View Full Version : Supportive, Professional Dress Black Flats?
My Franco Sarto black patent leather flats are looking pretty beat..
I hate shoe shopping and gave up quickly this weekend. If I could wear running shoes all the time, I would!! Unfortunately my place of employment would not be fond of that.
Anyone have any suggestions for black flats that are supportive yet fairly stylish?
Thanks, Runners!

I love Naot shoes, they have a great insole made of cork. I buy mine on Zappos.com in various sizes and styles and then return any that don't fit right or look right.

I like Naots, too, but they can be pricey. I find Naturalizers very comfortable, and they come in a variety of styles. This makes me so glad that I work at home, though (in my slippers sometimes!) I had a weeklong business trip full of meetings and presentations last week and wore heels the whole week. I can feel it in my back this weekend.

I've worn Dansko clogs for years. With suits, to court, on the weekends, etc. They're certainly dressy enough with pants:)

I've found some cute shoes at Bakers. Smaller mall shoe store.

Merrell has some cute black "snappy casual" shoes.

My standby are my Frye Harness boots (I have them in black, dark brown, distressed lighter brown, and tan!!). I can dress them up and wear them w/long skirts for work. I also found Clarks, Born, and Reiker to be very comfortable.
I have several pairs of Clark's Artisan line that are heels and actually are more comfortable than most of my flats.

I've been very tempted by a pair at my local store. They're even 25% off.....
Must. Resist. Temptation.

Do it. You'll have them forever. They truly "mold" to your feet and are very very comfortable. Versatile, too. Look better, feel better w/age.

I find the Dansko clogs just a bit too much of a "crunchy" look to wear with skirts or even some dress pants. I finally broke down and bought a pair this year, though.
I second the Naots. They go on sale at STP a lot and I find the ones even with the heels are super comfortable.
There is a place here called Footstock that carries all of the high priced Euro shoes; unfortunately, their web site is just being developed. They have an upstairs discount room, where you can always find these brands on sale. Perhaps look for a store like this? DSW always has lots of Franco Sarto.

I'm a big fan of Clark's. I find they run a bit large - normally I wear a 9 (US), but with Clark's I wear an 8.5.

+1 on the Dansko clogs. I am on my feet all day and they are wonderful.

I personally wear Danskos and love them. I am also on my feet all day and walked all over China in my Danskos. I prefer the closed heel models. As a PT I ofen recommend them but also Ecco, Rockport, Naot, Clarks, Keen - though I don't think that these are very dressy.
You can also invest in a good over the counter foot bed and put them in almost any comfortable shoe for more support. Superfeet makes a footbed specifically for dress shoes.
Another vote for Naot.
Lots of replaceable parts, too.

Hey Mick,
What socks do you wear with your Fryes? I have a pair, and love them except my socks fall down with them. Any suggestions?

These work great: http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodLI_WOO.html
Also the Defeet pink wool socks (lighter weight ones, not the thicker ones). TE carries them but I didn't bother with a link.
If it's cold & I'm wearing a skirt, I'll wear tights and no socks with them.

I live in my Danskos, year round. You can wear them with any sock (or without) and the next best thing to bearfoot.

Patience paid off. I thought long and hard about them, and since I didn't yet have a job offer and they were still a bit expensive, I put them back. They went on sale 50% off, and I have 2 job offers (we're working out details, but they're pretty firm). They came home today. They're a tan distressed leather. Oh so pretty.
I got a nice pair of court-worthy dansko heels too:)

ETA: They're these: http://www.zappos.com/product/101191/color/65553. Just in time for 39 degrees and raining tomorrow. Ick.
You all were so helpful in my search for a cute new pair of shoes!
In case you were wondering, I purchased a pair of patent leather Dansko's...
I LOVE THEM! They're so so comfortable and definitely cute. Thanks all :)
