I actually did post this photo some time ago here but now I can't seem to do a search older than 1 year ago.
It was to show how fat my head was (that's why I now wear a largish bike helmet!) and as a kid I was abit chubby until around 9 yrs. old I started to lose it.
Am on the right-hand side, at around 4-5 yrs. old. Which means photo shot in 1964 in downtown Waterloo, Ontario. We had no car but my family could walk around to stores and park. A sister, who is 1 yr. younger, is beside me. Can't you figure out which child was known by the parents as the grumpy kid? :p
I wish I could post a real valuable black and white photo of self, as a 4-5 month baby and my mother is wearing a high neck mandarin collared Chinese dress. When I get around to it...
and 2nd photo, how we were 2 yrs. ago. I'm on the left at 48.

Mimi, your sister seems to naturally tan deeper than you. I do have another sister (not in these photos), who does not tan as deeply as the rest of us. Don't you just love the vintage cars in our photos..
At least you have a photo on bike in childhood. There were no photos taken of any of us on a bike..not at any point in time when we were children/teens. Probably because my father guarded his Pentax SLR camera and only allowed us occasionally to use his camera so not to waste cost of film. (We were poor, not because my father was unrelenting.) And when we were out playing and biking...he had to sleep in afternoon before he worked his evening restaurant shift.
Our trips out of town were just day trips by family car, to Toronto once a year.
Ah those "hillbilly" days. :D

That's me on the far left. We were at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. I would say this is 1970? The two in the middle--the short one and the one in shorts--are my big brothers. The other two guys, I don't know. They didn't come with us. I was a skinny little kid--wish I could get THAT back. :)

I remember when that picture was taken- I was walking to school in Greenwich Village down west 11th street with my friend Susan (she's the brunette). Susan always had nice warm clothes and gloves and tights.... i had bare head, neck, hands, a too-thin coat, the wind was blowing up my bare legs and I was freezing my a** off!

I did occasionally used to get some pretty good hand me down clothes from Susan though. ;)

Yeah, don't you love us in our panties out in the yard? Squeezing a kitten and sitting on a giant watermelon that my grandmother grew herself. Made sure I had my shoes on, because, unlike my cousins, I lived in Chicago, not rural Arkansas. My dad always called that hat a Chinamen's hat. I don't know if that's an inappropriate term or not. I wish I still had that hat, though!

The third one is me and my baby sister. This was around the start of school, September 1976. My dad had just gotten stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. We lived in Bossier City in some apartments before we bought our first house. I remember I loved that polka-dot dress. I wore it for school photos and ended up having a bloody nose that day. My dress was ruined. I was so embarrassed! I think the sun must've been in my eyes in this picture, hence the wink. :p

Mimi's brings to mind a song I have on an album somewhere: Kate & Anna McGarrigle, "Dancer with bruised knees". ;) Although the song is more about that falling-on-head-after-flying-through-the-air phenomenon that Bruno mentioned. Great picture, Bruno! We don't have any like that because my Mom was always too slow, checking and rechecking the light, the distance, the shutter settings. We used to tease her that even the stones we sat on would get up and leave by the time she was ready to snap the picture.

One of my favorite pictures- me at about 3 years old I think? My papa kissing me. Sadly, less than 2 years later he was gone from cancer...but i remember him so well, remember playing with him and adoring him, I even remember his voice! :o

here is me with my Grandma who I miss so much. She died 28 years ago. I can still remember how much i loved to hug her and just cuddle with her. She would let me eat anything I wanted. For breakfast she would give me bagles with cream cheese and bacon! Mmmmmm and Icould watch cartoons all day at her house if I wanted to!

Interesting timing on this thread. I'm visiting with my folks this week and wanted to scan a couple of pictures of me & a longtime friend. I scanned a few more as well for other reasons. And I did find this one of me on a bicycle (flip flops, suicide brakes...):

OK, finally getting around to this. Since I can't figure out how to put the text under the photos (it's just been an hour project for us to scan them, as something was not working), here's the info.
The one with binoculars: I was 4 and it's in front of Plymouth Rock. Yes, it's just a rock encased in a gate. 1957
The one with me and my 2 friends at the skating rink is on my 8th birthday. i was heavily into skating, lessons, etc 1962
Then, there's a picture of me and my boyfriend, where I am in a long dress. God, how did I get my hair that straight? That's in my junior year of HS, 1970, at my sorority formal on the Queen Elizabeth in Ft.Lauderdale. Well, it was really a Jewish youth group (BBYO), but in the south it became sorority-like.
The one with me in the fancy dress and white gloves is in 1966. I was going to someone's Bar Mitzvah party. I loved that dress. My dad bought it for me on a business trip to Dallas, at Neiman Marcus (they weren't in the east back then).
Then, there's one of me in 8th grade, looking very modish, with my grandparents and my brother who was 3 in the background. 1967.
The white dress.
The gloves.
Gramma's coat!
The goofy brother!
Wow.
I kinda like G-Ma's coat :p

Actually, I think it was a Maremekko dress, which was a popular "artsy" brand that was sold in Harvard Square.
The white dress had a pink part on the top. It's just hard to see. I wore that dress to my senior prom, too.

Too fun. These are a couple I had scanned for my older sister's xmas present a couple years back. The first one is about 6th grade, I believe that was last day of school.
Number two is 7 or 8th grade (around 78 or 79). All my fillings showing!
And last, I have no idea -- I must be about 7 or 8 here - -I don't remember the trip.

My hair was straight (and butt-length :( ) until I hit my early teens and my best friend and I decided we wanted to look like Anita Skorgan. We both went to the hairdressers, got our hair chopped off :( and permed. I was devastated that we didn't look anything like Anita Skorgan - and my hair never went straight again. It's just gotten curlier and curlier, and if my mother is anything to go by it'll end up frizzy. Heavy hair products here we go.
But hey - doesn't anybody have any platform shoes or truly big bellbottoms to show off? Don't we have any fashion slaves from the 70s here?

This is in front of my grandparents' house in Arizona (and now *I* live in Arizona!) when I was not-quite-three years old.
The doll I'm holding is named Grunt. She is my first doll from when I was a baby. She has velcro that allowed her to hang on the crib bars... apparently, as a baby I would reach for her, and frustrated by my lack of freedom, arm-span, and/or motor skills, I would grunt. Thus, my parents named her Grunt, and that's just how it is. I should disclose that I still talk about Grunt in the present tense because she moved across the country with me for graduate school. :o
I would also love to know what kind of tree that is, because it looks like I'm standing in front of a giant pineapple (or perhaps I was a very small child...)!

Unfortunately most of my kiddie pictures are in Germany with my parents, all I got is a couple of baby pics, so here is me as a happy baby with my cousin:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l21/punkypossum/Random/Kiddie%20Pics/017.jpg
Followed by me looking rather gormless, but a prime example of my messy eating habits. According to my mum, any food that went into my mouth would have to be pushed further in by my fist (apparently I could get my whole fist in!). The quality is unfortunately not very good, as these are photos of the originals, that's why there is so much reflection....

I do think it's funny to look at pictures of me when I was a kid. I was pretty stinkin' cute back then, so I always end up wondering what happened. Hah!
It's a shame that I don't remember much about that bike except how much I loved it. (The basket had brightly colored plastic daisies on the front.) We didn't bring it back with us when we left Germany, because I'd outgrown it by that time and it had been replaced with a shiny green 3-speed.

You all make me wish I had a picture of a little me and a bike. But my father forbade us to have bikes so we had to do back-alley riding, so to speak. ;) I joke all the time that I wonder what he thinks in heaven about his family having their only little Livestrong Challenge cycling team. He's probably telling my mother how he'd wish we wouldn't ride, while my mother tells him not to worry so much and isn't it a nice thing we are doing in honor of my sister. :)
I have to dig through and at least find a pic or two to scan and post. Since I never looked so good as I did at 5 or 6, there should be no embarrassment there. I definitely peaked far too soon! :)

Zen, I honestly don't remember the occasion. It was probably a Sunday morning and we were either going or coming home from church (we always dressed up for church).
And I was always sooo short that my bike seats were always too high - I stood up a lot when I biked. I remember when I got my first "banana bike" - I was so excited to be able to sit down and pedal.
I am now only 5 feet tall and the only bike that I have ever found that fits me properly is made by Terry. As you know, they specialize in making bikes for shorter women. I have the Terry Classic - the one where the front wheel is shorter than the back wheel. It fits me perfectly!

I was just thinking that! It's downright ~~~creepy~~~!
Maybe an assistant is behind the chair, helping to keep the baby propped up and squeezing his though to make him laugh?

Ever since mimi started this thread, I started to wonder where a highly valuable family photo was..the original.
Found it and had it immediately digitized. I have the one and only copy. It's a period piece. :p This actually needs to be sent to another family member for safekeeping. Photos of mother in this type of dress, only is total of 5 different photos of family photos out of several hundred.
1/2 century ago, shootingstar became a twinkle in the eye for real shortly after picture bride mom immigrated and married father....just 2 wks. after she met him in person for first time in Canada.
I'm sorry no childhood bike photos. :p

Yup. Since I was kid no.1, I was a frequently photographed baby for lst 18 months of life. The youngest in the family is bummed out and jealous, she only has a photo of her at 12 months. Not any earlier. Parents probably too busy and tired.
In ways I can't quite articulate, looking at old photos of parents when they were young with unlined faces, makes me abit sad.
Maybe this thread will inspire more members to post who haven't posted yet. It is a fun thread, mimi.
I'm kid #3. There are hardly any photos of me :p

Shootingstar, you look a lot like your mother. She looks so elegant in that dress.

What a fun thread this is. I only just discovered it and started browsing. What wonderful pictures!
Better late than never, I decided to jump in with a few photos of my own. The first is the earliest picture I have of me. That's my mom and dad & brother (he was 10 years older).
The next was at a beach near the house where I grew up (on the lower Potomac for you MidAtlantic gals). I am playing in my brother's boat. Note it was named for me :D .
The last is obviously not in the summer! The snow had drifted enough so that we could make a cave! Great memories.

I am ten and half years older than my brother. I still feel like an only child; I mean I moved out when he was 7. We have only lived in the same city for about 3 years, when he was in middle school/HS. I wish we were closer, as we get along well, but I rarely see him.

Oh Karen you are so right! I loved him and followed him around all the time. His nickname for me was "Brat" and I am sure I earned it.
I, too, feel like I was an only child because he was gone to college by the time I was 8. He spent two years at a college here in VA, then an appointment to West Point, then the Army, then Vietnam....and he never came home. :( He died December 9, 1969.
Still, the memories are wonderful. Thanks for this thread!

This is the only childhood photo I have - my mom doesn't trust me with them yet - she keeps telling me I might lose them. Keep in mind I am 47 years old. I loved this dress. It came with matching bloomers.

Crankin & Karen - thank you for your good thoughts. It was a crazy time and even though I only had my brother for 16 years, the memories are wonderful.
BTW - I don't think we have had enough snow for a snow cave since that photo was taken!

I'm on the right.. this was Earth Day, '88 or '89? I really don't remember.. all I know is that 20 years later, that tree is HUGE.. so huge it's hard to believe we actually brought it home in the back of our minivan and planted it ourselves.

Are you ready? This one is an eye roller. My brother still has that bottle--he uses it as a change jar.

Oh my lord. You look like you just hatched :D And in the first picture you can see that you're really a fairy, just missing a couple of wings. Beautiful!

I loved this bike. I remember going with my dad to the bike shop across the street to pick it out for my 12th birthday and riding it along the Walnut Creek Trail (I think that was what it was called anyway).

My first bike! I found it early on my birthday when my brother convinced me to check out our parents' room...so glad I was introduced to riding at a young age!

Hi! In 1969 my day changed the seat and handlebars of my Sears blue bike and turned it into a Stingray!
I was so impressed that during my lunch break from school (2nd grade) I hopped on my upgraded ride in my school dress! :D

I loved seeing all the fabulous pictures, OMG I am grinning from ear to ear!
Here's my contribution, who knew my sister and I would grow up to be a couple of bikerchicks? My sister is the blonde. I'll try to find our most recent photo of us on our bikes.
