So my little brother has been sick ... he gets sick (he's one of those people who can't push-til-it's-over - it lays him up with mono or pneumonia or...) ...
... but it seems this time, it's "Wegener's granulomatosis" - he'd been hoping that he'd get something they could name after him when he was confounding them, at first. Seems prognoses are better than in the past - where 80% would die within a year - but the treatments are nasty and toxic. Here's hoping for strength...

all the best strength to your brother -
but usually, when a syndrome is named, it is named after (read: all the fame and glory goes to) the physician who publishes the paper, not the patient.:(

Much appreciated :) :)
His fiancee already refers to this as "the latest House episode." Hoping it has a good reconciliation.

Sue:
I currently work in paeds rheumatology (we deal with autoimmune disorders, not just "arthritis") and we've had a rash of Wegner's diagnosed within the last year. Age ranges from 6-17. Some have had a rocky course, others have done very well. The treatments are very toxic and not without side-effects.
I send you virtual strength and pray that your brother does well with his treatments.

He was doing so dreadfully Thurs and Fri that they started the steroids early... but he has improved greatly Sat. and today. Tomorrow he starts the chemo... really appreciate the thoughts. Five days of toxicity... here's hoping...

Geonz, my cuz went through this some years ago, when he was in his 20s, I think. He's been fine now for many years, so take heart as best you can while you're waiting...
