As you know swimming is the weakest portion of my tris. Last year I did okay, but with a HIM in June I knew this season would require a lot more work.

I did myself the favor of looking up the swim times from previous years at this race to give myself a goal to work towards & today I hit that!!! :D

Another triathlete was in the lane next to me and was a great aid in pacing myself. He was done after 1/2mile, but I continued the full 1.2 and while it may seem slow to the majority of you I'm thrilled that I brought my time down to 42minutes.

This still puts me near the lower end of the totem pole, but it wont make me last. I've still got a few months to make improvements too. Which is good news!

That is awesome. This is how I feel when I have a good run....not my strength!

Congratulations
And don't be so hard on yourself! that is a perfectly respectable time for a steady 1.2 miles!

Wow Urlea! Great job. I think that is a great time. And you are so early in the season still! Good work.

I think the swim TIMES are less important than finishing the swim with good energy. If that means swimming slower and more relaxed breathing, not trying to keep up, or push ahead, it is often worth it. The advantage the good swimmers have isn't the minutes they get ahead, those get reduced in the bike and run easily, it is the finishing not too tired and starting the bike well.

I totally agree & that's something I'm working on. Unfortunately the pool is closed the remainder of this week for cleaning. Not sure if I will be able to find another pool to swim in until it opens again.*shrug*

Anywho, thanks for the encouragement ladies!

I think it is a great time too! That's faster than I am swimming in the pool right now, and my HIM in is 2.5 weeks! You'll be great by june!!
