Does anyone own a ruby: what do you think of this brand?

It's one of the few saddles that is available in a wide size that DOESN'T have a metric crap-ton of padding, which I think is great. I found it too flexible for my liking, but a lot of people like that.

Is this thread about the saddle or the bike?

the bike, I'm sorry I didn't know there was a saddle. I had a longer post but my computer ate it so i shortened it. I guess I didn't clarify it properly. I looked at the ruby elite compact yesterday and wondered about it. thanks

I have one (the Pro 2007) and love it. It handles well along with riding great over bumps in the roads.

My husband rides the Roubaix and my son the Tarmac. We find Specialized bikes fit us well and offer a well built bike & components for the money.

Another Ruby gal here. I have the Expert and it really is a great ride. DH has the Tarmac and loves it as well. I did upgrade the front chainrings and crankset to Ultegra. The year that I bought came with FSA 50, 39, 30 and I wanted a 52, 39, 30. Now it looks like they come with the the Ultegra SL 52, 39, 30.

I have an '08 Ruby Pro and absolutely love it. It's lightweight, easy to control, and lots of fun to ride. The D4W setup works great for me (5'2", long legs, short torso -- 48cm frame), but make sure you test one first to see if it's right for you.

Ruby Pro 2006. First time I rode it, I notice it felt like I was being pulled forward. Neat!

Like the others who've responded, I love my Ruby! Mine is a 2006 Ruby Comp. It's my first road bike, and when I bought it I didn't really know anything about bikes (and hadn't yet discovered this forum). I'm embarassed to say, the main factor that influenced my purchase at the time was frame color and vanity. All the other women's bikes I was seeing had some kind of pastel color scheme...with my coloring I look *horrible* in pastels and I didn't want to ride a color I wouldn't wear. :p

Thankfully, the bike fits me well and it's a smooth dream to ride. If I'd have known how much I was going to enjoy it, I'd probably have gotten a higher-end model for the better components. But, I ended up upgrading the wheelset which has really improved the ride quality, and the 105 components are working well so I'm not in too big a rush to replace them. Now if I could just find a comfy saddle...

Anyway, whether or not you'd enjoy a Ruby will depend on whether the bike geometry fits you...but if it does, it's a pretty nice option!

I know three people that have Rubies and love them. But, as others said, research your options and ride several. The Ruby is a popular bike for women, but that doesn't mean there isn't something better for "you".

I have a 2007 Ruby Expert Triple. I love this bike! It came with the FSA chainrings/crankset and the rest of the components are Ultegra. There were some shifting problems for the first few months which my LBS attributed to slight incompatibility between FSA-Shimano, and to shifting of triples in general but they were able to make adjustments until it was right. I changed the saddle from the Jett that came on the bike to a Dolce which I find very comfortable. The only other thing I plan to change is the white bar tape which is impossible to keep clean but I'll stay with the BarPhat because its really comfortable.

We really like the Specialized brand. I also have a Globe (hybrid) and my dh has a 2009 Roubaix Pro, and a RockHopper Comp that is several years old.

And one more Ruby rider...Ruby Expert (2008....I think! Time flies). I love it! The ONLY thing I notice is that it moves a bit if I am flying downhill, but I think anything as light as it is would do so. I love Specialized stuff, I look like a walking Specialized ad...I have shoes, helmet, bike, mountain bike, gloves...I didn't plan it that way, it just worked out! Even my shades are specialized! They should pay me!

I also have a 2007 Ruby expert with a compact double. My husband rides a 2006 Roubaix which he loves. We also have 2 older Rockhoppers. Specialized makes great stuff. I have their shoes, gloves. My DH has their shoes, gloves, socks, bib shorts, which we both love.

I love everything about my Ruby Comp. I might change to a triple sometime because I ride mountain roads at the cabin in the summer, but other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

Well, I went and rode the Ruby Elite compact double today and decided to get it. I couldn't afford to get it all at once so I put it on lay away. I decided I just didn't like the Sora shifters and that I would sell it rather than upgrade. I'm not a mechanic. I took a class on tuning up my bike last month but I seem to have forgotten it all. Thank you all for your input it did influence my decision.:)
