View Full Version : Can I recycle my old chain?
Can I recycle my old chain? If so, how?
I feel like it's such a waste just tossing it in the trash... :(

Lots of cool stuff can be made out of bike parts:

My town's dump has a place for scrap metal.

My local bike shop has a really cool mirror where the frame is made out of a bright red bmx tyre (sorry, that won't help you recycle your chain, but still...)

You can recycle some bike parts here (http://www.resourcerevival.com/about/recycling), but you need at least 30 pounds of stuff for paid shipping.

My LBS recycles scrap metal. I am too lazy to take care of it myself so I let them. :p When I recently broke my seat post they asked if I wanted it back, I said no and they said "that is okay we have a metal recycling bin". Sweet. They also recycle CO2 cartriges. My local trash is to behind the times for recycling but at least my LBS keeps me feeling good about myself.

Don't even get me started about the downfalls of curbside recycling in most of Texas...sigh

I live in the sticks, I happy I don't have to burn my trash since it isn't possible right now!
When I used to commute to work I would see a man and his son drive a long and collect cans/metal out of people's bins to go recycle themselves. I guess it is an extra buck when you need it.
