View Full Version : Is this proof of cycling taking over my life?

In the past week, or even less really, two of my bras have died. One underwire broke, the other spent the entire day poking me on BOTH sides. Now other than pain and discomfort this sucks because I really need new sports bras. Both I've had for ages, only like the fit of one, and I need more than one to get through the week.

So I was thinking of getting some nice Moving Comfort bras. Would it be weird if I uh, just got those? They have some very normal bra like ones. It's not like I'm prowling for guys so who cares about uni-boob?

I'm looking at a Phoebe and a Fiona right now. Something pull over, something that will lift and separate, etc.

Am I being a complete and total dork? I don't want to become that girl at the grocery store in sweats, 4 day unwashed hair in a pony tail and a promotional baseball cap (when I wear PJs to the grocery store they're at least cute) but real life is really cutting into my bike money.

A coworker of mine wears nothing but sports bras but she could probably get away with nada. So I'm not sure that's a cute look for busty girls.

I don't own a 'real' bra. They are instruments of torture to me.

I have a camisole with cups if the need arises, which it rarely does.

I'm not exactly sure what the question is?

true, she asked more questions after that.

I'm not qualified to answer as I never wear my PJs to the grocery store.

LOL, me neither. Only if my home was burning down, I'll run over to the store like this. On adult women, PJs in grocery stores looks...dumb. I know, I'm a slumber party pooper. :p

I tend to wear older bras since I'm sweating them up. I don't need sports bras, something less all fabric underwear-wise, since am smaller anyway. But definitely never underwired bras while on bike.

Seriously you write for a living? :D:cool::rolleyes:

I'm going to assume this isn't sarcasm. :p This is one of my prouder moments describing Haro's Original Freestyler BMX bike:

For some bike companies, releasing a bike like the Original Freestyler would be like a one hit wonder putting out a greatest hits album. Fortunately, Haro has 30 years of BMX history behind them and the Original Freestyle is where it all began. After some updates to their famed freestyle geometry Haro splashed the Freestyler with gleaming chrome, added classic Skyway mag wheels, a rugged 3-piece chromoly crankset, as well as a Tektro U-brake. This old school classic is ready for any new school tricks you have up your sleeve.

And a Haro cruiser:

Haro's Railer XS Women's is not your average cruiser. Drawing inspiration from Haro's hard-hitting BMX bikes and the fashion pages, the Railer XS certainly won't get lost in the crowd. The lightweight aluminum frame, sporting BMX inspired handlebars, offers a smooth, quick ride. Haro even added 3-speed internal gearing for a little help with the hills. When you ride a Railer XS you can be assured any "Nice bike!" comments are directed at you!

I haven't rocked this look in a long time, but I used to live in a smaaaall town and nobody gave a rat's rear end. I never did the whole PJ look, it was usually just super comfy PJ pants and a cute tank top that I would normally wear in public and of course proper undergarments. And there were certain hours I found this acceptable. Like say 5AM runs for donuts and coffee to coerce my hungover friends to get up for a trail ride and late night munchy runs. Times when no one would see me, basically. And most people think I look all of 16 so I guess I used that to get away with it.

Hey understood. Just keep it a pleasant memory of youth forever. Otherwise the older you get, you'll look like woman with a bit of dementia or at least homeless in the grocery store with PJs on. :)

Suuuuh-weeeet! Then maybe people will feel sorry for me and buy me food! I'm still at that "precious" age where free food rocks my socks! Unfortunately I think I need a nasty bathrobe that reeks of cat urine to get free food. Boo.

Hi Smurf,

No you are not being a total dork for owning just sport bras. It just says yo are really into sports. That is far from being a dork. You are just being pragmatic that is all.

I bought a GRRREAT sports bra recently and would happily buy 5 more of the same and wear them all the time if not for the fact that i also got some amazingly comfortable supportive real bras from the same shop. As a 32/34 DD/E i need the support god love me, but the sporty i got is soooo good it's unreal. Nice look too.

It's a Max Sports Shock Absorber and i love it.

heheh - can't really help you on the bra question, but had to giggle at the grocery store picture. Once I get home from work (where I wear casual but clean and neat clothes that fit) I shower and jump into increasingly grubby sweat pants, thick wool socks, t-shirt and a fleece jacket or maybe a loose wool sweater with paint spots on it. So my neighbours are used to seeing me at the grocery store in either sweaty full bike commuter gear, helmet, blinky and all, or the above ballerina slash homeless woman shuffling around in untied shoes look. No wonder they look kind of flabbergasted when I turn up at school occasions wearing make-up and a skirt :p

I totally get what you're saying. I bought 2 bras this week, and it was VERY expensive. I couldn't help thinking I'd rather be buying bike stuff, but really, I needed the bras. I probably could get away with sports bras all the time, but I don't. I like a little lace.

While, I don't *need* to wear a bra, I think it looks better when I do. I don't like wearing sports bras all day long; they tend to feel too tight. When I bought the ones for small busted women from Title 9, they didn't give any support and you could still see everything through my jerseys/tops. So now I buy more supportive ones.
I started spending good money on regular bras about 5 years ago. What a difference. Nothing like a little fiberfill/foam to make me look better in my clothes. Hey, it's cheaper than implants...

The newest hip terms are either "rubbed", "rolled", or "run" as opposed to "rocked", according to BikeSnob who "runs" his finger on the pulse of bike fashion in NYC. Good to know if you are writing bike promos aimed at hipsters. :p
Hey I live in a REEEEEAAAAALLLYYYY small town, sort of like Mayberry but you can actually get a latte there.
There are some teenagers who come into town to be 'seen' after school in their flannel pj bottoms, and everyone chuckles at them, but they probably aren't aware of that fact since we only chuckle after they've safely passed by (we do try to be polite in our little town). :D
One woman in town in her 30's does this too, coming into the town cafe on weekend mornings 'rubbing' pajama bottoms, and we all openly laugh at her since she is not a teenybopper and is presumably old enough to 'take it' as well as dish it out. She does 'roll' a bra, but I'm not sure whether it's a sports bra or not.

I just spent $200 on new sport bras, socks and tank tops (essentially gym clothes) and flinched at spending $10 on a skirt for work. I also choose my attire for work based on how well it will cover my sport bra and shorts, generally worn all day under work attire.
I have been know to traverse around in PJs, but not in a cool way, just the "I don't care. I just got in from a long ride and am comfortable and need a bottle of wine and some popchips" kind of way.

Smurf:

In my entire life I have never given a moment's thought to what type of bra another woman wears.

I have wondered at times about how cross-dressing guys find bras that are even remotely comfortable.

As I was properly fitted by a pro this week, I now know some people do notice how bras fit! This lady was telling me she has to restrain herself from approaching strange women in public places to adjust their bras! Too funny.

I hate flannel pjs in public. I kinda hate them in private, too.

Actually, I never knew there was such a thing as a "bra fitter" until I read it here on TE a couple of years ago! :o
For me I guess it's like- put 'em in there and if they don't fit right, try another one!

I was professionally fitted a month or two ago and i've never looked back. I was in totally the wrong size and can't believe now that clothes which i was ready to throw out now fit me again simply because i'm in the right bra! who knew they made that much difference?

To answer what I think was the original question, I wear the moving comfort Fiona for running, but it's certainly overkill (bounce-wise) for bicycling and isn't comfortable enough to wear all day long. And it definitely provides a uniboob.

I lost some weight and now I'm smaller there which makes it seem like I sag more. I hate that. I like that I lost 11 pounds(curves diet) and I don't feel like I'm going to bonk on a bike like I did before when I was dieting. I always wear a sports bra because I hate to take off my clothes! In Michigan in the winter it's too cold in the winter to remove clothes, and too hot and sticky in the summer to put them back on again. And there is only winter and summer here!
If someone has found a wireless bra that can be worn all the time and restricts bounce please let me know!

Good to know, maybe it can be the horse bra. That will deprive male drivers by my barn of a lot of joy it would seem from their staring, but I'd like to focus on the task at hand thanks!

I had a really great one from Nike that had nice wide straps, and these weird like plastic swirls on the fabric that actually provided additional support. It's just a skosh small these days and quite warm. Looking at their website it appears they actually have bras for girls with big boobs again. Judging from the Nike store by my house for a long while they went through a skinny strap, no support phase.

*sigh* I've always had bra fits done but one time it made me laugh. My girlfriend and I were killing time before a movie and stopped by Victoria's Secret. She confessed, at the age of 21 she was wearing the same bra since middle school. I couldn't even find a size on the grey, dingy tag. So they "fit" my flat chested friend as a 34B and I laughed my butt off. She couldn't fill those to save her life. Then they told me I was a 36D and gave me these awful bras that covered my entire rib cage.

We later went to the Hanes/Bali outlet and got fitted there. Sure enough we found my friend some nice 34 "almost A" bras for my friend, and my fitter said I was just between a B and a C and I'd probably do better with some of the Bs they had that ran a little bigger especially since my dude ranching summer workouts were fast approaching.

I do have one VS bra that fits beautifully, a cup size bigger than what I wear in any of my other bras. It's great because it has coverage on the sides but it has so much padding and fluff that my rather generous girls look huge. I think VS has a conspiracy about their bras running small so girls that don't have much feel like they've really got something in their bras and buy them faithfully.

I have another really, really, really busty friend that used to have custom bras made. I wish I could afford that really. She says if you're squeamish about standing around topless and having your chest touched by a stranger it's not for you, but the fit is awesome. After the initial fit session the bras become exponentially cheaper too.

I really feel for busty women.

I hate bras. For whatever reason, it's not socially acceptable to go about without one, even if your summer boobs are all of a 34A. I go without whenever I can, because I swear they are irritating a spot in my back (the same spot that gets tired of maneuvering a mouse around).

Getting a fitting really is a good idea - they can change a bra from being a torture device that leaves marks in your skin to being something you don't mind wearing when you have to.

My newest vanity effort in life to avoid the grubby grocery store look, is to try and get totally cute sweats, now of course, they are still sweats, I even got some ultra cute sweats to go to work in. My sports bras all do uniboob and they all chafe when I sweat...given up on that. My closet is mostly sportswear now and very little "normal" wear, but I LOVE IT. I especially have a fetish for the pants that make the swish swish sound:D

Not for running, but for biking I wear only 'Secret Embrace' Victoria Secrets bras. I buy them always on their annual sale, weird colors but who cares. For $20 a piece I did not find better bra for biking. Because they are push ups, they actually hold my breasts quite still. No bouncing. The straps can be crossed in the back, they wick, lift, separate and I feel sexy in any bike jersey.
