I thought I'd start a thread where we could share some inspirational quotes with each other. They can be from anywhere - even something from a post from a fellow TE'er.

Whatever you have forgotten, you can remember. Whatever you have buried you can unearth. If you are willing to look deep into your own nature, if you are willing to peel away the layers of not-self you have adopted in making your way through the tribulations of life, you will find that your true self is not as far removed as you think. -- Meredith Jordan

The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches, but to reveal to him his own. --Benjamin Disraeli

From Aggie Ama's Signature: A wise Pansy once told me "Can't Never Could!"

"If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever." The Dalai Lama

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.

Awww that made me tear up a little. The Pansy is my mom. But she got that saying from her Grandma Ellen, also named Pansy. :)

I have a quotes on my monitor:

"You don't have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great."- Les Brown

Fire Bowl Fortune Cookie: "A man can fail many time, but he isn't a failure until he gives up."

"Well aren't you the most adorable black hole of need."-Maxine :p

What do you mean, I can remember what has been forgotten?

I've looked awfully deeply, and I really can't remember where I put my keys. Going to check the garage tonight, um, if I can remember to.

"The best defense is not to be worth fighting."

"Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind." (Einstein)

"Just do it." (That one *I* thought of before Nike to get that stupid Master's paper done instead of sharpening my pencil one more time... I'm sure a mess of moms have, too...)

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em... but if they won't let you join 'em.. f* 'em" (my college friend, on getting along with the girls in the dorm).

"Round and round, not up and down." (for pedaling up hills, from whatever training video that was)

I have one I like from John Lennon and Yoko. It's neither inspirational nor safe for public viewing. But it is thought provoking.
If you must know you can see it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman_Is_the_Nigger_of_the_World)

"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have one single bit of talent left and coulds say I used everything you gave me" - Erma Bombeck

I have tremendous respect for Erma Bombeck. Not only was she funny without being crude or demeaning, but she refused to use her celebrity to push herself higher on the kidney transplant list. She could have gotten a kidney before someone else, and lived longer, but she wouldn't do it. You have to admire that kind of integrity.

Another favorite:
"Tis a wild, weird clime, that lieth sublime, out of space and out of time" - Poe

Robert Frost:

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

"In their fairytale city, they poison the mind
With rock 'n' roll for entertainment
So, the nation won't find out about
Corruption, control, the distribution of wealth
It's a plan based on distraction, well see for yourself "
- Conflict

Well, when I first started training for the Death Ride, I came across the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt

"You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

... and I thought, "that's it!!!".

The Death Ride was way outside of my comfort zone, and up until this year I thought it was something I would never even attempt to do.

(oh gawd here I go again ... then I had my crash which will prevent me from riding it this year, but maybe next year ...)

My favourite quote of all time is from Anaïs Nin:

"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage."

I like the balance between encouragement and acceptance.

A few favorites. Origins generally unknown.

-Fortune favors boldness

-A mediocre plan executed in a timely manner is better than a perfect plan that comes too late (Patton, I think)

-In peace there ’s nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood. (Shakespeare, Henry V)

"Larry, the cows are burning!"

This was a pull quote in my local newspaper, totally out of context of anything I could see. I cut it out and it hung in my window for 3 years before it faded so much I could barely read it. It doesn't take much to amuse me.
