So, is anyone else starting to think about which races to enter next year? I was looking at the iron girl in LV Nevada (olympic distance) on 5/9/09 and thinking about the Boise ID HIM on 6/13/2009. What is everyone else thinking of doing? It would be fun to have a big TE contingent at some tri somewhere... it would be fun to put faces to on-line names :)

I'm planning on the Auburn Tri on 5/31 (I think), Olympic Distance. The first weekend in Aug. I'll be doing Barb's Race, that's a HIM. I'll probably do some of the local Tri for Fun and Tri for Real races, but they will be fit in around summer vacation plans.

If you'd like a sporting vacation, you can always come down to Australia & do some events.

There's a 1/2 IM in May 09 on a very flat & beautiful course in Busselton here in Western Australia. December is normally when the IM is held :)

Now THAT would be a vacation Alpine and crazy canuck!

I want to do the Fargo 1/2 marathon in May and the Bismarck Tri in June (we shall see how running and training go. I may shoot for the Oly distance this year. We have the state prairie rose games in July but I don't know if I will swim or do a tri this year

I've been looking and planning next year's schedule for many weeks now. The only thing that's locked in so far is that I'll be doing the swim as part of an Iron Girl relay team. 7Rider will do the bike and I recruited a runner from Beginner Triathlete. In addition to this I'm planning on 2 or 3 sprints and my first olympic.

Okay this is what 2009 looks like for us...

Chain of Lakes Triathlon May 2 Alexandria
Fargo Marathon (full) May 9 Fargo (duh)
Liberty Triathlon (HIM distance) June 13 Independence (iffy)
Graniteman Triathlon July 12 St. Cloud
Chisago (HIM) July 26 Chisago Lakes
Northwoods Triathlon August 8 Nevis
*Young Life Triathlon (Olympic) August 15 Detroit Lakes
Lakes Country Triathlon August 23 Baxter
****-Beardsley 1/2 September Detroit Lakes
Burrito Union (10hr. Tri) September 12 Superior,Wi

There are a few races we may have to drop in there for recovery time from other tris and my work schedule. (Unfortunately tris are on wknds. just like weddings & I'm a wedding photographer)

I'm leaning toward the Chisago 70.3 instead of the Liberty because it's later in the season and I will have more time to get some solid training in before it. We'll probably only do one of those and shoot for as many Olympic distances amonst the other tris as possible.

Really hoping to make the Burrito Union. It's as many sprint distances you can fit into 5 or 10hrs. You just do the loop over and over. And the run portion is a trail-run. Woohoo!

:D Okay, I'm going to ignore that list for the rest of the day. It looks a little crazy at this point. lol.

This is what I want to do but I need to negotiate with my partner:

Kinetic Sprint Triathlon, May 10
Tour de Cure, 50 miler or metric, June 7
Philly Women's Sprint Triathlon, July 12
North East Olympic Triathlon, August 16
Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon, Relay swimmer, August 23

I'd also consider an April duathlon, another sprint in September or October, or a duathlon in October. I could also sprinkle in a 5k here or there.

I have the disney marathon in January and the New Orleans Half Ironman in April! DH and I are planning a cross country cycling trip on our own over our summer break (both of us are teachers). That seems like so much, I haven't even thought farther than that!

It would be fun to have a big TE contingent at some tri somewhere... it would be fun to put faces to on-line names :)

Even a relatively large TE contingent at regional races would be cool. Maybe we could pick a few tris, rides, or runs to rally around. I think there are some cities/regions where there really are decent contingents of TE members.

The only race I'm signed up for right now is Ironman Coeur d'Alene. :p I know what comes with that will be a prep Olympic/HIM-distance, and following that is... I don't know.

I will probably do a couple/few sprints if I make it through everything injury-free. I would like to do an Olympic distance local race in August, but I am usually traveling that weekend, which sucks. I'm not sure I'm ready to add a HIM after IM, even if it's 4-6 weeks, which is kind of the only other local option. The Boise 70.3 is within traveling distance for me, but is really bad timing. Lake Stevens 70.3 is in August, but I think the same weekend as some sprints.

I think I'm going to take it easy on my hip and shoulder and skip a marathon this year, just slide into IM base training in January and recover. I'll race a half-marathon before IM, aside from training, and hope to return to the full marathon next fall.

In the meantime... I do hope to lose some weight during base training, I know I look more fit but still carry extra baggage. I would love to focus on my running, but I think I need to watch closely over the next 6-8 weeks and see how things go. Quality over quantity is the rule :)

Colby: I lookesd at Coeur d'Alene last year ... don't they have a separate Olympic from the Ironman weekend? I bagged it due to work schedules last year, but it sounds like a great one. Have you done it before?

Urlea: WHAT A SCHEDULE!!!!!! Wow. I WISH I had that many weekends free! Not to mention that kind of energy! Go Girl!

You all are motivating me.... I'll have to start marking weekends off the calendar at work!

I will sit down with my coach in January to plan out the summer. Sprint Du's with a couple of runs thrown in for fun.

Yes - they do. It's the 1st or 2nd week of August, around the 10th sometime? http://www.cdatriathlon.com/

For the last 4 or 5 years, we've had a conference we attend for work the week before and we don't return until that Sunday. Bah! I've heard from other people that have done it and they like it.

The same people put on the Coeur d'Alene Marathon, I believe. That race is fairly well organized - it's not huge, but you can find everything, and the people are decent. (The shirts for that sucked last year, though, it was a technical shirt but made by a different company and they fit everyone wrong, tall or short, male or female, more than usual)

Swim is a beach start and the water should be a decent temperature by then. The bike definitely has hills (and no drafting) - the yellow section is very pretty, but not flat, and often one direction or the other has wind coming off the lake. The blue/red section does at least go up a hill, but I'm not really familiar with that area. The run is flat, though. :) A cyclist's triathlon? ;)

Thanks, Colby. Hmmm a flat run would be AWESOME! I don't mind the biking on hills at all (of course, I say that before attempting to run afterwards ). That looks like a LONG swim to me, especially since I haven't been to the pool in months! Maybe I should start up again NOW!
