DH put some real fenders on my Roubaix in case I need it for rainy days. This came about after enjoying the small luxury of riding in the rain sans rooster tail when I take my freight train bike out for a spin. I love my fenders, reflective side wall tires, and kickstand on the commoooter bike. I like it so much that I ride it nearly every day--some days its 5 miles, other days it's 24 miles. I have a rack on my mtb for my, um, trunk when I need it. It also serves as my other doggie exerciser bike when I'm not on the trails. ;) Guess you can tell I'm not a weight weenie. :p

Ok, so if I don't have a job to commute to, am I a commuter? ;)

Well, you go somewhere then you ride back.
That sort of makes you a commuter.
But really you're more a person who uses her bike as everyday transportation.
I don't think there's a name for that. But there should be.

Sundial, I think it counts. I work from home, so I don't have a commute. But I use my bike to go to the post office to pick up my business mail...so I consider that kindof a commute. Best I can do, anyways.

Cool!!! I think you can still be a commooter even without a job! :) You're more of a commuter than I am.

I feel the same way. I use my Jamis Coda for errands and going to appointments, meeting people for lunch. I do miss commuting, and since I am not working now, these trips are my "commute."
Just an unscientific poll. Last week, I rode the Jamis to an appointment in West Concord. It was pretty busy going through the 2 "downtown" areas on my trip. I was wearing a skort and a non-cycling wicking sleeveless top. No problems. On Monday, I rode to the gym on my road bike, going through the same area, although a longer ride. I had my Camelbak on, used as a backpack, but I was dressed like a roadie. I had 2 angry driver incidents (swearing, yelling at me for taking the lane), in an area where there are tons of cyclists and it is not unusual to see commuters.
I think people are less angry at cyclists who look like "regular" people.

Tulip, I work from home too but I have my eye on this downtown coffee shop that I'd like to commute to. I wanna take the Globe (and wear my flowerdy skort :D ) but I have to be able to do some pretty big hills on the way so I'm waiting for a larger sprocket. I do go get the mail on the bike--all 300 ft of driveway, lol.

Zen, you'll have to create a new term for us. ;)
