Border collie mixed with who knows what. Papillon definitely comes to mind, but the mechanics of that union baffles me. Perhaps Australian Cattle dog (he has a bark like one--kindof high pitched).
Hahahah!! Batman dog! I love it. I could call him Bruce.
He's 3 years old and very well trained. He's my first dog since I was in high school, so he knows alot more than I do. I got him from a Border Collie rescue organization. He's a good watchdog, too.
The name he came with is Shadow, but I wanted to change it for various reasons. He already REALLY knows his name, so I couldn't call him Luke (or Bruce) or something completely different. It was either Shiloh or Chicago.
Whoo-hoo!!

I'm a cat person, but I gotta admit that's a good lookin' dog. Good for you on adopting a dog that needs a home badly.
Tulip, you look so different with your hair down! :D

Shiloh is adorable. He looks like Mr Personality Plus! Since you say he is smarter than you are perhaps he can teach you a few tricks. He seems very content and happy. I predict you two will become best friends. :)

What a handsome fella Shiloh is!! Yep, looks mostly border collie to me. And I have known several over the years - let me guess - he has LOTS of energy, right? They are so smart and fun! Congrats on your new buddy!!

Awe, what a sweetie. I love animals.
I had to get my yellow lab put down this summer. Even though she was gentle, her big dog bark definately keep the riff raff away from my house. And, I felt very safe with her as my hiking campion. There's just something about having a dog of larger size that crazy peeps don't want to mess with. A good thing.
Border Collies can run like the wind. That's my never ending chase me dog on a road I don't go down anymore. All the gym roadies know the same with the border collies. The dog didn't want to bite me. Just heard my bike down like a sheep. Fun dog-mom exercise helps that energy (same with the labs).
Hope you have many happy healthy years together:).
Tulip - Get a good book on Border Collies, my favorite is The Versatile Border Collie (http://www.amazon.com/Versatile-Border-Collie-Elisabeth-Larson/dp/0931866928). They are my all time favorite breed but can tend to train their owner before you even realize it's happening. :D

I'm glad y'all like him. He's met my BF, and now all of you. He does like to play, but inside the house he's very calm. We're going to do an obedience class, mostly for me, but he does pull on the leash.
He has tons of personality, yet is still a velco dog and just likes to hang out with people. He's not much on other dogs, he can take them or leave them. He likes cats alot and would like to have one of his own, but I'm allergic to them.
I changed my hair for the winter, by the way. Easier when I have to get up early and go for dog walks.
Yes, I'm sure we'll have many happy ears...I mean years...together if day one is any indication. :)

He's so cute! I love the collar, too.
My friend and I walk her dogs with "gentle leaders". I highly recommend them.

What a cutie!
Our Tazz was half Aussie, to look at him anyway. He was SCARY smart. Do not let this dog challenge you to chess. :p

Congradulations! Nala approves!!! She also wants me to remind you to comb Shiloh's ears regularily, otherwise she'll get painful mats behind her ears :(. Nala has forgiven me for this mishap on my learning curve.
Herding dogs are loads of fun, and like to be kept busy. If you don't spend time with them, they'll find things to do.........
Walks are good. Maybe Shiloh will learn to play frisbee? Nala never did grasp the concept.

I love him!!! Where are you taking obedience classes at? Nigel pulls on the leash too. I'm not sure where in VA you are at, but the dog trainer at Hunt Club Farms (Virginia Beach) has a very good reputation.

Hi,
What a very cute dog. My mum has one that looks like yours. It is a Friese stabij. A Friese stabij is a Dutch dog that is used on farms to hunt for mice. Check this link: http://www.sudewyn.nl/friesestabijfotos.htm
I think yors is a Stabij (of part Stabij), and a cutie ofcourse.
Kind regards from Holland, Carlio

Wow, the markings on one of those Dutch dogs is just like Shiloh's, including the faint white line all the way up the center of his nose! The body type is border collie for sure, but the markings sure look like a Friese stabij.
Thanks!

Wow, tulip - if Shiloh is part boarder collie (that herd) and part Friese stabij (that hunt mice)...bring him to my house! We could totally use a dog like that to help around the farm. We've got one who hunts mice well enough...and another that is sort of getting the herding thing...but one dog to do both would be a joy.
If he ever needs a good workout, you can bring him to Oregon for a visit! ;)

Oh!!!! The herding dogs are just the best!! Shiloh looks as if he's just chocked full of personality! Those eyes are so bright. What a handsome dog!! Those ear could be Aussie ears - just not very well bred Aussie ears - prick ears are a "fault" for show, but oh so cute for the rest of us. Whatever he is - enjoy him!! He'll make a wonderful companion.
I have an Aussie (obviously, I guess), and he's just a joy. Smart, but sweet. Wanting to please me and be near me (yeah, total velcro). Will occasionally try to herd me to the refrigerator when he thinks it's dinner time (and no, I don't reward that behavior with dinner), but over all just the best dog.

He points. At squirrels and at birds. Well, his tail doesn't point, but his front foot lifts up and he focuses like crazy. And all those spots! So maybe he's part pointer. Whatever, he's alot of fun and good company.

What a great looking dog. Such an adorable face.
Chloe tends to pull on her leash when she sees a squirrel or the resident woodchuck. She wants at 'em so badly. :D
I hope you and Shiloh have many happy years together.

He doesn't like rain...I figured that out this morning. And he can be stubborn about it, too!

If you don't have some extra old towels, you might want to go out and buy some cheap ones to wipe wet paws and dry off your fur baby. I was in K-Mart not too long ago, and they had bath size towels for $1 each (think cheap hotel type). I bought a stack.

Mine hate the rain, they look at me like I am evil when I make them go out. They do have their own stockings which usually have a treat in it. They don't like toys and have sensitive tummies so it is usually just one treat.

oooh, I'm so envious!! congratulations on your new boy!
I was perusing the local SPCA for dogs, I still have such a huge spot for senior Rottweilers and found one that just broke my heart. He was neglected and was found emaciated but doesn't have a mean bone in his body and just wants a peaceful retirement home. I don't know if I'm ready to go back into it again, but I know when the time is right I'll end up with another senior dog.
That Shiloh is just bursting with joy!

Tulip! Shiloh is absolutely adorable! And I love the name you picked too, very sweet. Now about your new hairsytle......I thought your previous hairstyle was a large afro topknot( based on your avatar). so I thought the hairstyle was the least of your changes!:o, as I thought you were of African American ethnicity! Is there a story about your avatar? Tokie

She's Heather Small, the lead singer for M People, a great British dance/house band of the 90s. Love them, and I love her style. I went for a long time with no avatar, but then changed my mind about them. They are our alter-egos.
Shiloh was not treated very well in his previous life. He's terrified of children and extremely leary of strangers. I think the obedience class will help to socialize him, and hopefully he can learn to trust people again. He warmed up to me right away, but he's so interesting-looking that strangers want to come up and pet him and he doesn't like that at all. And I have to schedule our walks so that they don't conflict with school bus action (lots of kids in my neighborhood). He's an extremely good dog, though! I couldn't have asked for a better pup, especially since I haven't had one since Daisy (also a Border Collie) died in 1985.
