Is it just they show up this time of year? Are the bots getting more sophisticated? I only participate to this extent in one other online forum (really who has time for more ) and I'm not seeing it there, even though it's also vBulletin powered. What's going on???

I've been wondering the same thing. I've seen replies on this forum for a games program (I hesitate to use the name), and pepper-spray. And both obviously had nothing to do with the particular topic at hand.

Not bots anymore, I think real people that make money per click on their sites? I don't know.

Ah. I must not be following many threads.
When you see posts like that, just click on the little triangle on the lower left side of the offending message (under the poster's information), make a note that the message is spam, and our fine admins will remove it.

We have protocols in place to prevent as much spamming as possible, but no system is foolproof. Please, if you see a spam post, REPORT IT. You can do this by clicking the little red/white triangle below the poster's avatar.
One of the site admins (there are 4) will usually get to it pretty quickly.

I did report the ones I saw. My mouse seemed to find the little triangle, got a message window, filled it out, hit [send].

I'm afraid that spammers are like death and taxes. You can try to avoid them, but they catch up with you eventually.

You're doing great! The real test is what we don't see...not what we do.
At work, our IT folks filter out over 1 million spam emails each night...and we complain about the three or four that make it through:rolleyes:
