With lay-offs happening at our work places we are playing it safe financially which means a bike trainer has been crossed off of our budget.
I'm hoping to do a HIM this season & would really like to get started on more cycling base.
So, I'm curious. Would it be wise for me to join spin classes until spring arrives? There are a few more months of winter in this area yet.
Or am I better off beating myself up in the pool & in my running?:o

OTOH if you have to pay for a bunch of spin classes you're quickly up to 100$ which will also get you a used trainer ....

Have you checked on ebay? I just got a top end trainer for my DH at a pretty good price. I saved about $150.00.
Just a thought.

When is the HIM that you have in mind? Can you afford to wait a few months to start the biking?
Depending on how tight your budget is, have you checked Craigs list for a trainer?

Where do you swim? Do they offer spin classes or would you have to join a different gym for spinning?
XC skiing is a great workout and uses similar muscles (I've been told) to cycling. Could you do that, assuming you already have the skis? I dunno, I just figure anyone who lives in Fargo must have lots of winter equipment.

I agree with the XC siing. A lot of people here train in the winter by skiing to get ready for the cycling season.

Thanks for the input. I've been keeping my eye on ebay and craiglist. So far no stellar deals.
I'm part of a gym mainly for the use of their pool, but they do offer spin classes which would be free for me.
I have been running all winter with a 1/2 marathon base building towards a full in May.
The HIM I was looking at is on June 13th. I was looking at another that was towards the end of July. Having it later in the season would be nice, but it is in an adjoining state & I'm unsure of the travel. Will have to decide soon.
