This is a SIDI shoe question folks. I'm about to replace my SIDI Raidens with a pair of Genius 5.5s. I always thought my Raidens were a 39.5 and I reviewed my Raiden order from eons ago and according to my order they were 39.5. However, the sole of the Raiden says 39. The .5 corresponds to width, no? Wouldn't that be reflected on the shoe, i.e. if my shoe was actually a size 39.5 it would show that on the sole?
I'm ordering the Genius 5.5s online and I simply want the same size that I currently have. I want to make sure that i know the size of the current shoe!
Thanks. This can't be as complicated as I'm making it. :p

Actually, it can be even more complicated. The simple part is that the .5 refers to length. They probably just specified the length a bit more precisely on the inside label than outside on the sole of the shoe. Widths are usually marked with letters (AAA-EEEEE) or names (Narrow, Medium, Wide). So much for the simple bit. Then it gets complicated. Because there is no standard length for a 39.5, or for any other size for that matter, and no standard width for an AA or a Narrow etc. Shoes fit differently from make to make and from model to model. I would never dare buy a first pair of a new (to me) model shoe on-line. I would always want to try it on first. But I guess if that's the only way to get them, and if the on-line shop has a good returns policy, then you could take the chance.

I just bought a pair of Sidi Genius's (last year's model) in a 40.5. The box for the shoes says 40.5, while the shoes itself says 40. It may be a SIDI thing. As far as I know, the .5 refers to length, not width.

Usually I'm also loath to buy online without having tried the shoe on but the place I'm buying from doesn't carry them in store and does have a terrific return policy (and price!) so I'm gonna give it a shot. I was hoping the change in just model and not manufacturer would make sizing an easier process. Maybe not.

The sole of a 40 & 40.5 are precisely the same. What makes a 40.5 a 40.5 is that the UPPER is roomier. To get the .5, they make the toebox bigger.
That's why the sole says one thing and the upper says another. The upper is correct.

I know for the men's shoe's, Sidi indicates a wide shoe by calling it Mega. I have both a Sidi Dominator 5 (Mountain bike shoe) and a Sidi 6.6 road shoe. I would go with the size that's indicated on the tongue (uppers) of the shoe.

+1 look at the tongue. I just bought some 39.5 sidi dominators and the sole does in fact say 39. If tongue doesn't have size, I would go with what your old box says.
