1972 Raleigh professional 21 inch - $650 (Lynn) (http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/bik/1168438360.html)

OMG! It's a better size than Fern (23") and the full Campy Record!! but I'd have to sell my roadie to afford it and could never keep up with DH on this one, and she's waaaay to nice to beat up as a commuter (and leave her locked up).... sigh.....

that's kind of pricey for such an old bike, even Campy Record?
but boy, if you can afford it and it is singing to you....!! go for it.

Yeah, that's a find. It's race geometry, which you may not want, but the Campy components are worth it if nothing else. You can't wear out that old Campy stuff.

They tend to go for over 1000 easily. Guess it's the rarity factor. I think Fern's more what I need, but it's super rare to find a 21, let alone 99% original.

Deb- Race geo meaning longer reach than my SuperCourse?

Race geometry meaning very short wheelbase and probably a stiff ride. I knew people who raced on Raleigh Pro's back in the 70s. Reynolds 531 double butted frame and fork. The original would have had sewups (tubular tires) but looks like that bike was converted to clinchers.

go for it - clean it up, put on some nice tubulars like campy shamal or such, and then you will see that you can very easily keep up with DH on that one!!!
:D

:( didn't get my chance- wasn't fast enough to respond, so there were a couple people before me and of course someone grabbed it. Ah well... wasn't meant to be.

So TX- do tubulars really make it that much faster? They seem like a huge pain, but there's got to be a reason people use them.
