I grew up shooting pool must admit it has been 20 years since I held a cue and I'm a bit rusty on the rules of 8 ball (specifically what happens when you scratch). I need a refresher course .

a. If you scratch do you pull a ball you have already pocketed and return it to the table? Your opponent receives a "ball in hand" correct?

b. If you scratch and sink one of your balls on the same shot are you suppose to return the ball to the table (point at which the one ball would go when breaking) and your opponent receives a "ball in hand" correct?

As you can see I'm not spending a lot of time on my bike during these cold, wet days. This will probably come back to haunt me in March when the season starts but hey what's a girl to do? Shoot pool?

I thought the opponent got to place the cue ball behind the little dot and shoot from there.
I don't think I've ever played any of the ways you outlined but that doesn't mean I'm right :o

I have no idea if my cousin taught me correctly or not, but we always played that if you scratched and pocketed a ball then you have to take out the ball you sunk. I'm pretty sure that's right.
