Did 30 minutes easy run last night, about 2.5-2.8 miles. I switched my training schedule up from intervals to easy because my legs were fried. So tonight I have to do those intervals- yuck! :o

2 miles on the treadmill yesterday before I met with my trainer. I did intervals - 2 min. at a pretty fast pace, 2 minutes at my usual pace, 1 min. walk.
I had egg rolls for lunch. They are not good pre workout food.

We have a new layer of snow today so no intervals on the track, darn! I was really looking forward to getting off the treadmill and hitting the track. So back to the gym today for 5-800's and min rest and a warm up mile and cool down mile. Then I went to the yoga class. That felt great and the intervals went pretty good.
I did my 11 miler LSR on Sunday and nothing Monday due to work.
Egg rolls sound great right now! Yum!:D

I was sick last week, and the bronchitus stole my voice.....teaching was impossible, but it was 65 degrees Friday.....so even though I felt horrible, I went for a beautiful 5 mile trail run anyway....with lots of tissues :)
Long bike ride saturday (50 miler) and an extremely hilly run on Sunday.....back to the pool yesterday and out on a run tonight....6 miles tonight.
I still have a bit of a cough, but I have a terrible time cutting back! I did take one day off last week, and I just slept instead. I know it helped!
I think my principal would be appalled if he knew what I did when I was sick! I just have no willpower!

Be careful Kacie- bronchitis can stick around a long time and become worse as pneumonia! But I have also been told it is okay to run or bike with bronchitis because it does hang around so long. My doctor just said "you may not want to be outside breathing cold air". I usually get it in November/December.

I know....I am chock full of meds.....My doctor also said that if i had even a little bit of a cough when I ran out to call him. It is actually in th 70's here though, so I am not worried about the whole cold air. It is always a balance!

True, I can only stay inside so many days when I am sick. I usually choose to hike or ride at an easy pace but if you are training that is not always an option. Hope you get to 100% soon!

Just be careful Kacie!
Eight miles (high ;))... and yoga's REALLY helping. Especially when I ran right after yoga class. The more flexibility I get in the lower back, and especially the more my lumbar curve gets restored, the more naturally my pelvis rotates when I run. After my turnaround when I saw my footprints and noticed that my right foot is still toeing out a little bit, I could inner spiral the thigh and feel my leg straighten. When my arches started burning a teensy bit and I wondered whether Blister Block was going to be enough for such a long sandy run, I could cue myself big toe mounds, four corners of the feet and arch support doesn't come from shoes (http://www.healthline.com/blogs/exercise_fitness/2009/01/your-muscles-are-your-orthotics-for.html) (although my feet are definitely in the early stages of learning that). And of course when I started to fatigue, I could visualize the energy in my center powering me and pulling me forward.
I'm afraid that if I build too much mileage too early without any problems, I'll be tempted to do the full marathon in the fall. I'm crazy that way. I'd better sign up for the half now. (she says, fully intending that it's NOT going to be the next thing I do on the Internet.)
Another beautiful day... the beach was perfect... I'm grateful... yay.
I promise I will start yoga when I finish my PhD. (Late in the Summer. I hope.)
In the meantime, I'll run twice this week, just short easy runs with a few strides thrown in.
Sunday is my half-marathon.

As much as I wanted to skip running today after just having my hair cut & beautifully styled I hopped on the dreadmill at the Y for a 3.2 miler.
Felt good & the shorter hair makes for a more comfortable run. Although I did learn one lesson, not to wear pants to run indoors. I just get way to hot. Guess if this rain keeps falling I will have to find my skirt. :D
Question: For those of you who run at a Y, if you want to run longer then the allotted 30minute limit do you just sign up for use on a different treadmill? I was hoping to go 5miles today, but wasn't sure what to do.

I went for a 30 min run today after work. I was pretty sleepy tired but I made myself go. It started to snow lightly during my run which was nice. I need to motivate myself to lift my weights later tonight and do some yoga. I have been in kind of a funk today. My work hours have been cut a little which worries me and when I was talking with my Dad the other night he mentioned that my Mom is not doing very well.:( Luckily I am going to go visit them next week.

I am assuming your Y does not have indoor track. When I was a member of the Y the one I went to had one. Granted it was pretty dull as I think it was about 13-14 laps per mile. Other then that can you go at a different time when the treadmills aren't as busy?...Off hours??
Well, I was going to run at the Y tonight after finishing my swim, but then got up to the gym and every treadmill was being used!! I did not feel like waiting around, so just went home. My Y does have an indoor track but it is a really crummy one that seems like an injury waiting to happen so I have decided not to use it anymore.

I wrote about Monday's run on last week's thread...
OK, today is going to be 45-50. I really want to go on a group ride that is starting in the next town. But yesterday, after a combination of a 3.5 hour interview for my internship (I participated in the group therapy, got interviewed by the clients), being in class until 9:15, getting home at 10, and hearing that the one internship I wanted can't take me because no one wants to supervise me, even though they want me, I feel like cr*p. My asthma started hurting last night and now I just feel like my nose is runny and I am tired.
Every time I start to run, this happens. Is my body telling me something, or is it just a set of circumstances? I know I should forget about the ride and take a walk, but I can't!!!

Did 40 minutes intervals last night as planned, made it through just before a whopper of a storm came in. I was shocked to be running a bit strong but not pleased to have a bit of rawness rubbed on my thighs. Said storm interrupted my sleep and made it quite fitful all night, I have never heard winds like those! I may skip tonight's 30 minute easy run in favor of sleep. I am so tired this morning I can hardly see straight.
Crank- My theory is when you feel that mentally and physically down you should rest however your body requests. If it is saying a ride will lift you up, do it. If it is sleep, do that. If it is a long bath and nothing, do it. May not be a good training plan but it keeps me sane most of the time.

Sounds like lots happening on many levels this week. Take it easy Kacie and heal up.
Oak sounds like you are cruisin' along - Time, time time I would like to do Yoga but there is only 24 hours in a day and unfortunately I have to work, eat and sleep. How do you fit it all in?
Aggie - I agree if your body says sleep - do it - if it says slow down - do it. Sometimes we need to push through but other times that is invitation for injury.
I always use "am I hurting or just uncomfortable" normally it is just discomfort and I push through.
I made it through my VERY SLOW 6 mile run yesterday. Around and around and around on the track at the Y - It sounds like I am luckier than most, it is an 1/8th mile track so ONLY 48 times around - I broke down and bought a lap counter - VERY good investment.
this morning I did a 45 min recovery swim - Breast stroke whip kick felt VERY good on the legs
I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUTSIDE! But it stormed here again so snow and drifts over ice. We may be outside by July
Urlea - Fargo's Y doesn't have a good track? ? ? ? Guess you will have to move to Minot. We don't have any time limit on our treadmills. When they built the addition they added a lot of new ellipticals and treadmills so even during busy times they open up regularly
Urlea

Eclectic- You are doing a wonderful job staying committed to training. :D Kudos to you!
Maybe the Fargo Y! has a larger track, but the one I saw is tiny tiny tiny with only walkers on it. I'd be afraid of clocking someone on accident. The treadmills themselves have an auto shut-off after 30minutes. So I'd have to switch treadmills I think in order to run longer.
It was 60 degrees here today, so I went to the local wildlife sanctuary and did a walk/run on the trails there in the VFFs. There was still a lot of packed snow; I had hoped for some bare ground but not yet. I did more walking than running because some spots were slippery. However, other than the slippery snow/ice areas I was amazed at how sure-footed I felt in those "shoes"--I ended up seeking out fallen trees (and there are lots of them) and places where rocks were sticking up out of the stream, and having a good old time! I did step into the water a couple of times but surprisingly my feet didn't get that cold (must have been because I kept moving); I'm still waiting for the neoprene-bootie-style VFFs I ordered to arrive (actually, the second pair--I ordered the wrong size the first time and they were a little too small so I had to order a different size). Those will be better in the conditions around here right now. I officially have a bad case of spring fever...

Well, I did what was best for me today. Didn't go on the group ride as I really didn't want to take my road bike on the very wet and sandy roads with a group of people whose group riding etiquette is less than stellar. I had a ton of work to do, so after 2 hours reading at the library, I went to a pretty hard yoga class. By the time I got home and ate lunch, it was 1:45. My husband came home around 3, so we ended up just going for a 40 minute walk. Enough to make me feel like I did something, but it didn't push me over the edge.
Spin class tomorrow, run on Friday.

I did 5 miles on the treadmill this morning before work. It was warm enough
(38) to run outside, but Jeff wanted to use the weight machines, so we went to the gym instead. Fortunately I remembered my mp3 player. On Monday, it was icy so I had no choice but to run at the gym. 5.7 miles on the treadmill, without my mp3 player which I forgot, was a little bit of torture.
I've just started swimming again and seem to be breathing much better in the pool this year. I think my aerobic fitness from all the running I've been doing is benefitting my swimming as well.
I have a nutrition question - Because I run so early - usually around 5:30am - I can't really eat anything solid before I run. I've been sucking down a Gu Roctane about 15 minutes before I start, so that my blood sugar isn't too low. But I'm finding myself getting pretty hungry by the time I'm finished. Any ideas for how I can combat this? I've thought about getting up at 4am and eating a banana, then going back to sleep, but the thought of getting up so early is awful....

Sounds like you did the right thing, Crankin! I haven't managed to run all week myself. Monday I didn't have a second all day at work so did nothing but some crunches when I got home from work (late)...sigh. Tuesday was yoga class. Very enjoyable and replenishing. Today was my work at home day, so DH and I managed a short (35 minute) bike ride outside at lunchtime -- only our second ride of the year, so we're keeping it short as our tushies and knees get back in shape. Tomorrow is Pilates class, and Friday, finally, I hope to run, same as you. :)

Hi Susan -- that is rough. if you can't eat solids before you run, it sounds like you are probably doing the right thing. Could you handle another Gu during your run, maybe? I wouldn't get up at 4 to eat -- it would be too tough to get back to sleep after eating. At least for me, that sugar would start revving me up, and my brain and body would start cranking.
I am lucky -- I can (and do) eat a Clif bar or have a yogurt right before running. In fact, I have to. If I try to run more than 20 mins on an empty stomach, my stomach starts growling, and I poop out. I can't run on a full stomach, but the Clif bar or yogurt seems just right to keep me from bonking without giving me stomach cramps or side stitches.
Hopefully someone will have better ideas -- you might want to post a query on the nutrition thread as well....

Susan, I used to have the same problem and I would make smoothies. That worked really well for me.
I haven't really been around much but it's good to pop in and see that all you ladies are still out running!! Some of you were just starting the last time I was here and that was about 5 months ago I think.

My mom invited us for pizza so I skipped the run and ate pizza and drank beer. :o Tomorrow back on the wagon.
Susan- is it time or discomfort keeping you from solid foods? I can eat a Luna bar before a run but my stomach isn't hyper-sensitive to foods before a run (yet). DH cannot eat so he will do a smoothie himself or carry an additional Gu.

Susan- is it time or discomfort keeping you from solid foods?
Discomfort. Solid food is guaranteed to give me stomach cramps.
I like the smoothie idea. Maybe it would last a little longer than the Gu does. Of course, then I would be operating "machinery" at 5 am which might not be such a good idea. But maybe even a yogurt would do the trick. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to give these a try.

I forgot to say - the solid food thing is a problem for me for a quite a long time pre-run. Last Friday I took the day off. I ran about 90 minutes after eating breakfast (and not a large breakfast, either) and still cramped up. It kinda sucks.
Aggie_Ama

WOOHOO!!!! I got to run outside this morning. :D Had an awesome and invigorating 5miler with my Thursday morning running group.
It was icy out there after three days of rain, but I managed to stay upright.
Hopefully this rain thing will be over with for a while now, I absolutely love how energized the cool air & scenery makes me feel.
Susan- There's a brand of pre-made smoothie that I'm a fan of & you can find at most grocery stores or even Wal-Mart. They are Bolthouse Farm smoothies. It costs about $3.50 for 1 liter, which isn't to bad considering it's all natural.

I have the same issue. I have to have a totally empty stomach when I run or I get horrible indigestion and cramps. I usually gel.

The other thing I used to do was yogurt with a package of instant oatmeal mixed into it and usually fruit - preferrably berries. It seemed to stick to me OK but was still light and refreshing enough to not cause the stomach issues.
The pre-made smoothies work well too. I like Bolthouse as well.

Schedule for today was 5 easy, 35 hard, 5 easy but I was worn out. I just opted for 4 laps (3.2 miles) as hard as I could which wasn't hard but high heart rate. That took about 33 minutes so I trucked on until my watch read 35 and slowed for cool down running gently for about 3 more minutes to get to the car then walking a bit. I just didn't have gas in the tank for 45 minutes.

I did intervals yesterday, 9 x 1 minute. It felt better than I thought it was going to as stiff and sore as I was, and with the beach a little soft just an hour before high tide. Still I'm pretty sure it was GPS error the one interval it said I ran at a 2 minute pace. :p

So in the morning, I am running a 10K. Since I only started running about 14 months ago, and this race was the first time I had ever run that far. I am afraid that I have worked myself up for this! My pace last time I ran this 10K was 11:15. When I ran a 10K in September my pace was 9:09. I want to beat that second time, but this is a much much hillier corse. Since September, I have been working so hard on distance, and I hope a little speed came with it! OH--and it's supposed to rain here! Gotta run fast anyway! :D

My stomach could handle the oatmeal and fruit mixed in if I were cycling. But that's definitely too many solids for me to run on.
My longest runs are 1 hour. If I ever decide to try to go longer (like if I'm ever crazy enough to get sucked into a half marathon) I'm going to have to find something that either sticks with me, or something I can consume on the run.

re eating before running - I don't know what I will do the day of the 1/2 mary I don't run in the AM I run in the PM and have fueled all day. I figure I need to start trying Gu etc. because I run so slow I would need dinner in the middle :p
good for you Urlea on getting outside - I am chicken - too much ice
Well I thought last night's run would be great because I felt good all day and had a good AM swim.
Well I pushed it and didn't use my inhaler, didn't take any aleve and it was probably the most difficult 2 miles I have done. My legs hurt and felt like lead and my breathing was labored although my HR wasn't up.
Now I know the value of training logs w/ notes. Note - use inhaler, note - don't get cocky after your first 6 mile run and think you are 23 not 52 and can recover that fast. Note - Painkillers in moderation are a good thing, not something to be scorned. Note - get more sleep. Note - eat better suppers Note- drink way more water after long run - I think that was most of my problem - I thought I was hydrating well but I need to do more
I decided to get up and swim today thinking that would help - NOT a good swim day. Even my arms were tired. THEN to add to the misery I did legs only whip kick and stretched a groin ligament so even my breast stroke hurt  I was going to call it a day, get out but decided to use the pull buoy and just do arms to finish out the time.
I am supposed to start speed work tomorrow - 5miles worth - so not happening  I hope to do 1 mile warm up, 1 mile of short intervals and 1 mile cool down. That will up my weeks mileage from 10 miles to 11 or 10% which is recommended, rather than jumping to 13 which is 33%.

I went to the gym to run on the treadmill after my 5th (sigh) interview for an internship position. I knew I would need to run after that.
On Wednesday as I was lying down for relaxation at the end of yoga, I got a huge spasm in my back. I have never had this. I had to stay seated until it worked itself out, but it was *there* for the rest of the day. Yesterday it was still around, but I went to spin. Then my left hamstring started hurting, which is another oddity. I think I was favoring my leg or changing my position on the bike because of my back. Last night I was in pain, but was much better this morning.
So. I warmed up and then ran continually for 21 minutes, 5 seconds, which got me to two miles. This is about 50 seconds faster than Monday. My HR still is up in the 160's at this pace, but I guess that's the way it is. I walked for 2 minutes and then ran a little longer, to get to 2.5 miles.
I am happy with the increase in my ability to run continuously, but I feel like it will never get easier. I hope to run outside next week, after my Garmin arrives. I am trying t remember how slowly I had to build up when I started riding...

I didn't get to run today after all. :( I got a call that my contacts were in at the eye care center, and I realized I had no other chance to get a Valentine and some dark chocolate for DH (he is one man who LOVES chocolate!), so I ended up running errands at lunchtime instead of going to the gym, and by the time I left work for the day, I was just too tired to run. I will try to run tomorrow, if it's not too chilly outside.
Hang in there, Crankin. Running is HARD. I started about a year ago, and it's easier now, but it's still more difficult than cycling. Always will be, I think. Still, it does get (slightly) better, and I'm not terribly consistent. I am sure I could run a little faster and longer if I were more consistent in my runs. I'm lucky to get in 2x a week on a good week. The nice thing about running, though, is that you can get a great workout in as little as 30 minutes, if that's all the time (or energy!) you have, as it sometimes is for me.
Have good weekends, all!

So last year, I ran this 10K in 1:09:50 (as my first 10K), and this year I finished in 55:45. I was really really happy with it. I had forgotten how very hilly this race is too. It is always up or down. I think I could go even faster on a flat race :p My best 10K time before this was in a downhill point to point race in the fall at 56:51.
It actually didn't rain on me! It was in the 50's and misty, but no rain! I had been worried all day yesterday, because I hate running in the rain too!

Today I went for a 4 mile run. I had to convince myself to go as it was cool out, low 20s and grey. Once I started I was happy to be out. I only saw one other person out walking. I woke up really early and couldn't get back to sleep, so even though I'd totally abused my body last night  I decided to go ahead and enter a local 5K for motivation. Two and a half miles from my house, on the beach, so almost the run I would've done regardless, and if I didn't run early I'd have had to wait out the tide. As long as I was awake anyhow I couldn't figure out a good reason not to ride my commuter bike up the street and pay my money to benefit the Boy Scouts.
27:47, which really wasn't that bad considering last night's chicken (which I never eat, but at least it was organic), dairy (which I shouldn't eat, but do if I'm not staying clean for an event), three glasses of wine (hey, we were doing Valentine's Day early rather than try and brave the restaurant crowds tonight ), dessert (ditto), and four hours of sleep. :o Plus the sand and the humidity. Good enough for third in age group - there's a race almost every week within about a 15 mile radius, so it really thins out the competition around here. It was a fun event and I hung out with a few people I know after the race, so I was glad I came out for it.

AWESOME JOB KACIE ! ! !
that is a lot of time to drop!
Congrats on your run too Oak. Just getting out and doing it was feat enough.
I am trying to gear up to go today - I ended up going to a concert last night, got home late, didn't eat well, had a few beers  Well hey it was Friday night.
I have some errands to do then we shall see what this old body is saying.
I will try to get out and do something even if it is "program"

Wow! Nice job Kacie and Oak! Fast times for both of you. I ran with the ladies this morning. We started from my house at 6:15 AM and we met some other runners at 0700 and then back to my house so I managed to get in 12 miles of a lot of hills. Oh boy do I feel it! But had a decent run and I was back home and making pancakes by 0830. I had promised to babysit my little 19 month old grandson at 1100 so I needed to get an early start. I just snuggled him to sleep for a nap. What could be better! Hoping for a nice easy run tomorrow. The temps were in the 20's with a little snow.

OK, I ran outside today. I went with the idea of taking a walk, against my better judgement of running 2 days in a row. Of course, I was dressed for walking and was immediately zipped down. It was really just a question of my jacket being too heavy.
So, the route is 3.2 miles, starting on the big hill I live on, which is a #9 shape. I walked the first 4 minutes, to avoid running downhill and to warm up. I felt pretty good, only stopping to walk over a few icy spots on the part that has a sidewalk on a main road. When I turned onto the street that leads to my street, I slowed way down and then walked for about 2 minutes. It's a slight uphill here, lots of potholes and cars were coming in both directions. Then I saw a couple walking in front of me, so I sped up, ran and passed them until I got to the 10% grade part of my street. I walked up the hill and then ran down the next part, then up the next little hill, where I was dying, to my driveway. That is a 15% grade, so I walked up, as a cool down.
I had a watch on, since my Garmin still isn't here. I knew I was slower than on the treadmill, but I think my total time was 36 minutes, including the 4 minute walking warm up. Not bad, but I will be happy when I can push myself more by knowing the speed, as I do in the gym.
Whatever I did to my back in yoga is still hurting and is now in my hamstring. This is not from running or riding. However, my groin feels a little off, so I used my yoga for cyclists dvd stretching section when I got back and then hurt myself with the roller for about 10 minutes.
Tomorrow i am going either snow shoeing or x country skiing at that very challenging place I went to last weekend.

Great job Kacie!
My training schedule was an 8 miler today. I woke up with some GI distress (sorry TMI) but finally got to the path at 1:00. My hip was hurting and I was unable to make the 8 miles but I pushed on for about 6 and was proud of myself for even going.
I better think about seeing the doctor before I pay that half marathon entry. My hip is hurting and my left knee keeps swelling. I think it might just be getting back to running but I really need to be sure because I cannot afford to flush an $85 entry if I actually have an injury. I am doing stretching and taking rest days. :(
Well, I did get out for a run today. 20 minutes outside on grass and pavement in the VFFs; toes were cold as it was right around freezing! The heavier duty ones I ordered are taking FOREVER to get here, which is annoying given that it's cold again. The regular ones just don't cut it in these temperatures...

We went up up up the hill today, it was strenuous and we walked some - and then around the top of the hill, and there was snow, which is harder to run on, and it was a bit chilly.
Ran about an hour, walked maybe 15 mins.
Back home I dropped into bed for about an hour and a half - the cold takes much more out of you than you'd think.

Yesterday's programed run was supposed to be warm up, 2 miles of interval's cool down to add up to 5 miles - sooooo not happening
Log note to self - off day DOES not mean drink beer, party, stay up late day.
Reality run: walked .5 miles, stretched out problem calf muscles, slow ran 1 mile on treadmill, did 1 mile of 1 minute intervals, slow ran or fast walked recovery minute. slow ran/walked last mile. Total w/ walking was about 3.75 miles
My legs are shot. I need to take an easy week and let them recover, I think it will help in the long run. I have evening work commitments on my run days this week so it throws all the recovery days off. I may just walk tomorrow and try the long run on Wednesday.
I really have to take into consideration I don't have a running base from another time in my life (I ran my first non-stop mile when I was 46) and no matter what I choose to think, at 52, I take longer to recover.
That is my excuse anyway.
I need all the support I can get from all of you! yesterday I was ready to throw in the towel and say "I am not a runner, just accept the fact and concentrate on swimming and cycling."
hmmmmm I just thought of something - Alpine isn't that what I heard you say and now you got out and did a hill run - you are my hero! :D

Yeah I think that's something I might have said. Or something about stopping running altogether, I can't really remember ;)
Well, as long as I am nice to my quads and so, and massage, they seem to oblige. I'm still slow as a snail, DBF had to wait up all the time.

I find the recovery the hardest part. I am 47 and it just takes longer than it used to. The two girls I train with are 10 and 15 years yonger. They can still do back to back hard days. Not me.
I try to focus on really doing quality work on my hard days, going very easy on my easy days and taking 1 or 2 rest days a week. It does me no good at all to go into a scheduled hard day with a lot of fatigue built up.
I also ice when I get home and have a recovery drink after every workout.
You can do it!!!! Just not as often as the kids!!!!!

Anyone have a good resource for hip stretches/exercises? My hips are really sore today. I am not ready to give up the half marathon dream but my body is protesting. Sometimes I wish I could blame age but I turn 28 Tuesday, I am a kid compared to a lot of marathoners I know! :(

I have to do hip stretches too!
I see a chiropractor who specializes in runners.....he keeps my hips right, and gives me stretches every time. I also roll on a roller thing all of the time.

I am dead! Today I ran a slow easy 6 miles just to recover and than had a house full of family to celebrate DH 48 BDay. I just finished cleaning up and put on loungy clothes! Yummy dinner and homemade cheesecake to die for! My legs feel fatigued and I am sooooooo tired after yesterdays long run and todays run.
Hope everyones week is blessed!

thanks R&R girl! that is a great site. I go on runners world all the time but haven't run across those.

I do the hip swings everytime after I run and I can tell a big difference. My hips are becoming much looser - they used to be my problem but now I don't even notice them (maybe because my calves took over as the problem area)
Also I do a glute/hip stretch that I didn't see on there that hits the side muscles.
I face the rail holding on, cross my legs close together, bend over and push the hip of my back leg out and back until I get the stretch down the side of th buttock area.
I do 2 sets of 10 on each leg of the hip swings w/ the glute stretches in between.
hmmmm I am sorry to hear you are hurting :( but I thought it was just because I was 52 - there is some small consolation in knowing that 28 year olds suffer too. What is it about group suffering ? ? ? ?

I do have a recovery drink immediatly following.
How and what do you ice? and for how long?
I have been doing inside calf stretches every time I am at the Y whether it is a run day or not and I can finally feel some let up in the pain department there. I am going to have to suck it up and do more treadmill - it is the cornering on the track that was the problem.
I am going to take more recovery time and work on hydrating better (I thought I was doing a good job in that dept. but I guess not) and eat better suppers. BF and lunch are very good but then I am not a supper eater especially if I go to the Y after work.
I did spin class today then walked the track for about 1/2 mile to visit w/ a friend. When at spin class I thought "ahhhhhhh this doesn't hurt!"
thanks for your support all and keep it coming - I need it!
I'm still making progress on my Marathon Training (with Dad). We had our longest run yet yesterday- 9 miles. It felt GREAT! I loved every minute of it :)
My legs definitely felt like they were in new territory during the last two miles.
I took today off, mostly b/c I wanted to see a movie with my girlfriends and I figured it wasn't too bad of an idea to rest after a long run...
Ten miles next wknd, starting to think about electrolyte replenishing during the runs..maybe when I get to twelve miles or so?
Happy Running!

8 or 9 miles today... the "usual" for Sundays lately it seems. 4-5 miles mostly flat, 4-5 miles mixed. It was cold and windy... should have worn my lined wind-proof shirt. Me and my dog ran sidewalks that were a little wet and still icky from recent snow, her feet and the back of my legs were dirty! I had to hose her off (with cups of warm water and then dry with a towel ;)) when we got home.
Upcoming week... Tuesday hill repeats, Thursday intervals counting steps (100 hard/50 easy, 200/100, 300/150, 400/200, repeat for 20min - not quite 2 full sets right now), Sunday another 8-10 miles.
I definitely have to have my chiropractor visits no farther than 3 weeks apart, my pelvis and hip joint really need to be adjusted. I might need to put them sooner, and talk to my PT about strengthening to reduce frequency of joint adjustments, or something. I really want some massage and acupuncture (both would feel good), so maybe I'll just do those every couple of weeks, too for good measure.... all in the name of endurance, right?? ;)
No running for me today...except maybe to the bathroom. There's been a stomach bug going through the nursing home where I work, and this weekend was my weekend on (last night I had two residents start "throwing and going"), and now I have it. Yuck. I just hope my roommates don't catch it--trying to quarantine myself as much as possible. Also hoping it only lasts 24 hours as these bugs often do.

Ugh. If it's the same thing I had two weeks ago (I suppose probably not) it is NASTY. It was really a full week before I was 100%. Hope you feel better soon Jolt.

Wow, there is a lot of running going on!! I can hardly keep up with all the posts.
I love how much everyone supports each other here... hints on stretches, recovery etc.
I ran 7,5 miles yesterday on trail along the OR coast, it was beautiful, peaceful and fun. Slow... but that's OK, I was trashed from a hard ride and there were a ton of very steep hills.

Yuck!! I don't think it's the same as that...I am already starting to feel better than I did this morning and the GI stuff has slowed down a lot. Hopefully this will be one of those 24-hour things.

OK, so don't call the men in the white coats, but when I can, I take an ice bath....15 mins. The first two mins are brutal and then it just gets numb and tingly.
If I can't do the ice bath, I take 4 ice bags and 2 very large ace bandages and do 2 bags on each leg and wrap them tightly with the ace. I leave them for 20 mins and then shift them down over my knees.
It works wonders.
And I am also doing the chiro every two weeks and a massage every two weeks. It has really helped.
