Ooo..mmmm..I just cooked some & oooo..Yummy!
I found this in the Aust Healthy Food Guide
The recipe calls for:
2 firm pears
2 tblspns soft brown sugar
4 tblspns beadcrumbs
zest of 1 orange
a few smidgens of ground cinnamon
3 tblspns of healthy table spread
1/2 cup raisins
Oven 200C
Cut pears lengthwise
place in ovenproof dish & cover with the sugar, breadcrumbs, zest, cinnamon, spread & raisins
add 5 tblspns boiling water
bake 25-30min
total fat 5g
carbs 30g

mmmmmm
oo, sounds great! But what's "healthy table spread"? Sounds like a checked tablecloth to me :confused: :D

Like wise ??? what is table spread? soft butter perhaps. looking at the recipe I would have to say its butter.
I know brits, Aussies, Kiwi's call bell pepper capsicum but table spread?? that's new to me.

It's sort of like margarine/butter but healthier. The one I used is called a "dairy blend" of butter & canola oil made by Capel. I bought it because it seemed like the healthiest one. I don't use it very often as i don't put spread on my sandwiches.
What would you guys call this?

Sounds a little like Smart Balance or "I Can't Believe Its Not Butter"...yes, Amercians have stupid names for this, too. :p Basically, no trans fat butter substitute... there are quite a few on the market now.
Thanks for the recipe - it sounds good. I would think that with the moisture in pears, you could probably skip the spread part of it, too. I'm storing this one away for the fall when I'm begging for ways to use up our pears! :)

You need the butter for the sauce. The brown sugar, butter and the juice from the pear creates the sauce.
I make something very similar in cast iron skillet over a stove. No raisin and no breadcrumb. And instead of water, I use brandy instead. Better if you can get Eau de vie of pear. Serve with side of vanilla ice cream. yummo. Eau de vie is pricey but I'm not using much so its still okay.
