Yes! I did notice, and it put a big crimp in my plans.

I bought season 1 of the original "Star Trek" series for my brother last year, planning on getting him season 2 this year. Well, 2 is no longer available. They've issued a new remastered version, but I really wanted the one that goes with the set I already started.

So, I went to Ebay, where I found one copy of season 2, for $200 (Buy it now)! Just nuts! He's getting something else.

A lot of the sets are of shows still on. I don't get it.

We do netflix for that reason. But I did notice that Barnes & Noble had a lot of them 40% off....

I have a Borders rewards card and they send me regular emails with their specials, coupons, etc. They sometimes offer 40% off of boxed set DVDs. I got most seasons of Buffy for 40% off as a result.

Our netflix is about $15 a month for 2 at a time. Blockbuster is about $4.50 per DVD. So...I think we're coming out OK.

I may suspend it come summer, though. I'll watch less TV.

I suppose you have tried http://www.playusa.com/

I use www.play.com over here in England and find it generally good value, especially as they do not charge postage.

In fact I just ordered 4 cd's and it totalled to about $20!

Nope - hadn't tried it!

The beauty of netflix (for me) is borrow and return - no more cruft around the house. Shipping (except around the holidays) is usually 1 day each way (so if I put one in the mail Monday, I'd have a new one Wednesday), and the DVD's have all been good condition. I've never had to wait on one....Anything else you want to know, Divadump?
