Great story! I just came in from a 34 mile ride. The high was in the teens. My toes got really cold, even with 2 pairs of socks inside and toe warmers outside.

I'm so impressed. I'd like to ride in the winter, but I'm too cold-blooded. Very impressive. :) Thanks for sharing the story.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I have acclimated to cold. I HATE feeling cold but I've really built up the ability to heat my core riding the bike. Saturday was unpleasant because I never got out for a real ride so I never warmed up - so eventhough I hadn't gotten into the cold, I felt colder than the days where I'm out in 11 below! My fingers were blue and I went to the warmest room in the house and cranked the space heater... whereas if I get out and do a ride, with a million layers, and keep the energy level up... I'm warm. But the layers only insulate the heat I make, so I have to get moving to make it...

You're right about warming up the core. It's my motivation for getting on the trainer. Even tho it's a torture device it gets me very warm and then I'm much warmer the rest of the evening. Riding outside, however, just makes me colder even if I make it a speedy workout. I want to learn to love (or even tolerate) the cold. :)

My commute is short compared to some of yours. I have managed to commute most all days. Today I rode in but my family could not deal with the wet and ice so I was picked up so they would feel better. I like winter because you warm up rather quickly.

Twin- would you have considered riding home in this today?????? You're one crazy lady. :) I divided up my class and left school at 1:30. Took me a little over an hour and a half to get home (normally takes about 30 min.). It was not terrible, but not ideal. I guess we get to enjoy a day off tomorrow. It'll hurt to make it up in May, but since we've been so lucky this winter, I guess it's part of it. Stay warm and stay safe out there! :)

At least the weather will be good in a couple of days! I do want to try my studded tires! You stay warm and dry and we will have much better weather soon.
