So how are you celebrating/observing the coming of 2009? And on Jan. 1st?

Unlike last year where we were at a ski resort (snowshoeing) and having a meal, we're at home. He is preparing our New Year's Eve meal..he insists on prepping it. I'm just recovering from cold, tryin' to remember to breathe properly and not collapse into uncontrolled cough jags.

Our meal tonight will be: bison marinated in abit of soy sauce, maple syrup, fresh herbs with onion, garlic and ginger. Little purple potatoes on side. There maybe a wee lump of goat cheese on side. With stirfried cauliflower with mushrooms, onions and garlic. Dessert will be pear tartes from a French bakery.

I will be drinking lots of tea.

We will watch last finale comedy episode of Royal Canadian Air Farce.

And tomorrow I haven't a clue what I'm doing since am just living each day.

Every year since my kids were born, I've made them each a Christmas ornament with the idea that they will eventually take them when they have their own homes and put up a tree. So far they've been coming here for Christmas, so the ornaments go up on our tree.

Somehow, I got way behind - six years behind. Hmmm...six years coincides with when I began cycling in earnest. Somehow all my interest funneled into riding and I sort of lost interest in crafts for awhile. Tonight I'm starting to play catch up and will stick with it in the evenings over the next few weeks until I'm done.

We may watch a movie or two. I can't stand the New Years Rockin' Eve stuff on TV.

If I'm not coughing too much tomorrow, I may go for walk on the Coyote Creek Trail.

Wishing you all many happy and safe miles in 2009.

Lee & I are hanging out at home tonight. We'll watch tv, play Scrabble, make tea, and will probably turn in waaay before midnight. We are the most boring people on earth.

Tomorrow, I'll go out for a ride.

Shrimp tonight, hoppin' john tomorrow and a town ride on the Mariposa.
The dogs are party poopers; they refuse to wear party hats and horn blowing is a physical impossibility.

Nothing different for tonight, but I will go spinning in the morning, plus my husband always makes black-eyed peas flavored with smoked ham hocks on New Year's Day, his family tradition. Happy New Year everyone!

We went into the city to watch a movie (The Day the Earth stood still - in IMAX format. B minus, I think.) Anyway, I was glad to be getting the heck out of dodge by the time we left. There were SFPD EVERYWHERE. Crazy - like they were bracing for Armageddon. I have never seen so many police - cop cars lining the streets.

Glad to be safely home. Happy new year everyone!

Klaatu barada ixnay on remakes. We watched the original Solaris on DVD from NetFlix, cracked a bottle of nice California blanc de blancs and stepped out onto the porch to watch a few bottle rockets at midnight. It's been a while since we spent New Year's Eve at home "just the two of us and the Internet," but after parties on the 24th, 26th and 27th, we're partied out. :p

My sweet partner is on call at the hospital tonight, but it was quiet enough for me to go visit. We walked out of the hospital for sushi and enjoyed a few quiet moments together.

I left somewhat early, I didn't want to be caught in the frenzy approaching midnight.

I will be at home with some work to do - 2009 is the year when I finish my dissertation - and perhaps a glass of sparkling wine at midnight. :)

Our LBS had their annual open house for NYE. We went, met with a bunch of the regulars, had some pasta and vino, left with more food than we brought (leftovers), and were in bed by 11:30. I did briefly open my eyes and noticed it was 12:02. Darn! Missed it. :p
The group is doing the annual New Year's ride to Haines Point in D.C. today...but DH and I opted to sleep in, eat some of those left over muffins, and maybe we'll head out later when/if it warms up some.
Happy New Year everyone. May 2009 fill your home with health, love, and happiness.

We had a snow storm yesterday as well as temperature dips into the single digits which cut down on a lot of people going out (me included). So it was me and the fur babies with a Chinese food delivery and the Twilight Zone marathon on tv.

Today it's still in the single digits (it's warmed up to 5F, woo hoo!) but sunny.
Took Chloe for her morning walk but I think her foot pads were starting to freeze (she began limping halfway into it) so we headed back for home. Might be an indoor day today as well.

Oakleaf - I do want to see the original. Sounds like it was a lot better from a review I read on the NY Times. Isn't that always the case? I have to say, though, that the preview for the new Star Trek looked pretty good.... :D

Since 1999/2000 eve when all my partner's clan gathered together to see in the so-called millenium (although it was "officially" a year later, I have heard tell), I have gone to bed every NY eve and if I was still awake at midnight depended on how hot the night was (hehehe, or how frisky I was feeling).

However, this year (last year?) New Years Eve was spent with all my children home (2 have left home, 1 is about to leave home, and only 2 will be at school in 2009) watching silly movies, and then walking up our very big hill which at the top gives views of the central mountain ranges to the west (although not at night cause my night vision is not that great) and cities to the west and southwest.

I had made my grandmother's recipe choc-chip cookies, and we ate those at midnight as we watched the fireworks displays, and marvelled also at the way the night sky is at night time when you are fortunate enough to live in the country.

And for those of you who saw 2009 in snow... I had to take my sweat-shirt off, the night was that of a truly warm Summer

We were with friends last night and brought in the New Year in a hot tub with champagne. :) Today, after a bike ride, we'll watch the Penn State game and then DS25 will be over with his DGF for fillet mignon, potatoes and a salad.

We got a bunch of cheeses and pates and had a blast watching "That's Entertainment Pt. III". Nice way to spend New Year's Eve.

PS Cyd Charisse had the best legs on the face of the earth.

BF and I drove to Tenn to surprise my parents (they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary yesterday). Today is my birthday (47th) so I was able to spend the day with my parents, my oldest sister and her husband and my guy - what a great birthday. Lots of good food, laughter, and love - can't ask for a better birthday and start to 2009.
