I've never worn capris or crop pants, I want to get some(jeans and khakis) for travelling. Which ones do you recommend? Is one considered a little more dresser than the other?

I would get whatever you feel most comfortable wearing. When I went to Maui I wore drawstring crop pants.

I am utterly convinced that cropped pants are dressier than capris. After all, I wear cropped linen pants to work from April to October. Dressy enough! :D

OK, now I'm confused. What is the difference between capris or crop pants? They are not one and the same?

I am *not* a fashion maven but I thought that cropped pants are pants that are a few inches short (e.g., above the ankle) whereas capris are shorter (e.g., below the knee) and have a closer fit.

I'd try them on and see which one is more flattering. Crop pants make my legs look stumpy, but capris are ok.

I can't really wear either as my legs are big and short. Cutting the pant leg off before it gets to the ground just makes me look even more 'hobbit-like'.

Hell, even long shorts are a bad look for me.

I would try them on and see how you feel in them. I think that the dressiness factor is determined more by the style and the fabrication than by the length of the pant. Cropped cargo pants will look much more casual than a fine twill capri, you know? Add a elastic/stretch and drawstrings, and they get even more casual.

I do wish I had longer legs, because these types of pants can really add a lot of variety to ones wardrobe!

I have some jean capris that I just bought from Old Navy... They are comfy. I'm picky though.. Some look like high waters on me :). Bermuda shorts are kinda cute, too!

Personally I only will wear capris... I am pretty short (5' 4") and cropped pants just look ridiculous on me! I think taller women can wear them and they do look much dressier than capris. But for me I feel a lot more comfortable in capris.
Also in terms of being dressy, I think it really depends on the fabric... obviously jeans are more casual but it you go for a white denim or linen fabric it will look nicer regardless of whether they are cropped or capris. :)

Hope thats helpful... it's really about what your most comfortable in!

I'm such a duh on some of the fashions..from this thread I figured I have a pair of black cropped summer black pants with white piping around waistband, etc., that I've only worn once..in last 3 yrs.! Probably because I haven't bought the "right" shoes to wear with them. They were meant for the workplace.

At 5'1", I continue to ignore the the stores displays/racks/piles of cropped pants and capris. They don't totally flatter me a whole lot and alot of them are hipster low which I don't like. Anyway, right now I can't afford to buy pieces of clothing that I hardly would be wearing at all for next few months.

A few months ago, I bought and have worn since then, 1 pair long cotton shorts..which I do wear occasionally for cycling when it's cooler. Style-wise this was a major breakthrough event for me. :o

Crop pants make my ridiculously long legs look even more ridiculous than usual. I also get pretty self conscious about how funny my feet look sticking out down there.

I still think of crop pants as 'floods' which was the springtime name for the pants that were new for Back-to-School, before they became 'cutoffs' for summer.

Not sure I agree with these labels.

And doesn't "capri" mean "goat?"
What's up with that?

It's also an island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capri).

I just had a thought..."Goat Sun." Eew.

I'm short so know that I *shouldn't* wear bermuda shorts, capris, or cropped pants since they make me look even shorter, but I live in NC so I end up wearing them to work all summer because it's just too darn hot & humid to put on jeans or even full-length slacks most days!
