Silver and I aren't doing presents...we respectively indulged ourselves abundantly throughout this year...and enough is enough. Family and Friends this Christmas!
Rather than the nine foot tree we put out our own little Charlie Brown Christmas tree this year.

Our Christmas is still about 18 hours away but due to the local weather - I don't think I'll have anything to open! Stupid snow. ;)
We did cut back significantly though...and we decided to purchase one big gift of something we really needed instead of lots of crap that we don't. It hasn't shipped yet, but we are getting a greenhouse. :D

I can't wait! I think dbf and I are going to open present(s?) in a little while. Then tomorrow, my brother and my friend will come over, so we'll do more then. The best of both worlds ;)
I mostly like the act of opening the present. It's just too much fun watching the kitten tear around at the paper, then fall asleep in the mess.

Merry Christmas!
Awe... I LOVE that Charlie Brown xmas tree! I haven't had a real live xmas tree in so many years. DMIL said DH was allergic as a child, so we had "one" first year of marriage then fake ones since for many years *sigh*. Late DF used to drive the fm out of town to cut down a tree. Always a ton of snow. He'd tie it to the car roof top. Fall off at least once on the way home. DF and DM would fight trying to get the *&^% thing straight in the stand. THEN, about the time is was straight, nicely decorated... the cat would climb the tree and crash it. Ahhh... what GREAT:rolleyes: memories:p... whaaa, I wanna Charlie Brown tree:(. OH... and if Santa's listening, I wanna kitty too:D.
I got a new desk, beautiful plantation style storage unit, flat screen monitor, and a vintage bird painting.
It looks like i got a cat, too.
I was very generous to myself this year :D
Except for the cat.
OH... and if Santa's listening, I wanna kitty too:D.
Santa delivered to the wrong house

I got myself a self-esteem boost.
The exbf always took care of my car and troubles if there were any. So the other day when a friend told me my headlight was out, I immediately felt sick to my stomach... thinking exbf is no longer in my life.... and how I was always so excited to have him do these things for me... and I think he liked doing them too :( (disclaimer... but then who knows... since I apparently didn't know him "all" that well obviously)
So I asked my brother to help me... that was two days ago:rolleyes:
Tonight I said "screw it" and downloaded instructions from the web... and thought "hmmmmmmmm, can I do this?"... and "thought only one way to find out"... and went to my garage and yep... success... changed it myself:D:D:D

Gifts will be exchanged tomorrow and I'm sure I'll be pleased as punch but again nothing will replace the time I've been able to spend with those I love this past week. I'm so blessed.

Oh, I must have been a very good girl this year! I got an Ibex full zip shak, a biography of Marco Pantani, and the new Aimee Mann cd which I didn't even know about! Woo-hoo!! I love them all!
We swapped gifts last night (we'll meet up with the family later to exchange with them). My honey got me the coolest HRC sweatshirt (http://hrccornerstore.myimagefirst.com/store/product.asp?sku=130-31-1975-07&id=590&mscssid=BWDSP8LX5KA08HHVR520MRADD1KD2QKC)! And an itunes card...fun!

Off work in 4 hours.... then I get to rush home to wake up the household and open gifts! I think a friend was going to drop off cinnamon rolls to bake in the morning (feeling sorry for us cuz I'm working I think!).
I made home-made dog biscuits all day on Wednesday to give to the neighbors and friends. Can't wait to go distributing! I made Cheese ones, Peanut Butter and Oatmeal, and Sweet Potato and 7 grain cereal biscuits. All were made with whole wheat and eggs and olive oil. It was kind of fun. And my dog was SO happy to get to be the guinea pig and taste them all! She approves!
Merry Christmas all! :D

Well we haven't visited my parents who always go over board  but DH did pretty good:
A day trip to the Fort Worth Zoo last Friday- I love the zoo and this was a pretty good one!
LED head lamp so I don't have to carry a flash light when I need to find the potty at a dark campsite. :)
Two CD's- Weezer's Red Album and the new Kings of Leon if you care
He got:
Tifosi Phototec Sunglasses (dolomite style)
Spokelits for his commuter bike
A bell for his mountain bike
His parents got us REI gift cards, new sheets (which we can actually use but need to exchange the color), pocket knives and a Carem board game.

I got these from my honey
http://www.sportyjewels.com/i/30X_2.jpg
also a new hand mixer and clear lenses for my Thump Pro sunglasses.
My in-laws gave me Yoga for Triathletes ver. 3.0.
We bought a refrigerator for the car. Eventually it will go into the van - when we get it. :)
I got Thom a video game he wanted, a book on designing camper vans and new bike shoes.
Curly Cat visited again this morning and is his usual friendly self.
Cassie Cat and Tucker Cat had much fun playing with the wrappings. Tucker has decided that he should fit in a very small box. NOT!!!!!
I called my mom and she actually sounded happy for a change. At Thanksgiving I took her to the water aerobics class for old people that her doctor really wanted her to go to. She did NOT want to go. She's been twice more, it's a once a week class, and she loves it! She had a doctor appointment yesterday and she's lost a couple pounds and her blood pressure is better. When I went with her to her appointment at Thanksgiving the doctor told her she was borderline diabetic. So I'm hopeful that she is getting serious about taking better care of herself now.

A sinus headache from the lovely boquet of flowers I bought myself. Note to self: lilies and peonies must only be admired from afar, and NEVER NEVER inside, ever again. :(
Some nifty-cool art-glass plant self watering globes - so my house plants have decoration, and they're pretty too.
Was hoping for bike goodies from my brother who's a cyclist, but nope - got two Christmas ornaments instead from Mount Vernon. I wonder if someone else in the family is wondering why they got something cycling related, since I'm wondering why I got two very similar things.
Apparently my other presents will be New Year's presents. I live a long way away from most of my family and know that some hasn't been shipped yet. So I get to look forward to more goodies on my porch in the future.

DH and I made a deal to not spend much this year on gifts to each other, and to give things that can be consumed or are practical.
I got some wonderful pillar candles, some heavy winter gloves (I suspect, since they have not actually arrived yet in the mail), and a box of my favorite hand dipped chocolate covered cherries from the local chocolate shop in town. :p
Neither of us really need any new bike stuff.

My bf got me a kite buggy, since he's been teaching me to kite surf and it's a few hours drive to any piece of water big enough.
My older brother got me a beautiful big tripod, so it's time for me to get into macro or night photography to do that justice.

I feel very Scroogy this morning. I talked to my friends-family about cutting back this year, buying only small gifts or giving money to charity instead.
Apparently, my F/F concluded that I was destitute and feeling sorry for me, bought me mountains of stuff!!! (I won't list them, but let's just say it was worth the GNP of a small country)
I felt kinda bad sitting amidst a landfill of gifts, while the recipients of mine just got cards with a note saying, "Merry Christmas! A donation has been made in your name to..."

My BF and I exchanged gifts and had such a nice time. I also received a great garden planner notebook, Cesar Millan CD on dog training, and a topo map jigsaw puzzle of the area where I live. Great geography lesson.
I also got, from my dog, Every Woman's Guide to Cycling by Selene Yaeger. Very good 8-week century training schedule which I will start in January to prepare for my trip to Arizona in March with the Bike Friday (ooh!)

I bought a new gas range to replace my 20 year old one. And then my faucets in the bathroom started to leak and had the plumbers out to replace it. After a few well placed hints - ok, I went to the TE website and showed my DH what I wanted - I got a Biker chick jersey and some sockguy socks! Just what I wanted! Maybe that will motivate me to get off my behind and ride that bike. I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather, but some friends and I have been talking about doing a Frostbite Ride in early February, and that is not going to happen if we don't do some riding between now and then.

I already had my Christmas present a couple of months ago, a lovely new laptop, purely out of necessity, I mean, who can live without a 'puta these days!
So, I was more than excited when I received a super new mobile, an LG Shine...........and shine it does.
My other all time favourite present was a really unusual cat ornament although it can be used for hanging jewellery on it, bought by my little 6 year old Grandson, he chose it himself, so of course I absolutely love it. :)

Well, I got something that I've wanted for more than 20 years, and when I told my mom what it was, she said dh should NEVER get me appliances for Christmas! It is a Kitchenaide stand mixer, and I was happy to get it! It is a luxury...a vacuum cleaner is a necessity, but a fancy stand mixer is a gift!
But the best gift I got was totally unexpected and a big surprise. My son managed to hunt down a copy of the Barenaked Ladies' "yellow tape", which WAS the only recording of theirs I didn't have. i screamed like a little girl!

Santa brought me one too. For 35 years I've been using the old Sunbeam hand mixer I bought while in college. I made one batch of homemade fruitcakes last month, and it was making really worrisome noises so I bit the proverbial bullet and went out and bought the Kitchen Aid.
OMG! Why ever did I wait 35 years?????? The difference and ease with which that machine masters heavy doughs and batters in just incredible. I whipped out heavy fruitcake, batter, endless batches of cookies, and even cranberry bread in record time. Of course space is a huge problem in my kitchen and now that I'm done with baking for many months, need to figure out where to put it. It IS heavy... but worth the hassle of having to move it around.
I think my trusty old hand mixer will be resting very quietly for a long, long time. I

Yup, I am lucky I kept begging for one and only had a to wait about 3 years to receive. It handles my sugar cookie dough (thick and hard) with ease. Cheesecakes, cakes, cookie dough, pie filling, it just laughs at whatever I throw at it. I love that I put the cake mix in, turn it on and go grease and flour the pan then be ready to pour. I don't ever move it but to clean, I am thankful for the clear counter space to leave it on.

Oh, I just couldn't in my own mind justify the cost of the thing! But I salivated over all my girlfriends' mixers. I went on Consumer Reports, and the Classic appeared to be the best value (do I really need a meat grinder attachment?--no), and hey, you can't miss what you never had.
My friend has one that has to be 40 years old, and it's basically the same as mine. (Passed down to her by a grandparent.) They bought attachments on ebay over the years and that thing's never going to quit.
Karen
In past Christmases I've asked for and received the Kitchenaid stand mixer and food processor, as well as a real restaurant-style Belgian waffle maker. I use them all the time, but never would have gone and bought them myself. The waffle maker is required at all family functions as waffle sundaes are a long-time tradition. Everyone loves it, says they want one, but never get it. Maybe they should ask for one:p

My mom got the Artisan because it is what Bed Bath and Beyond had and she had a 20% off coupon and $50 rebate at the time. :p Can't blame her for being thrifty those puppies are not cheap! My friend deer hunts and uses the grinder to process his own meat. If pasta weren't so dang cheap I would like the pasta attachment.
I got an electric wine opener for Christmas that is the coolest thing since sliced bread. I got to use it this weekend and that is one amazing gadget. Kitchen appliances are always a good gift for me. I have received a food processor, gizmo can opener, electric wine opener, an iron, cookie cutters (100 pack), cookie sheets, springform pans, an apron all for Christmas. I like to cook so they are perfectly appropriate!
Ah, the Kitchen Aid. I've dropped the hint here and there, but DH thinks I have to choose it....so it will not be a gift. And I am too thrifty to pay that kind of money for a kitchen appliance for myself....it's not made of carbon faster and will not make my ride faster! heh
DH spoiled me, aslways. 2 pairs of very different slippers, custom jewelry in both types I like - recycled bike parts and semi-precious stones, CD's (we got each other the same CDs, even - Tool and Nine Inch Nails, but even the same releases!!), books about bike training, eating for bike training, and a martini recipe book, martini glasses :D, a sexy little black dress, a sexy chinese robe, a sheepskin handbag, leopard spot wallet gloves and scarf, the Dean Koontz book I wanted - my goodness, I'm sure I missed some things!! He was thrilled with his gifts, too, even liking the hoodie, and loving the bib shorts, bib tights, and the new tires for his road bike. I LOVE seeing that reaction!
And, of course, our house is overflowing with chocolate and assorted goodies! Yikes!
and then we did some boxing day shopping - he had to buy a new laptop since his died on Christmas day, and I found a beautiful leopard print Pashmina scarf (now adorning the bed) and a gorgeous buddha carving to hang in my zen den. All were on sale! :o
We've barely used the ipod nano from last Christmas, but he got me new earphones that fit the ear better, and he's got the new laptop, so I'm loading and copying CDs today. Hard to say which ones to leave out - we have hundreds of CDs to choose from!!!
And, yes, whoever said it, I really enjoy opening gifts!! The anticipation is so fun! And *anything* wrapped up is exciting.
Hugs and butterflies,

Ooooh, I love my KA stand mixer but I rarely use it as such (only for pie crusts). I use the PTO for saucing tomatoes and apples, and running the pasta maker.
DO NOT try use the strainer attachment to seed raspberries though. The seeds are just the right/wrong size that they will jam it like you would not have believed possible. The whole thing will stop turning and you'll be lucky to get the attachment off. You have been warned.
I can't remember the last time I used a mixer for anything but I've always admired the design of the KA mixer.
I hope everyone got theirs in red . They should be red for proper zazz.

Hard to say which ones to leave out - we have hundreds of CDs to choose from!!!
Rip them all. If you don't have enough room on your internal hard drive, storage is cheap, and you can locate your default iTunes library on an external drive.
Then create playlist(s) small enough to sync to your iPod. You can include "date last played" as a criterion so songs scroll off your iPod playlist once they've been played. And you can specifically size-limit a playlist and tell iTunes how to sort songs into it.
I've got a large portion of my own library ripped in duplicate at two different bit-rates: hi-res for archival purposes and streaming over the Squeezebox, and lower res for the iPod. But that is a PITA.

Not only did I get all my Kitchenaid appliances (and pots and pans and knives and utensils:p) in red, but I painted my kitchen to match:

Ooooh, me like!
My mixer is white like all my other appliances. I didn't pick the color, but he knew what would match every single other appliance. I buy white appliances so I can paint my kitchen whatever color I please. Plus, I have a really old Victorian house, so I can't go too modern or kitschy with color. IOW appliances are too modern for my house!

Bravo NoNo! That is a really eye catching kitchen. Mine is a nice sage green, I love it but I got the mixer when I was still an apartment dweller so black is versatile.

I'm in an apartment (well renting in a 3 family house). I asked if I could paint, my landlord said yes. Then he saw the paint cans and had second thoughts, but it was too late by then!:D Because the kitchen flows into the dining/living room, I had to pick a color that would go with the red:

Well, I got something that I've wanted for more than 20 years, and when I told my mom what it was, she said dh should NEVER get me appliances for Christmas! It is a Kitchenaide stand mixer, and I was happy to get it! It is a luxury...a vacuum cleaner is a necessity, but a fancy stand mixer is a gift!
I got a stand mixer last year. Yes, a most excellent gift. I love the how nicely it kneads the dough for cinnamon rolls. :D

You are going to love that ipod Touch. I have one (purchased through Amazon and Audible's $100 off if you join for a year) It's about my 6th ipod and definitely my favorite. You can get lots of good advice from ilounge and there are some great books out there. Itunes is really easy and you can do lots of things with it. You can load anything, you just have to know how. Some people think that you are really limited with itunes, but you aren't. cds, mp3s, audiobooks, they all work. With the touch I purchased some apps like Yahtzee, Scrabble, Weather and a few others that are nice, and right now I'm downloading Mythbusters for my physics students. Just hook the ipod up to the TV and watch an episode. With a lot of restaurants and fast food places putting in WiFi, you can access the net and email on the road!
As for the Cardinals...That will teach them. They should have stayed here in St. Louis!

I got SUCH a cool thing. My spouse made up a little coupon book of fun stuff for us to do during the next year, one coupon per month. Some of it is stuff we do, some is stuff we've talked about wanting to do but haven't gotten around to yet. He used pictures to depict each of the things---a hiking pic of the two of us at Mt. Rainier this past September for a day hike coupon; a pic of the Wooden Boat Center for a sailing coupon....that kind of stuff. He's just so cool.
