Just for giggles, I was looking at the participant list for Ironman Arizona (which is sold out).
All sorts of people, but what got me were the occupations. Some examples:

Window Washer
Flux Capacitor Repairman
Trophy Husband
Zig Zag Trick Swimmer
American Idol Finalist
Fun Stomper
Dragon Slayer
Bean Counter
Cookie Eater
Gadfly
I Corrupt the Future
Tidal Pool Explorer (from AZ)
Pizza Professional
Chief Bottle Washer
....and more! Way too funny!
I guess you need a sense of humor to do Ironman, eh?

That's my goal for SOMEDAY, but tomorrow I'll do an online "tri" challenge with a buddy. 18 mile bike, 3.1 mile run and 500m swim and my first "tri". I work weekends, so real tris are kind of out of the question.
Granted, I'll do the bike then drive to the gym to do the other two "events", but it will be almost like the real thing. We'll see how it goes! Been trying to run more the past couple months and I'm up to 3.1 miles at a stretch with nary a walk. Although my run is more like a sick looking amble.

Hey, easy on those of us who are unemployed (and not by choice) :( I guess I am a little overly sensitive to this.

training for an ironman is its own employement, unpaid, but definitly employed

They spend an awful lot of time talking to themselves. That Zig Zag Trick Swimmer in particular. I wonder how many extra miles s/he puts in per race?

The Karapoti Classic had its participants list w occupations & I saw similar names.

I agree that training for an IM is a full time job!!! Add a family into it & that would be interesting time management,

I'm going to try now & list the occupations from the IMAZ list.

Window Washer-exactly that
Flux Capacitor Repairman-car repair person that likes Back to the Future
Trophy Husband-:D
Zig Zag Trick Swimmer-
American Idol Finalist-singer or someone who attempts to sing
Fun Stomper-police officer?
Dragon Slayer-Games store person
Bean Counter-isn't this one obvious?
Cookie Eater-baker
Gadfly
I Corrupt the Future-banker
Tidal Pool Explorer (from AZ)-diver?
Pizza Professional
Chief Bottle Washer-mom with small children

My husband just made up business cards for himself and listed his occupation as "gentleman adventurer." I think that would be a good occupational listing for someone participating in an Ironman!

I told DH that the "gentleman" part of it was a stretch.

I think that's a cute title! I must try to think of something similar for myself. I usually introduce myself as a "professional volunteer" when I'm in that situation.

HEY!! I'm the zig zag trick swimmer!! ha ha
No joke. It's hard to swim in a straight line for 2.4 miles. Esp. when you are as slow as me...:p

My husband just made up business cards for himself and listed his occupation as "gentleman adventurer." My husband calls himself a Professional Whiner (aka attorney).
