Bike Friday Tikit

Does anybody have one of these? If so, what do you think of it? Like it/love it/o.k. but not as good as _______ - ?

I'm looking at this as a commuter/errand bike. I've seen their online demo and like the way it folds and unfolds quickly, like the idea of being able to take it inside the grocery story, etc. instead of locking it outside, like the idea of carrying it on the bus or in the trunk of a car, etc. I've read a few reviews but would be curious to know if anyone here has one.

I have a different Friday (the Pocket Crusoe) and love it (mostly).

Have you contacted Friday? They can usually refer you to people locally who have one (and I'll probably get to see one at a demo in early January).

If I still lived in DC and commuted by bike and Metro, I would get a Tikit. I have a different Bike Friday (Pocket Rocket Pro) and I love it. The ticket would be perfect for my old winter commute--ride 14 miles in the am and take the Metro back in the pm when it was dark.

I agree-call Bike Friday and ask some questions.

CA, if you get to see the Tikit I'd be curious to know what you think of it - that is, if you can get a real impression at a demo. I've never actually seen a folding bike in person. I'm just soaking it all in from the posts I've read here on TE and the video and other info on the Bike Friday website.

One of the bike dealers in town has one (he sells them) He likes them for short jaunts and errands, but not for much more. For example, he said he took his to Interbike, where he always ends up parking in the boondocks, rode his Tikit from the car to the interbike, then was able to stash it with someone there. He says it's not a super comfortabe bike, but it is super handy when you need something like that. Tokie

I didn't get to ride the tikit at the demo yesterday, but did get to see it fold. It's very quick - and it does form a compact package - unlike my Friday (which requires a bag to stay in 1 piece).

There were a couple of people there that have them - and they said up to 20 miles would be OK, and that they climb really well. They also have a preference for the less expensive model (where the fold is more manual). They said the other one wasn't as secure-feeling when riding.

From the video demo, I was leaning towards the model with the levers thinking they looked more secure. I don't think I'd trust riding a bike that snapped into place with no levers or tightening. Not too surprised to hear they're more of a short ride workhorse.
