An 83-year-old woman's 66-year-old bicycle was stolen in Lewiston, Maine recently.

According to a recent Associated Press report, Lewiston resident Ruth Slovenski's 1943 blue Huffy bicycle -- a gift she received as a teenager -- was stolen from outside the Maison Marcotte nursing home she was visiting last Saturday afternoon.

Miss Slovenski told police she left her bicycle unlocked near a mailbox between 2:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The blue bicycle had mudguards and a front metal basket.

A nursing home security video shows a man wearing a hat and dark clothing riding off on the bike.

As yet, there is no word from the Lewiston police about the recovery of Miss Slovenski's treasured bicycle.

Who did that to this old lady?

Wish I can still ride at this age.;) (but I probably can't keep the bike for so long. :p )

It was pimp-my-bike...it'll show up in a week neon pink with streamers, 19" wheels and a 42" tv in the back.

All kidding aside...sad to see this :( I know even after a few years I'm emotionally attached to my bikes...I couldn't even imagine if I had it that long.

I think it's been found and returned to her, although I can't track that part of the story down at the moment.

LEWISTON, Maine -- A happy ending for a Lewiston woman whose treasured bicycle was stolen last weekend.

The Lewiston Police Department said it has recovered the 1943 blue Huffy bike that belongs to 83-year-old Ruth Slovenski.

Ruth Slovenski, 83, was reunited with her 66 year old bike Friday. Someone had stolen it last weekend.

Slovenski’s bike was stolen on Saturday when she left it outside Maison Marcotte on Campus Avenue.

The bike was recovered at the Hannaford’s Supermarket on Sabattus street Friday morning.
A person told the police that he received the bike two days ago from a man, described as being in his 30s. The person told police that he had seen the news stories about the bike and wanted to return it to Slovenski.

Slovenski received the bike as a gift from her parents in 1943.

"Why should I get another bike. I love this one," said Slovenski.

Thanks, reddDesign. It's good to hear that the bike is found. :)

So, the picture in Bikeradar is not the real bike? At first, I was thinking who wanted to take a bike at this condition.

I think there are a few of us who wouldn't mind

that would be pretty cool to have the same bike when I was that old, or to be that old.

Good for her.
Good for Lewiston, Maine!
Now...I'm curious as to why (or how) this guy "received" the bike from the alleged thief.
