I started to get back into mountain biking in the last year and decided I needed a real mountain bike. I've been borrowing bikes from friends and test riding. I finally found the frameset I really wanted and I'm going for it.
It will be shipped to my friend who will finish building it up for me with a top of the line build kit. I'm going to have a kick azz bike. :D:D:D
Here it is.

A new bike day, is a happy day :). I normally say "hope you have many happy and safe miles together". But, we are talking about mtb here... so minor self inflicted pain is optional lol;).

It's the S-works Safire by Specialized. Carbon WSD with an amazing shock system.
Here are the wheels that where handbuilt for her.

Here are the specs.
frame Specialized SWorks Safire
fork Specialized FutureShock

front der Shimano XTR
rear der SRAM X-0
shifters SRAM X-0
brakes Avid Juicy Ultimate
crankset Truvative Noir XC carbon
cassette SRAM PG990 11-32
chain SRAM PC991
hubs DTSwiss 340
rims Mavic XC717 Disc

handlebar Ritchey WCS Carbon Lo rise
stem Thomson X-2
seatpost Thomson Elite
saddle WTB Diva

I'm embarassed to say I'm not sure about the tires but I believe they have tubes. It doesn't say tubeless anywhere and when my friend and I went over all the details, I was a little overwhelmed. I don't remember any mention of tubeless though.
Some of the specs have already changed a bit depending on parts availability. But that's it in a nutshell.
The frame hasn't arrived at my friend's shop yet so the rest of the build is on hold for the moment. I am soooooooooo excited.

I am soooooooooo jealous. That will be one smokin' hot bike. I'm lusting after one of its less expensive cousins (http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2009/bikes/9393-32_SJ_FSR_elite_white_d.jpg) at the moment, but, alas, I'm many dollars short of that dream.

My frame got shipped to my friend's shop today. It should be there by the end of the week. My friend says he's waiting for one more box of parts and he'll have everything to finish the build!!! I could have a new bike very soon.:D:D:eek::D

My other half got his new bike last night too - He's just taken delivery of a Spesh Pitch FSR...it's pretty...very pretty.
Hope you get yours soon Wahine, i'd be Jonesing for it by now!

My friend that is doing the build got the frame today but the headset was missing and the cable guides for the down tube. He's been on the horn trying to get it straightened out. Meanwhile he's taken the build as far along as he can...

Very cool. I wish I was a good and brave enough mountain biker to warrant a bike like that. Have fun!

It's not about being good or brave. I'm totally worried about "having to live up to the bike" now.
The build is on hold. Turns out the people that shipped it to my friend some how missed shipping the headset and downtube cable guides. They are trying to *find* them. Ugh. This frame is such that you need the specialized parts, nothing else will fit. I might be in for a bit of a wait.:(

Hoooo....Don't I know that!
My mountainbike is 10 times a better bike than I am a rider.
Nice ride. Do you plan to do mostly xc trail riding or DH with that?
Good luck finishing the build.

I have the Specialized Era...very similar, it has the brain...and I am totally convinced it is muttering under its breath the whole time I am riding it...something along the lines of "if she would only sit down and shut up I could do my job." Mine is school bus orange with red trim. I think you are going to LOVE your bike...it is beautiful!

If that is something that is really worrying you, take a clinic once you have your bike. It may save you a lot of learning curve. If you are down in Oregon, check out the Dirt Series, I am pretty sure they do Hood River every year.

ooohhhh...nice....
Waiting is horrible. When I ordered my road bike it came in with the frame damaged in shipping... the next one came.... damaged... third one was okay. My LBS owner was livid. Patience is a beautiful thing to possess.

I have the Era too - the pink annodised one. Every time somebody tells me what a nice bike it is I wish I'd been able to buy the legs that matched it, because mine sure don't!:p
Don't worry about measuring up to the bike. Just ride it like you stole it and have a great time on it!:)

Still waiting... The headset came but the downtube cable guides they sent were the wrong ones. And, there is an issue with the cabling on the hydraulic brakes that my friend can't address because he doesn't have the right tools - he builds high end road bikes for a living so he doesn't carry all the tools for working with disc brakes. So when I get the bike I'll have to take it to my local wrench to work on the brake cabling.
Oh well. I should have her in my hands this weekend - my friend is bringing her to me when he comes up for a local road race we have here. She'll need a little more tweaking but we're sooooooooo close.

Wahine, that is a B E A U T I F U L bike. I can't wait for it to get built! You are going to have such a great time with this bike and it will help restore and heal you. :)
Wahine - are those tubeless? I haven't tried that yet, but am thinking about it...
SheFly, I have Kenda tubeless tires and I won't go back! I don't have to air it up as often and I don't get slow leaks from the teenie thorns that puncture the tires. Go with Stan's.

It's heeeeeeeeeeeeere!!!!:D:D:D
There are still a couple of minor issues to straighten out, cables to fix, suspension to adjust... but my bike was delivered to me by my friend at about 10:30 last night. So, no ride yet.
But she is spectacular!!!!:D:D:D

Alright. At long last she arrived. Then I had to put her aside until I could get some brake cable adjustment and until I finished my road bike racing this weekend. I had to work all day yesterday but today I snuck out for a ride at lunch.
All I have to say is.... *oh my* [fans herself to keep from fainting].
This bike is amazing. It's swoopy, bouncy and responsive. I went over bridges that sometimes freak me out and didn't even flinch. It climbs wonderfully. I haven't had a chance to try any rock gardens yet or bigger drops. I may have to narrow the handle bars a bit and the front suspension needs some adjusting. But I think I'm in love....:D:D:D:D:D

Yup, the truck break in was a PITA. We parked in a very non-travelled area, and rode for 4.5 hours. We saw about 5 cars that entire time. So we were really surprised when we came back to the truck and found the break in. They would not have gotten anything if my cycling buddy had remembered his camelback... that's where my camera was and we had intended to take it with us but forgot.:(:( Oh well. At least we had our wallets etc.
Did I mention that I love my new bike?

The new bike and I have gone on two rides together. She's very cool. Climbs really well and blips over roots and things no problem. I have a lot more confidence on this bike than I have on any other mtn bike I've tried. Descending is great except when I have to do switchbacks... then I feel off balance and like I'm at risk for going over the front end. Any tips you mtn bike girls?? Maybe I should start another thread.
Still no pics. Soon.

Look right around the corner, not at where your front wheel is pointed. And slow down lots before you start turning - makes it easier to bail if it all goes pear-shaped... ;) :p

Butt back and shoulders down - really bend those elbows! You'll be surprised how much difference it makes. And like the previous post says, really look around to the exit of the corner!
There has been a recent thread on just this topic, started by the lucky girl whose signficant other bought her a Spesh Safire? Covered a fair bit of ground about this topic, as she felt much more upright on it than her previous bike (Spesh Epic) and worried about going over the bars when descending.:) I think this is it..
