamb
[stuff cut]
yams, sweet potatoes (aren't they the same thing?)
Nope. Yams and Sweet Potatoes are different. A true Yam isn't grown in the US, but Sweet Potatoes are. You can find more info at this link:
http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/hil/hil-23-a.html
But heck, a potluck is a good idea. I'll just bring a tupperware full of sliced jalepenos and I'll be OK. Everything tastes better with some "hot" on it.
My problem with jalapenos is, to me, they don't have alot of flavor. Give me habeneros any day. :)
In fact, I think I'll grill some on the barbecue tonight. Mmmm roasted habenero peppers. My pain receptors are already firing just thinking about it. :D

For some reason I don't eat raw tomatoes, raw onions, lettuce and most other salad veges. So therefore, I don't really eat salads. Exceptions being Potato salad, Tuna Pasta Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad (minus the lettuce) and oddly enough, KFC Coleslaw.
I don't drink coffee (when I was kid I was given a coffee instead of a hot chocolate drink. I remember it had a yukky taste).
I refuse to eat weetbix with milk.
And if I consume too much dairy products or white bread products I get an upset tummy. And anything to do with citrus fruit, particularly oranges, gives me a bit of a headache. They're my food intolerances.
On the upside I absolutely love cheese, the stronger the better.
I am partial to most types of pasta dishes.
And as my parents back home own a bakery, I have a liking for pastries, fruit slices, muffins, cakes and sweet biscuits. Bad for you, but so yummy.
Oh, and I'd better meantion Diet Coke. I'm trying to wean myself of that stuff.

mmmm salty.

Marmite and vegemite both yeast products... marmite bad... vegemite good
If you're a yeast freak like me then try a fresh bread sandwich (has to really fresh and soft and pref white) with a little olivani, butter or whatever you use... a healthy spread of vegemite and then sprinkled with Brufax (this is a flaked yeast as opposed to powdered or grains)

Just divine when I am REALLY hungry or REALLY tired
Pickled bologna is truly vile. You can find it in any grocery store. It usually comes in a vat as big as your head!!!!!!!!!! Think ring bologna that has been pickled.
HAH!!! Now I am not even a bit hungry. I should use that visualization a bit more often!

OK - am I the only one, who at age three, tasted coffee and LOVED it? I used to snitch sips from my mom's cup when she wasn't looking. I still love it - it was my crutch when I quit smoking 12 year ago.

Grandad used to give me spoonfuls of coffee from his cup when I was very little - heavy on the cream and sugar! It's such a fond memory, I've experience total olfactory bliss when I smell coffee! Too bad I can't drink it anymore - now I'm totally a tea drinker. Ah, tea!!!

I've been drinking coffee since I can remember. Granny used to give it to me. I'd load it up with cream and sugar though. They say it stunts your growth. If that's true, I'm glad since I'm 5'10 :D
Today I'm a total coffee junkie, though I take it strong and with non fat milk and 1 fake sugar. I got hooked on strong coffee in Paris. Same with dark chocolate.

I will never ever buy a Peets jersey... I went into the one down by the Lake last time I was in Oakland, and what a bunch of snobs. I ordered a vanilla latte, and they told me they wouldn't make it because the flavor ruins thier coffee. Give me a break.
