Oh yea! The snow has finally melted away here in western Washington. The sun is out and I can see blue sky! But now that the snow is gone I see a lot of sand, dirt, silt, and rocks along the shoulders of many of the roads I drove on this morning. Not good for cyclists!

I was watching the evening news last night and saw a report about the Portland area. How they are already out sweeping the streets. I wish my town/county would do the same. Maybe they know something I'm afraid to think about. That we haven't seen the last of the white stuff; that they are holding off sweeping the shoulders and streets until late March or early April? Browsing through my photo albums I noticed that the last major snow fall last winter/spring was March 26th 2008! I have the pictures to prove it! Sigh, I guess it's going to be spin class and the local bike trails for a while longer. Hope to get out this week sometime.

Staff safe everyone!

Yeah, the roads here are all sandy, too. The other day, I got a face full as the wind blew it right up at me.

My advice is to watch for thick piles (slippery), and rinse your bike frequently. I've been using a watering can with good, fast results.

yes, piles of sand everywhere with pieces of broken car chains littering it as well. There appears to be less glass though!

We have lots of small gravel. It's as bad as the ice. I nearly slipped in it walking. I don't think I could stop my bicycle at the bottom of our hill in all these rocks. And now rain on top of that--why did I leave Mississippi????
