Last night I finally made the decision on which HIM I was going to do and DH registered me!!! :D

I will be participating in the Liberty Half Iron (http://www.libertytri.com/), June 13th 2009. Wooohooo!! I am very excited & intimidated.

Training was beautiful today as I had the extra umph of "yep, now you're signed up so you really have to commit to these sessions." lol.

One question maybe you ladies can help me with: If a size 6 fits pretty well in a wetsuit but the company sizing charts put me at an 8 which suit should I go with?

Between training for the marathon & the tris this season I know I will become more toned (already noticing changes) so I'm hesitant to get a larger size, but have no basis to go off of as I didn't race with a suit last year.

soooo hard to say, do you have any chance for an exchange -i.e. go and swim in it once, if it don't fit, send it back??

But congrats on the gutsy act of registering :eek::eek:!!!

Congrats on registering for an HIM!

I have no input on the wetsuit issue. Sorry.

Hooray for Urlea! ! !! Good job on taking the plunge!

re the wetsuit. Call the company - find out if they run large or small and what body type they fit the best. I got a 2xu because they fit larger through the hip and smaller through the chest - others can be opposite.

Good luck with all your trainging - the bar has been raised :D

Trisports.com will take back their wetsuits if they don't fit.

Wetsuits should fit snug (but not restrictive) when dry. They "loosen up" a bit when wet. If the 6 fits you better, ignore the chart and go with it.

In my experience with selling wetsuits, the size chart is a good starting point, but certainly not the definitive answer.

CONGRATS on signing up for your 1st HIM!! If my half-marathon goes well this year, I might be crazy enough to consider a HIM in 2010.

Congratulations! Looking forward to hearing about your training and race experience.

Last year I raced in a wetsuit that Dex donated to me that felt pretty good in a couple of OWS practices about 5 weeks before my race, but then trained indoors the rest of the time. I put on about 8-10 pounds in the month before my race, and the suit seemed to restrict my breathing during my race. Of course, i may need a bit more experience with it to pinpoint the exact cause.

If you know in advance how your body reacts to the conditioning that you have planned, perhaps you can take that into account while shopping for a suit? I would guess that individual people might start and end up in different places with this.

good for you! today would've been the day I would be huffing and puffing at the intended first sprint tri, but I let this one pass...

Good luck, and have fun training!!

Urlea.. that is SO exciting! Congratulations. You seem to be a VERY determined person, and I expect you do will great at this! keep us posted!

I can only suggest trying on the wetsuits. There are a few companies that will let you try and return. Nytro (http://www.nytro.com/Wetsuits_s/213.htm) They apparently send you a couple sizes, you return the ones you don't fit. Call and talk to the people wherever you are ordering from... they are apparently the most help. Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the encouragement ladies! :D

As to the wetsuits: I can purchase them locally, but will have to ask the next time I check them out if they would be willing to exchange sizes if the one I buy doesn't fit properly in the water. Either way I think I will bring my tri-suit in and see how it all fits together.

Good luck to you! A HIM is a big deal.

Another company that will exchange/return wetsuits is Promotion. www.wetsuit.com. Their prices are very reasonable, too.

Congratulations and good luck. I love the HIM distance. It's long enough to lock in at just under the red zone but it doesn't take a whole day and knock you out for a month like IM does.

If you like sub-threshold training and time on the bike, you'll love it.
