First two-hour ride this weekend, and I already have a tan line from my shorts! I'm not doing this again this year. I usually wear cargo shorts in the summer, but my bike shorts seem to hit right below them. SO, what are your favorite short-inseam shorts?

I bought PI Sugar shorts on clearance last fall, but my sister made off with them before I could try them on.

Eyeing a jersey over at Terry and they've got free shipping.

I have a few pairs of the 'Short Cut' short by PI that has the same chamois (and I think fabric) as their Ultrasensor but in a shorter inseam. It has a 6" inseam instead of the 8" version. I have short legs, so it is more comfortable for me. The problem last summer was that they were about a half inch longer than most of my regular shorts, so I always had a visible tan line anyway! If you have normal length legs, they'll probably work great on you.

I don't think TE carries them (anymore?), but I found a link for them at backcountry.com:

The photo is really bad - they aren't deformed looking in real life!

Shebeest SSS shorts are on the short (er) side. And I adore them.

I don't love my PI sugars. They're really just a bit too short for riding out in the country with the guys and the padding is too thick. I'm on a similar quest this year, forgot to wear sunscreen on Saturday and already have brown knees!

My favorite warm weather short-shorts are Sugoi Turbo Tri Short. Being a tri short, they are really lightweight and cool. There's a minimal chamois, which I really like. They have a 6" inseam. Best of all, they are pretty inexpensive. I think I got mine for under $50.

I have a pair of descente tri-shorts that are just amazing. they're thin and cool, some hi-tech fabric with minimal padding, good for short rides to about 2 to 3 hrs. I have shebeest 'tri' ones too, and they're alright, but I do prefer the descente. they were more expensive though, about 62 before tax? the shebeest was like.. 35..

Yep, my fave! I have short legs to need the "shorter shorts" and w/ the she-elastic chamois I really don't even need/use chamios cream--even for long rides.

Short legs = tan lines visable. Nothing worse than being in a swim suit and the fast part of the legs are also the whitest! Oh, another summer in a bikers tan!

short shorts make the flab on the upper inside of my thighs hang out.

I love my tan lines and (*blush*) am quite proud showing them off at the pool....

The Ibex Calais wool shorts are a great length, just slightly longer than the short shorts, but not long by any means. Though, my absolute favorite short short is the Sugoi Evolution Shorty from a few years back. :)

I'm absolutely no help here because I like my shorts to all have an 8" inseam so that I can get a very defined thigh line :D

No help either, I just shrug when my non-cycling friends make fun of me. I just can't be bothered to care. :p

I get so many tan lines I look like a patchwork quilt...... so I've given up trying to avoid them. (shorts, shorts plus knee warmers, long socks, short socks, missed a little sunscreen etc.) I haven't been without tights since probably September and I still have a defined thigh tan line....

As far as short inseam shorts go - I had a pair of PI's long ago and I found the bottom of the leg would rub the nose of my saddle right where my skin started and it was soooooooo annoying, so even though I have relatively short legs I prefer a longer short - longer than a 5 or 6 inch inseam at least.

I have short legs too but I think longer shorts look better on them.
I guess I'm kind of - no wait, I KNOW I am very weird about my legs. About how they feel. They get cold. Even in summertime. I wear loose cargo style pants all summer long.

oh - and I love capris.

Short shorts look terrible on me, and I don't really care about tan lines anyway.

Castelli Cocoon Due--shorter inseam and sooooo comfy. Easy on the old-lady gut, too.

Am I the only mutant in the world that LOOOOVES long shorts? I don't need shorts that cut off, and therefore pinch a bit, in the sqooshy part of my thighs. I love my men's shorts from my team kit, they come almost to my knees.

Hey, if you wear a size large I have a pair of shorts I bought at Performance solely because they had the same chamois as my Craft shorts. I was young and dumb. They're way too short for my liking. I can't get them to play nice with leg warmers and in Colorado all my shorts must comply with warmers. If you want um PM me. The more cycling wear I don't use I get rid of, the more I can buy!!!

Beware! I just got a pair of these and the chamois and material and waistband are AWESOME but the elastic is WAY too tight. They are super cute short SHORT shorts, but not comfortable. Just be careful. Maybe order a size up...

I'm the exact opposite! My legs get HOT, so I can't stand long shorts...even though they'd probably be more flattering consider the state of my legs these days. Even my tights are light weight (except my Amphibs with tend to make me sweat a lot). And if the inseam on my shorts is even a half inch longer than 8", they annoy me behind the knee. Yes, my thighs are THAT short. :(

I never noticed that the SSS short was only 6". I'm definitely going to give that one a shot this summmer! Thanks to those who mentioned it!

I love longer shorts too. I hate having tight elastic cut right across the center of the quads. It just hurts. Not to mention the potential bulge problems. I also prefer the fit of men's shorts overall, so while they are still a good bit away from my knees, they are not short.

My tan lines on my legs from last year never went away, so there's no point in changing it up now. haha

Not for me, but then again, I lived in the Phoenix area for about 9 years so my heat tolerance level may be on the high side.

Just found out that CW-X is discontinuing this product, due to not being able to get the fabric from the manufacturer anymore. So, I'm going to stock up while I can! I'm a real sun-phobe, so I need my protection!

I am always on a search for shorter inseam shorts. Sugoi evolution shorty are my favorites. A close second are a pair of Descente aero-x short inseam. This winter I purchased a pair of Trashy Cat shorts they seem nice but I haven't tried them on any longer rides yet. I think Bicycling Magazine gave the Trashy Cats a good review as well.

Pearl Izumi make a good short pair that I got off www.probikekit.com
They are really good except they don't have leg grippers on them but you can easily fix that by buying some swimwear elastic and put round the bottom of them so they don't ride up.
