Decorating Your Bike?

I was just curious if any of you are decorating your bikes for Christmas? DH and I are going to put some of the new LED battery lights on our bikes and cruise through our neighborhood - we may put raindeer antlers on our bike helmets. Yeah, pretty corny, but hopefully we can spread some much needed cheer around here! Looking for other ideas, etc. I know that some of you did some amazing things with your bikes for Halloween for instance.

I have not put up/out Christmas decorations for several decades; but this year, yes I will be decorating me and/or my bike. You are right, it will make other people smile and we need all the smiles we can get this year. Thanks for reminding me to pick up the "decorations."

I'm hoping to outfit my BOB trailer with cardboard sleigh sides, find a santa of some sort to sit in BOB and get some antlers and reins attached to me. I would really like to get my daughter to ride her bike in front of me also attached with reins. But since I'm the only one with studded tires, she's not real excited about riding on the icy streets. So, santa may just have a single reindeer. I'd really like to add a red nose but haven't figured that out yet. :D bikerHen

This is how I was decorated a few years ago, for the Portland Holiday Parade (day after Thanksgiving) - Cycle Oregon sponsored a "float" of cyclists, all dressed in red (most in matching jackets) and Santa Hats for everyone. (We all had signs of all the towns in Oregon that Cycle Oregon has been to or gone thru). Every year, my DH and I still tape the Santa Hats to our helmets and wear them every ride in December, sometimes into January. Brings smiles to everyone, especially the kids. And it doesn't hurt that DH has a white beard and rosy cheeks :-)

Funny, never thought about decorating a bike for Christmas but makes more fun sense for night-time riding, especially with lights. Wow Evangundy, some real paraders here.

I will also post pics - people in Florida compensate for not having snow by getting nuts with Christmas lights, but I have not seen very many this year - everyone is kinda down due to the economy. And DH and I work nightshift, so we usually do not decorate outside our house. But the bikes will be a fun way to share the holiday and also ride around and look at what decorations our neighbors have outside. I have been bummed since it gets dark so early and our park trail closes, so this will give us good excuse to do some night riding too.

I don't ride when it's this cold out but I'll be looking for Geonz's bike, she puts a Christmas tree with lights on the deck of her xtracycle. :D

I have never had the urge to decorate my roadie. But over the years I have decorated our cars (battery-powered lights and tinsel on aerials) and myself a lot. In fact at work it is simply expected that from the 1st December I will commence the wearing of Christmas paraphernalia, building to a cresecendo of silliness on Christmas eve. You name it - I've worn it - even a full sized "present" suit (addressed to DH of course)!:o

Last year was my first year of mountain biking and the locals arranged a Christmas ride before Christmas, so I decorated my bike (tinsel and baubles on handlebars) my helmet (tinsel pompoms on springs like antlers and a bunch of tinsel) and me (battery lights on camelbak, red shirt). I wiped off my antlers on the first low-hanging branch that ride but managed to work out a better way to attach them for the rest of the festive season!:D

I'll be back at it again this year with even more enthusiasm!:p


PS: This led to even more decorating - bunny ears and a bunny tail for Easter, a Daisy on a stalk when I raced in a 24 Hour race in a team called the Dirt Daisies....... Be careful - it's addictive!
