So..... two stories... first of all, my mom (who knows nothing about road bikes except that the tires are really small) asked me if I slowed down when I go through neighborhoods....after asking for a clarification, she thought that we rode at like 30-40mph.... she didn't realize how 'slow' that we actually go!

second story!!!!! I have been practicing riding without any hands on my handle bars... and I did it for like a whole 20 seconds!!! it was such a great feeling!!! Now only if I can become more comfortable with reaching my waterbottle.... :o

While I congratulate you for learning to ride without hands on bars - it's useful for that victory pose:D, or for putting on a jacket, or any other tricks, but only for pros - I would caution against reaching for your water bottle entirely hands-free. :D:D:D

In seriousness, it's a good exercise for balance but do it where you're safe.

Many, many years ago, when I was but a sprite on a 10-speed (remember those?), I could ride the whole 1.5-mile circuit of the trailer park where I lived - the road that went through it - speed bumps and all, with no hands.

Today, no longer a sprite and much more conscious of my own mortality after a couple of major wipeouts, I no longer try to ride with no hands. Especially since I'm on a mountain bike that likes to go boom.

But yeah, I'd love to experience that no-handed exultation across the finish line, but how embarrassing to throw my arms up in victory only to have the front wheel go wonky and crash hard in front of a few million spectators...ack.

Ha!

and the waterbottle comment... is not for grabbingn while not holding on... it's just grabbing it in general.... I'm so flattered that you thought that I was that amazing already!
