Does anyone here run with their dog? BF wants to take up running, and of course I'll join him (we've agreed that I'll take up some running again, but he has to ride with me :)). I'm a proud mommy to Karma, my whippet, who could definatley keep up, but I'm looking for pointers. How do you keep from tripping, etc?

First of all, does your dog do well on the leash? If not you might wanna do some basic obedience first. If your dog does well on the leash then she should stay far enough away from you and slightly behind so that she won't get in your way. You don't want the leash to drag but you don't want it so short that it pulls on your dogs neck all the time. You should be able to "pop" the leash if need be. Be loose, relaxed and confident and your dog should do fine.

I also have whippets, and used to run 5 k runs with them. No more than 2 at a time, on 6 foot leashes looped so they were confined beside me. The dogs had preferred positions, inside or outside, but would settle right in and stay beside me. If I was running on a trail, they'd lunge if somethiing ran across in front of us, but otherwise ignored other people or dogs.
I always walked them out a bit first so they could do their business; once we started jogging there was no stopping for marking, etc. They seemed to enjoy it and got right down to business once we started. They were never as tired as I was when we were done (I was never very fast).
