Here in the Southwest we finally have high temps of the low 50's!! There has been pleanty of sunshine. Yea!! It makes me sooo happy. I can't wait for warmer temps.
Not only that, I think my bike shop has been really busy. So people are out riding. The other is that the new arrivals for TE are spring and summer wear. It is so good to think that it will be coming.
Enjoy your rides:)

Hi Red Rock - talk about confusing! Yesterday we had sunny and dry 86 degrees - that's here in coastal California, famous for rather coolish and slightly foggy-ish summers. I went into the grocery store and saw beautiful brussels sprouts, and thought, gee, odd to see a winter vegetable now...then realized that now is winter! (It's a produce store 1 block from the beach with an open front - so it really felt like summer!) Our warm winter days are often nicer than anything we get here in the summer. Confusing - but in a nice way!Carol

We've had a very mild weather, more like spring for the past several weeks, to the point trees and shrubs are starting to bloom out. And now WINTER - or at least what passes for winter along the Gulf Coast. Have had frost on the lawn in the morning, day highs only in the low 50's. Bbrrrrrrr. I expect no sympathy from those that shovel snow.
Quit rubbing it in! It's supposed to be about 20 here with 20-30mph winds. Tomorrow we'll get a few inches of snow. Friday it will be in the teens with more, though not as strong, wind. I wore my riding tights for my walk from the train this morning. The wind block panels kept my legs happy.

I'm with NoNo. It's currently 17 here. The predicted HIGH temp on Friday is a whopping 6, or 2 in Maine where I will be. Yes, that's Faherheit, and yes, it's before the wind chill.
Don't mind us - we're just jealous :D

I'm not. I want some durn snow and unseasonably warm weather wrecks crops. I like my fruits and veggies. And I want to ski right now.
There. I said it.
Who wants to join me in a dance to the Snow Gods (of course to deliver snow only where appropriate - like not Seattle and Portland)?

I feel for you all on the East coast and New England. I was there for two winters during college and that was enogh for me so I moved back to the Southwest. I needed the sunshine and warm temps. I love the January thaw:).
Stay warm. I'll be sending warm thoughts to you all.
True about needing snow where we need it. The West just plain needs the water. As much as a I like the sun and everything that comes with it. The snow is just as necessary.

I rode around the meeting point for 10 minutes this morning waiting for someone else to show up, and finally wound up riding alone.
We used to have a saying in North Dakota: "40 below keeps the riff-raff out." Apparently around here, that's 40 above.
PS. I left North Dakota. Draw your own conclusions.

Gee, Lisa, I feel privileged. Our predicted high for Saturday is 20 and 28 for Sunday. But Friday.... a high of 10, with bad wind chill. I will be wearing all of my Ibex and my silk long underwear when I go to theatre Friday night.

Quit rubbing it in!
Then I guess you don't want to know that at 8am here (now) its 18'C/65'F, sunny and no wind... I'll go for a ride soon before the UHF "danger zone" gets here. Gonna be a pearler!

Actually, I'm a winter person. Next month, for no reason other than it's there, my car club is driving to Moosonee, Ontario. It's our annual Arctic drive, that in past years has brought us to Hudson Bay (east side), Labrador, and Newfoundland, always to the end of the paved road. It was -40 (which we found out was the same in C and F ) and I stood outside for an hour to watch the aurora. When my friend called last week to book the hotel, the manager said "You know that's February, right?" :D There's probably something wrong with me:p

I do. There's almost NO snow in the Sierras. In addition to the personal inconvenience of not being able to ski, this is bad for our water supply.

We have been having some nice warm temps here while the mountains have been getting hit hard with snow. Here at home the temps have been in the mid 50s and near 60 by Sunday. I just love it here.. go cross-country skiing in the morning with all the snow you could possibly need then drive down out of the mountains and put a pair of shorts on. :D

Lisa, I feel for you. I grew up in NY. Moved away about 12 years ago. I lived about 1 hour east of Buffalo. Talk about cold, snow and never seeing the sun in the winter. :(

I never thought I'd say:
"its great to be in Indiana in January!" rather than Minnesota!
At least it's a balmy -1 here right now!
This was my walk from the train this morning. The 3 inches of snow we were supposed to get overnight waited till the morning commute.

-12 here this morning on the way to work, the sky was crystal clear with the sun hitting the upper branches of the trees and the moon still showing brightly...it was beautiful.

We need to do it tonight before the moon wanes too much farther. Say, 10 pm with hot chocolate? Santa brought me some yummy irish cream stuff. Of course, it can have the real stuff added . . .
Hopefully, the neighbors won't be looking out their windows. :p

I feel for you all in the Midwest to East Coast with the cold temps.
As a side note, it has been very beautiful here. The last two days I have gone on rides/errands and its been in the mid 50's or higher. I am going to have to break out my knickers and short sleeve shirts soon. I was really sweating today.
Stay warm and good luck when your outdoors riding,
Red Rock
Um, -16 F here as I write this, actual temp. The wind has tapered off here so our windchill is only -28 right now, rather than the -40  we had last night and this morning. Our predicted actual temperature for this evening is -21.
Tomorrow we're going up to 9 degrees above 0. It'll be like Spring here too :)

Farmers on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain are having to cover the strawberry fields to save the crops due to the hard frosts for the past few nights that are supposed to continue for a few more days. I hope they don't loose their crops. Locally grown strawberries, yummmmm :D
I had heavy frost on my lawn this morning. All furry beasts preferred to stay inside thank-you-very-much. I can't convince them that they used to frolick in the snow.

Yet again there was no one else at the meeting point for our regular ride. It was 41°F. I was just as happy to get a nice slow short recovery ride, because my legs have been so fried, but what a bunch of weenies! I didn't say anything after Wednesday, but I had to tweak them today. ;)
EDIT: Just so I'd remember what I'm missing at home, a friend of mine in Ohio sent me this little poem:
Ohio Winter Poem
It's winter in Ohio.
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.
Oh, how I love Ohio
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Ohio
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!!
