Another newbie 170 mile ride question

There is a ride this spring in my area I really want to do. Its a MS ride, Coast the Coast. 2days. I want to do both days but need any info anyone can give. There is $60 entry fee. Does that cover a hotel or where do you stay? I have no idea what to take, what to do? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I very highly doubt that the entry fee covers hotel. Usually accomodation is upto participants. Also, note that because it is MS bike ride, you will be requirred to raise certain amount (in your case I think it is $350) in order to be allowed to ride.

I just took a look at the MS site for the ride. As others have mentioned, the $60 fee just covers the entry. There's a $350 fundraising minimum. If you click on the link register for the ride, it will take you to a page with a number you can call for more information. They should be able to tell you if there are cheap accomodations available, either at the university where the ride starts, local campgrounds or at area hotels. They should be able to tell you the logistics for the ride, too.

What should you bring: Your bike, bike gear, any food that you want for the rides (although the ride will be supported presumably), and other necessary supplies (extra tubes for instance). A change of clothes for the second day of the ride and some clothes to wear off the bike, along with your toiletries and whatnot. They probably want you to limit yourself to one bag. If you're camping, you'll need that gear, too. Travel as light as you can. They're probably transporting your bag between the starting location and the starting place for Day 2.

I've donated to various MS events. I almost always get an email from someone participating asking if I will donate. My impression is that the MS Society makes it pretty easy to raise the money. I think most people recognize that it is a worthy cause so I doubt you'll have any trouble raising the money.

Thanks for your replies. I have read the site and couldn't find much info on the actual ride. I thought maybe a hotel would let rooms for charity or whatnot. I hope to do this. I will have to start riding more road to condition myself(normally a dirt girl,lol). I am doing the 5 Boros in May which is 42 miles and looking forward to that.

The bike club may have negotiated a cheaper rate at are hotels and/or arranged for dorm rooms to be available, but I doubt very much that you'll find anything but camping for free.

The MS150 I did provided free overnite accomodations on the gym floor of a school, and transported one overnight bag per rider for free in a truck. Meals were also provided.

Also, if you join a local team, they often provide tents with cots, in exchange for being credited with the money you raise as part of the larger team effort. Definitely more comfortable than a gymnasium floor!
