hmm... I tried some intervals today. It was difficult to get my heart rate to even stay at 158-160 consistently, partly because I'd lose focus, but also because there's not really a stretch of road that "lasts 10 minutes", without disturbance.
Better to do that on the trainer? Silly me...
also I test-drove (ahem rode) the tri shorts and they still ride up on my thighs and it looks nasty :mad:. But I have to use them. Grr. DBF has my piston shorts that don't do it.
I do sometimes do intervals on the trainer exactly because it can be hard to find an 8 min uninterrupted stretch of road. Red lights, stop signs, other traffic can all make the road a bit too unpredictable to do really precise intervals.

I found intervals to be the only tolerable thing I can do on the trainer. On the road,it's too hard to find an uninterupted stretch (especially doing hill-climb intervals.)
On the trainer, having a goal with a set time makes the time go by much faster. Still hate intervals and still hate the trainer, but it does work.:cool:

Intervals?? Do you mean riding at a higher intensity for a specific amount of time? Like in running? Am I oversimplifying it?
Sorry for the total beginners question.

I can't stand riding indoors so I ride on the road as much as possible. I also do intervals on the road because my heart rate is much different and the sensations don't feel the same. Like how much effort I am putting out compared to my heart rate indoors. I try to do all my intervals outdoors where time and weather permits. I like to do them on a hill or on a uninterrupted road. Luckily there is a few good places around. Also if your interval is 10 minutes, but you can only find 5 minutes of road then make a U-Turn and just turn around and head back. Or if you have a 10 minute climb, you'll need less road. And you can use the descent as your recovery time.
