Hmmm, what to do:confused::rolleyes:...

I happily received my Valentine's Day gift of a heart shaped box of chocolates. Really, it's mostly about the beautiful heart shaped box (bling-bling--score for package marketing). The chocolate is delightful with just *one* piece--not the whole box (umm, which I have had more than one piece already).

This week I have been sick and only trained a couple of times. But, to my amazement the rest must have done me some good because my weight lose finally let go of it's plateau:D. I'm less than 5#s away from my Spring season riding weight goal.

SOOOO... what do I do???...

a) throw the chocolates away:eek:--tomorrow V-day is officially over--AND stay on the skinny track
b) keep the chocolates and mindlessly stuff the whole thing in my face--creep back up to where I finally just painfully lost

And, btw... DD is making a Valentine's Day cake as a project as I type. I have to eat some of that of course.

I tried sharing the calories, but they won't eat it:(. HELP! I need some support.

What about something like (c) put the box in the fridge and have one piece every week or so.

That is good idea. But, *huge sigh*, I usually can't stay out of the saved food. That is total pathetic lack of willpower I know. I'm usually on the "see-food-diet". If I see it... I eat it.

One of the reasons I've lost weight here lately is that I got rid of some of the things in the house that I nornally over eat on.

CRUD! I need a big does of will power:(:o.

Put it in your car for now and take it to work on Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday for you.) At my office, it would be gone within a half hour.

Hmm, I'm planning on lifting weights at the gym even tomorrow... maybe I could just leave it at the front desk... "Happy Valentine's Day--have a treat, you've earned it". Could work?

It's a really big box too.

EDIT: Oh, I don't want to sound "gift-getting" un-gracious... it was a lovely thought and gift.

develop your will power. Throwing it away is distasteful!
if you really don't want to eat them all, take it to work, at least they won't be wasted!

oops, I see you just thought of taking them to the gym. Excellent!

I know... the trash would be bad. Thx:).

I'm like you, if it's there it just keeps calling to me and I just keep picking at it. I decided a long time ago that it's better in the trash than on my hips. Don't feel guilty about it. There are times when I just want a little something, a piece of chocolate or some treat, so if I'm craving a candy bar, I throw half (or whatever I don't want) away on the way out of the store because it takes care of mindless eating, and I get just what I wanted and not a morsel more.

Usually I just avoid it don't keep it around, but with a gift, as in your case, giving it away is an excellent idea unless you are going to keep eating it, and then I say either lock it in the trunk of your car, take it to the office/gym NOW, or toss. And when you toss, make sure you open it, dump it and toss the cat's litter on top.:D

BAWHAAA!

The cat litter I had never done. DH is allergic to kitties, but I would love to have one (have a dog). I try dumping the coffee grinds on it. But, I know exactly what you mean. I sickly have been tempted to dig something out of the trash in my past dieting days. One of my GFs says to imagine maggots are crawling on the food:eek:.

I do know exactly what you are saying about throwing half the candy bar away. The "eat half" concept is how I dropped my 40#s I carried for many years as I re-found the love for riding. It is a really hard concept if you were raised to not waste food. Resturants are the worst at portions.

On the pieces of chocolate I did eat, if once I bit into it and it was a filling I didn't like, I didn't finish it. I asked mysel "is this REALLY worth it (calories) if I don't even like it?". I try to re-gift it to one of the fm if it's a flavor they like. If not, I pitched the other half.

I so love those marshmallow circus peanuts! (I know, right?) I was on a long drive recently and I had a craving, so I stopped and got a small bag from a gas station. I had a dog with me, so I took a bite of a peanut, gave him a bite, and threw the last third out the window! lol. So in effect, I only ate a third of the bag.

My dogs really really love me.

[Luckily DH stopped to buy me a Symphony Bar (my favorite) but the store only had almond (I hate). So he settled for a normal size Dove bar, ate the whole thing with little remorse since it was a normal size. The Symphony Bars are huge, like 800 calories.

If I were to get a large box of chocolates to the company breakroom to fatten everyone else up it would go! :p No use making myself be the only miserable and guilty party, share the love.

I find the office "vultures" cure left-over food problems very easily - especially if it's sweets. My esteemed colleagues are always willing to help out with these sorts of problems.

The vulture reference comes from - well, I work in Enviromental Branch, and what else would you call the circling behavior, standing around, rocking back and forth, while one is cutting cake, pie, deer sausage.....?

I wouldn't have a bit of guilt from throwing away something that would otherwise be perfectly fine to eat, except it would be bad for me. I've thrown away lots of halves of birthday cakes, brownies, etc., that we had for special occasions. The guilt of not taking care of my body would be much worse!

Oh:rolleyes:, I know that guilt. It usually comes at the end of a "bad eating day" I'll call it when you feel sick because: 1) you over-ate and/or had things you knew were not the best choices--physical sickness, 2) mental sickness-- because have 'eating-regret'... sorta like buyer's remorse.

My official gym weigh in showed me very close to my goal weight... so my will power just got a much needed happy kick in the butt!:p;)

Do you still have any of the clothes that you wore before you started losing weight? If so, go put on a pair of the old pants, hold out the waistband to see how huge they now are on you, take a picture of it, and carry the picture around with you as a will-power boost.

I do feel guilty about wasting food but not enough to waste my body. I prefer the dump it on the office method. It actually is nice to see someone grab a cookie/chocolate/candy and have a smile on their face, you have brightened their day and made yours better by not eating all that candy!

One night I was dying for jolly ranchers, bought a huge bag but couldn't stop myself from overindulging. So I just put the rest in the lobby candy dish! I wanted them for myself but I have ZERO willpower. :(

I don't keep any of my "fat" clothes, because knowing I would have to buy new clothes keeps me accountable to maintaining my weight.

Today the owner of my gym told me he ran across my "before" picture they took when I first started up with them 16 months ago. It is truly hideous, AND it was after I'd already lost 20 lbs!

I put it on the fridge. :)

"Before" photos work, too. Anything to remind you of how much you've accomplished.

Miranda:

You are a Cyclist. Food = fuel. Think of it in the same manner as Sport Beans, Clif Shot Blocks, PowerGels, etc. ... except more tasty, and likely to melt in your jersey pocket if you stick them in there.

So, enjoy in moderation, and pedal a couple extra laps around the block to assuage the guilty conscience. The calories will pedal away

I've been having a piece of chocolate every evening after dinner since Valentines day! And, guess what? Chocolate is a diet enhancing drug! I've lost weight? Now, who would have thought??:D

Thanks for the extra post of support and ideas on what to do with those sweets! That's one thing I love about TE. My cyber friends here give me a boost just when I need it:).

One of my guy friend cyclists has kept Jolly Ranchers in his jersey pocket before and he said they kept him from bonking once when he ran out of other stuff. Kinda interesting.

Some of my non-cyclists gym pals look at food, and especially sweets, as the enemy (not exactly the best thinking). Where the cycle pals do not. Food is fuel... that's a to the point good response. I'll have to remember that.

Hmm, next time I could just pass out the candy at the start of spin class;):D.
