so I'm home sick, bored outta my skull, there's only dr. phil on tv so what else to do except play with my bike statistics... ;)

As of Friday last week I'd biked 8116 km this year. Very pleased about that, that's a new record. It's funny, this is my first full year owning a road bike, but only 28 % of those km are on the road bike. I'd thought I'd use it more, especially since my rides on the road bike tend to be longer. But I've ridden it only a little more than my mtb with studs (20%). Most rides were on my mtb w/o studs (51%). I've split them up this way because riding with and without studs makes a whole different ride.

Quarterly:
- first quarter: 71 % studs, 24 % mtb, 5 % road
- second quarter: 1 % studs, 41 % mtb, 57 % road. Training and a few races.
- third quarter: no studs, 81 % mtb, 19 % road
- fourth quarter so far: 19 % studs, 75 % mtb, 6 % road.

Now isn't that fascinating
ok, guess I could've posted this in Way on-going etc instead.

Next project: try out some skinnier studded tires, I think they cut through the snow better.
Oh, and get my workplace to buy a work stand to have in the garage.
I've made a list of all the tools I want for Christmas.

I'm booooooooooored. :o

I'm sorry you're bored... there's always you tube for funny bike clips. I also enjoy just staring at my bikes (two hang on the wall and one sits on the nice wood floor just messing it up). So, enlighten me on this studded tire business? Do you have favorite studded tires? I read once that you can make your own? In the commuting thread someone just posted a good link for me for studded tires, but since it sounds like you are an expert... (and since you're bored)...

hee-hee, thanks for the link. :p

Studded tires - I've only used Nokian Extremes with 294 (or is it 296 now?) studs, but I've listened to my dh complain about his "bad" tire slipping, it has fewer studs and is narrower. And I've figured the more studs the better. But I've noticed that the Extremes tend to pack up and "skate" if there's more than just a light dusting of new snow, and at the same time seen skinnier tires cut through the snow. So in powder snow over a flat surface like most of my commute I think narrower tires can be better, while broader tires with side studs attach better on irregular surfaces, like the never-plowed, permanently rutted from December til May local road which is my final 300 m stretch home.

Ana- I am totally converted to being a winterbell freek. That game reminds me of Pac-man when it first came out. I think I have been doing this for a half hour and I'm exhaused. Whew!! I have to stop.

lph-I hope your day was a good one. There is nothing like taking naps, reading books, playing Winterbells, or cooking that is fun to do in the winter. I hope your day was a good one.

Red RocK-new winterbell freek.
