I unintentionally took Christmas vacation off with my kids. I only rode about 3 times in two weeks. It's amazing (and a little depressing) how easily and quickly I fall back into my bad habits (eating and sleeping too much and not exercising enough).

I overslept today, but did at least get in a quick 6 mile ride before a morning appointment. I think I'm finally ready to get my butt back on track and say goodbye to a few (and I use that term loosely) pounds and inches! :D

It's waaaayyyy too easy to fall into bad habits (for me, anyway). Even though I was off all Christmas break long (I teach), I didn't work out nearly as much as I should have- considering I didn't have to work 7 hours a day. :)
Glad to hear you're back in the saddle (literally).

It is so hard when you take time off. I took a lot of vacation in December and found my motivation was tanked. I thought I would have more time but I felt like my days were so much shorter. I did get a lot of magical sleep though.

I had the opposite experience--for the three weeks before Christmas I didn't exercise even once (normally I work out during lunch breaks, but for those three weeks I was either running errands or going to looonnnnng meetings that lasted all afternoon so I just never took a break) so once Christmas was over I was back at it hard during the week I was off of work, trying to regain the ground I lost. It's amazing how quickly I lose my level of fitness when I stop exercising like that. So I spent the week after Christmas riding, running and doing pilates. It'll still be a while before I'm back to where I was (getting old sucks) but it felt so good to not have to go to work each day so that I could actually put time into my workouts!

Like sfa, I am finding my Christmas Vacation (its not over yet - I don't go back to work til Feb 4th!) more productive bike-wise, and had my biggest month ever in my personal 'history' of cycling, clocking up 771km on the road (not including mountain bike/spin).

Shooting for a big January too... but the days are sooooo hot...

I don't feel so bad now since I'm not the only one. :)

I feel good this week to be getting back on track. Rode 13 miles today and at least half of it was riding against 15-20 mph winds and gusts ~ totally kicked my booty, but I felt so invigorated afterward!! After taking my monthly measurements this morning, I most definitely have to get (and stay) back on track! I gained about 1/4" last month, or I was just bloated this morning... Hard to tell which one, but I'm using it as motivation to keep on track!

Sarah, I second your comment "it sucks!" It just doesn't seem fair that what takes months gain, takes only days or weeks to lose. If only my weight were the same way... <sigh>
