We are going on vacation beginning February 14th - we were thinking about SanFrancisco, but understand its the 'rainy' season and may not be the best time to visit. My partner started talking about Florida, particularly Key West, I've been to Walt Disney World before, it doesn't really appeal to her. Any recommendations on Florida - Key West or actually any place warm or at least warmer than Michigan???? Thanks

I've never been to the Keys, but I've thought about going... all I have to say is that mid-February is peak season, so make your reservations NOW if you want to go, and be ready for sticker shock.

Do you like to sail, or have any interest in learning? Annapolis Sailing School (http://www.annapolissailing.com/tampabay.php) has a branch in St. Pete. They have two-day courses for all levels including complete beginners, and a five-day course for people with more experience. A group of us did the five-day course back about 20 years ago and had a blast. It's not warm like the Keys this time of year though.

Really it depends on what qualifies as "warm enough" for you. If you want to get a tan, swim in an unheated pool or in the ocean without a wetsuit, etc., you'll need to go to south Florida. If highs in the low 60s are good enough, then you can look a bit north.

I've never been to the Orlando theme parks (on the agenda for this year), but FWIW if you want to repeat, I've been told that Universal Studios is more impressive than Disney World, just because it's so much newer. My own area (east central) is pretty low-key.

My honey and I go to Key West every year for vacation, we typically stay in "family" guest houses and spend a week eating amazing food, relaxing, shopping, and going on some fantastic excursions. It can be a little expensive if you're going during high season but it is sooooo worth it!

Pax, we were thinking about 'family' places. Is there a mix - men and women or mainly men? Where did you stay? Thanks for the info.

We've stayed at a mixed place (very upscale with lots of pampering) and an all womens place, also very nice but not quite as swanky. If you'd like some more info just send me a PM and we can chat there.
