I'm still beating my head against the wall to find a short (80mm or less) reach bar in a reasonably narrow size (37-40cm) in silver for Fern (my '72 Raleigh Super Course). I'd even consider buying a 3rd stem if I could find a 26mm clamp version! Pre-2006 Nitto 105, Ritchey Biomax, old school no-name?? Please dig through those closets, ladies!

While you're digging, if you find an old school Pletscher rack you don't need, I like one of those, but it's not needed.

Thanks!

I can't find those Ritchey ones in silver either! They used to be on ebay, but no more. The Bontrager Fit bars come in silver, so you could get any Trek dealer to order them, and they are suppose to be the shallowest and shortest, but they require a 31.6 stem. I'll keep looking.

I know! And I even went to Harris and got a set of Nitto 105s, but once I got home realized they were maybe 5mm better than current vintage set- apparently Nitto changed them from 65mm to 105mm in 2006, but I can't find any of those either. hmmph...

Try the following sources:

www.rivbike.com - Rivendell bikes for the Pletscher rack.

Yellow Jersey Bikes in Madison, Wisconsin for the bars. Their website is chaotic to say the least. Just call and ask for Andy Muzi. I had a 1981 Trek rehabbed their in Feb. and Andy found some 34 cm bars for me. He has all sorts of vintage stuff and will find what you need.

Hope this helps.

yeah, I saw them on Riv- I like to try to find used vintage ones if I can, but their price is really good.

Thanks for the heads up on YellowJersey, I'll have to give them a call!

I have some Sakae bars I pulled off of a early-80's bike I picked up a little while back. I don't know exact measurements, but my haphazard measurements put them at about a 90-95mm reach, 130-135mm drop, and 37-39cm wide.

If you think you can make them work, you are welcome to them. (They're in decent, but not perfect, shape. They're just way too narrow for me to use on anything.)

I have an 80mm 1" quill stem with a 26.0 clamp. i would be willing to part with it for a few squids.
