What's your favorite "going to the grocery store" bike?

Right now, I use my mountain bike and a backpack. I'm dreaming of something cooler! :-)

I just stop by on my way home from work with my roadbike. I stop every day so it makes it easy to carry everything in my Chrome bag!

If I had to a get a bike to haul stuff it would be the Kona UTE!!! http://www.lesoftparade.com/boards/images/smilies/thinlove.gif

A year ago I considered xtracycling some kind of beater hybrid into a hauling machine. I still think about it! I especially lust after Surly's big dummy:

Same bike as I use for everything else.. (commuting, touring, fitness, etc.)

The thing is that a fitness or commuting ride changes to a grocery transport ride thereafter since we don't have a car. Often I only make the effort to put on 1 bike pannier even though I have a pair of panniers. Thankfully places where we grocery shop regularily, are under 7 kms. I'm riding vaguely lopsided weight-wise at times. I rarely use a knapsack while cycling.

Since we live not far from several choice stores and a market (or now that it's summer, several neighbourhood farmers' markets. Lucky us.), he and I make several mini trips. Grocery shopping is done in bits and pieces whenever each person can weave in a stop along the way in their daily ride.

It works well for us. Between he and I, it's 4 bike panniers for grocery stuffing.
If we are desperate, we do have a B.O.B. trailer and he has used it on the rare occasion for big item purchases. But B.O.B. used more for long distance bike touring. He does have front racks for a total of 4 panniers..but again only for touring not for grocery shopping. That would be abit of overkill.

Living in a city has definitely enabled me to shop more often. I feel I eat more healthfully when I make frequent shopping trips. You don't have to worry about shelf life if you're eating the food tonight!

Also does your bob trailer ever become a problem with curbs in the city?
