As mentioned elsewhere today, we cycled total of 81 kms. which included an opening celebratory event of a new road bridge for cars with bike lanes.

It was this area where I went to work with long daily commutes ..our company designed & constructed the bridge, highway ramps and bike ramps (which have people walking today in photo). Today they did not allow any bikes on bridge deck...to allow crowd of people to walk about. Probably their only car-free chance (unless there is another similar car-free event).

There were lots of cyclists, cycling to event & parking their bikes at both ends of bridge.

Birds that you see attached up on bridge towers are golden eagle sculptures. There are eagles in the area. It is part of the design for the Golden Ears Bridge. (approx. 20 kms. north of the Canada-U.S. border). River that you see is the Fraser River where in peak years, million salmon swam inland. In one of the photos, I am standing in the bike lane of the road bridge deck above the river. Bridge is 1 km. long.

News article also mentions a pregnant woman who had to be rushed to hospital when she had labour contractions. Paramedics were on strike. I saw 2 fire trucks with sirens..slowly going through the crowds. At that time, had no idea until I read this article now.

Cool. They opened a new section of highway here and allowed runners and cyclists to use it for one day--however, it was January--we chickened out.
