Hot Foot Help

I suffered with a hot foot (mostly my right) all last bike season and this winter while I'm on the trainer. I have been riding with Sidi MTB shoes and spd cleats. I've just ordered a new pair of SIDI Genius 5 road shoes (1/2 size larger) hoping this will help the problem and am wanting to change pedals as well. I'm considering Speedplay Light Actions. I know many of you have the same problem. Has anyone found anything that helps?

Metatarsal buttons. You can find the ones that just stick down on your present insert on the net, and the specialized inserts and some of the super feet have them. Worked for me. For me it was pushing down on that small area. The button spreads something or other out.

I had to switch to a shoe that was a lot stiffer and that seemed to help, although I still have a little bit of a problem after very long distances. It helps to take my shoes off and walk around barefoot if there's time to.

Some people get hot spots when they use small cleat/small pedal systems, since you take the force over a smaller part of your foot. You may want to switch to a pedal with a larger platform. Also take a good look (and a good feel) at your cleat bolts and make sure they aren't sticking up *through* the sole of your shoe.... (there's usually nothing there to stop them, so if you have thin soles or long bolts they can actually stick up into your foot :eek: )

My bf has had some issues with Speedplay giving his feet problems. He used to ride on LOOKs but decided to try something new. I use LOOK pedals and they seem to work well for me.

I adjusted my cleats down to the very bottom of the cleat area, putting the pedal closer to the center of the foot. That in itself did more good for me than my Sole shoe inserts.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I've changed my pedals to Speedplay Xtra Lights and have bought new Specialized shoes with carbon soles. So far I've not had any issues but my saddle time with my new set up is only in a trainer. I'm hoping this is a good fix.

I know this was from a while ago, but I have the exact same problem - Sidi MTB shoes, SPD set-up, hot foot on my right side. A friend told me it was because of the MTB shoe and a road shoe would be better. I'm hoping this helps, because it's really annoying. Did the other set up work for you/still working for you?

I have this problem if I ride my mountain bike for a longer than normal spell...we went on an all day outing and that problem cropped up. On my MTB I have shimano SPD cleats and I use specialized MTB shoes. I like the SPDs because they are easy to get out of!
Yet I can ride all day (and do) on my roadbike....with Look pedals and Specialized carbon shoes (can't remember the model). They were worth the money for the amount of time I spend on the roadbike.
My ex had speedplays and had a terrible time with hotfoot. He was riding in Sidi shoes that he had had forever. Finally, he switched to better shoes and Look pedals. That fixed that.

If I ride 15+ miles in my Tahos with a soft-ish mtb sole, I get hot foot. I noticed my carbon soled mtb shoes do not give me that problem.

An issue. I am surprised this is not addressed more often by shoe and pedal manufacturers and retailers. Hot foot is really no fun.

I struggle with the problem. I bought super huge and wide shoes for my feet and road them very loose. That helped my feet a lot, but produced toe overlap on my bike. (mtb shoes and pedals on a road bike.)

I have switched to a road shoe and a road pedal to eliminate toe overlap, but am not completely satisfied. My feet are not completely comfortable. I am working on the insole/metatarsal button end of things now. Problem is I have a WIDE foot and the buttons take up too much room.
