DH and I were in the LBS today and I was looking at a Santa Cruz Juliana (sadly no I am not shopping just like looking). It was real eye catching but I really wonder the logic of and all white moutain bike? I mean really white, white fork, white frame, white grips. It was sexy and I was sitting here thinking if I had $1900... Wait, could I really deal with that? I think an all white mountain bike would make me OCD really fast. :p

I must agree, Amanda. Insanity, I tell you!

(I have a white road bike, but that's not the same thing at all....:D)

But white bikes are hot...

Except the grips. No matter how good they may look, not even OCD can keep those clean.

LOL - at least you would know when it needs a clean.

DirtDiva - have you been off eating cake for awhile? Good to see you back.:)

I have a white road bike, and it's beautiful but it shows every speck of dirt and splashed gatorade and grease. When I had a mountain bike, it was black, and I got away with lots of caked mud and who knows how much grease. But white bikes are awfully pretty!

I don't get white on mountain bikes either. I have a white Fox fork, and I am OCD about rubbing it down. I wish it were a different color.

Who decided white was sexy anyway?

I don't know why white is "sexy" but this all white bike just looked slick. Maybe it was imagining the easy of accesorizing? DH pointed out if our record drought doesn't end any bike we ride looks like crud here. I should wipe down my black one before I go ride today.

My new Gary Fisher Paragon is all white. The frame, fork, brake calipers, and brake levers are white. I'm adding a white WTB Deva ti saddle as soon as I have the money. The bike is down right sexy. The white is not hard to keep clean - just ride it in the snow.:p

White would stay clean for about 2 min here in Western Australia... Especially at the Goat Farm!

Not from mud but red/orange dirt of course covered by ***** pea gravel Western Aust is famous for.

white is this years hot color in the bmx race world... All the cool kids want the new white stuff... Dont get it either?
Our mechanics HATE white bikes! And when we get roadies in for service withh white bar tape we have to instantly cover the bars in press and seal saran wrap.

My GT mtb is white, and it looks great covered in mud and dirt! Come to think about it, that bike looks great in any conditions- I love it! Color wasn't something that I worried too much about when I bought it....

RM, I love that tip about press and seal wrap for white bar tape- thanks for sharing!

Your mechanics sound high maintenance. Hate white, hate mechanical discs. :p My roadie is blue and white but it has dark blue bar tape. I still am daydreaming about that Juliana.

I don't blame them....I'm gun-shy about white on customers bikes too. A bike can come in slathered in road grit, and with sweaty torn bar tape that used to be white, but if there's even a speck of grease on it upon return, the owner will go ballistic. "Please do a 30-day checkup" somehow means "please give my bike the 2-hour spa treatment for free, even though I don't love it enough to even apply chain lube". ;)

Not saying that all cyclists are like this, but there's a few out there....

No Becky, I have heard other customers complaining to managers about grease on bar tape or something trivial. When I had white bar tape I just didn't see it as anything to get my panties in a wad about.

Aggie... I think this bike has your name all over it!

Titus, you know, like all the cool kids ride! I have ridden a Juliana, it didn't rock my world. But then again, I like a true XC stance (none of this AM stuff, bleck!). The bike that really stopped me in my tracks, sky opened up, angels heard on high, was the Yeti ASR-SL. Totally blacked out, sub 25lb, from first crank I was in love. Too bad she was 4k...

I love all black bikes. Everything else makes my butt look fat. :)

Aggie: I bought a beautiful/sexy used Juliana... but all in midnight blue. I LOVE the blue. White -- no way! It would look good when you first get it, but after that there's no way I could keep up! But it's pretty muddy around here a lot of the time :(

I told C about that one, he said "Oh, I think I found $1800 in the couch cushions last night". Then he made some crack about me having a faster bike than him or yadda yadda. I don't think it would have a faster engine so it would probably still be slowwww. :p

Of course you are too tall for a WSD. I wonder if midget me might like a Juliana. I think anything would be better than my HT but shh don't tell her, kay?

Funny, this pretty much what DH said, too. All good for me to have a new bike, but a better/more expensive bike than him.... that just wasn't going to happen. Silly men!

Yeah, not only am I tall, but I have male proportions, too. I did ride the Juliana and the Superlight(male version) also. It wasn't the WSD, it was the 5inches of travel. I didn't like the upright-ish and on-top-ish feeling. But that is just me!

Isn't a mtb supposed to be...dirty? Seriously! My pink and white baby looks all the gnarlier when it has mud splattered all over her. I clean her off after every three rides or so- but I would if she were dark colored too. I do think it is sexy- white, pink...muddy. Sort of like a wet t-shirt/ mud pit contest. :p

What is mud? :p I see a lot of dust <<cough>>. Makes for a lot of drivetrain lubing.

Oh we get mud once every three years. But in fact it's raining right now. We all stay off the trails until they dry out. Just an occasional puddle here and there. Yeah, generally is is dry, dust, and sand which will eat up the transmission!

Hey Aggie - I love my Juliana. She is orange and my kids call her the flying pumpkin. This is my only WSD bike. My two road bikes are "man bikes".
I'm 5' 4".:)
