I don't know about you, but this cycling season was......off. I lost most of March, August, and October. I just didn't feel like cycling much at all, maybe due to the economy? Anyway, I'm looking forward to January 1, 2009, in hopes of kicking off a great new year of cycling. :)

I am there with you. I didn't feel like cycling much in May, August or October. I did start a new job in August so I will use that as my excuse:rolleyes: 2009 will be GREAT!!!
My season was off too.
but I plan on taking the old Mariposa out on January 1st.
Might be just around the block though :o we'll see.

I know what you mean. I have felt like I spent more time working on my fit issues, vs riding. Which when riding causes pain, it's not fun. My hope is that there will be a wrap on that. So, I'm with you on looking forward to a good 2009:).

I had an off biking year too.
2007 I rode 3500 miles. 2008 only about 1700 miles maybe? Yikes, less than half!
The winter had icy slushy roads a lot, and I got several long colds.
Then in the Spring I hurt my hip and was off the bike completely for 6 weeks. :(
Then this summer and autumn we have had more work load than usual (not complaining about that, for sure).
So it's just been a really off year for riding for me. I am still riding regularly and enthusiastically though, just fewer miles per week. :)

It's been a weird year for me, too, even though my mileage was about the same as last year. In 2005 I rode 2400 miles, in 2006, 3,000, and about 2550 last year. This year I did 2500, maybe 25550. Since I got sick last fall, I didn't ride as much in the fall, even though I did a lot over the summer. This year, we only led 2 rides. I did commute to work twice a week from April until June 17. I seemed to ride more this fall, because I'm not working; however, I never seem to get to the group rides as much as I thought I would. One, is that when gas prices were high, I didn't want to drive far to the start. Also, I did not do very many long rides this year; most were 30-40 miles, instead of 50-70. I still have a lot of issues when riding, dealing with various sports injuries and pain from the fibromyalgia, but hey, I'm still out there. I think I've discovered that 2500 miles is my "limit." I do other sports, walking, hiking, weights, yoga and I like to vary my routine which seems to keep me in better shape, the older I get. I love cycling, but I get "sick" of it very easily if I ride too much and it becomes a chore.
I am going to try and focus less on miles next year and do more mountain biking, as I only used my mountain bike twice this year. I do wish I could hit the 3,000 mark again, though.

I had a rough start to the year with my gran dying, then I had a flu for over a month! After that I felt weak and out of shape and exercise felt so hard. It wasn't 'til the end of July, early August that I got myself going again. But I've been riding everyday and making up for lost time lately! I had a big slump, but I learned that it's not a disaster and that I could work my way back to feeling strong on rides again.

I'm glad I"m not alone..2006-2,250 miles. 2007-2,750 miles. The goal for 2008 was 3,000 miles. I just barely made it over 2000 at 2140 'ish. What a crappy year. I had high hopes, I just lost all umph and I had issues with becoming achey after my rides and took me like a week to recoup and do it all over again. Visited the dr. with no answers after several different labs drawn. Just me I guess. Hopefully 2009 will be a kick a&& kinda year.:D

I can totally relate.
2005 - 1800 miles
2006 - 2100 miles
2007 - 2600 miles
2008 - maybe 500 miles? really. :o
Between selling our house in Feb, our move across the country in March, new jobs, a new house, a farm, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
May 2009 be much better for all of us! :)

I doubled my mileage, but halved my enjoyment...burnout!

I'm way off what I set as my mileage goal at BJ. But I don't care. I'm in the best shape EVER. I did 4 triathlons this year, 2 sprint distance, an Olympic and a HIM. And I'm having fun with what I'm doing. I have 3 more 200Ks to do to get my R-12. I'll finish that in February. I'm starting to train to do a pretty hard double century in April. It's my white whale. I want to do the Auburn Triathlon in May and the same HIM I did this year in August.
