This morning's rain gave the opportunity to test out one of the new Spinerval releases I recently purchased: Putting Down the Hammer! I paired it w/Bending Crank Arms.
PDtH is one bad azz way to spend 63 minutes on the trainer. This workout is intended to increase your LT and of course, your ability to withstand discomfort. Yes, it does ;)
I'm going from recall so this might not be 100% accurate, but you will an idea of the workout's intensity:
Typical warm up set
Second warm up set --- 3 minutes, 10 secs on/10 secs rest BCR 15.
Main Set --- 3 sets of 6 minutes each, going at your TT/racing pace or just above. You can pick your own gear (thank God) but you should sustain that pace the entire six minutes.
Interlude --- 2 sets of iso squats, one minute each in duration
Second Set --- 6 sets, one "killer" minute at the same sustained racing pace. Again, pick your own gear.
Final Set --- 4 30 second blasts -- first 20 seconds, BCR 15 and last 10 seconds, move her up to BCR 12, stand up & sprint.
Would I recommend this one? Absolutely. It's shot in a New Jersey car dealership and Troy has a good number of folks participating. You can select to use your own music, if you don't want to get down to the usual Spinervals tunes (although the ones on this DVD have more of a "jazz" favor to them).
Unfortunately, the weatherman on channel 9 predicted that we were going to get "a lot" of snow in December, so I expect that I'll be spending a lot of time w/Troy this winter. Maybe I'll plan to participate the the Concept2 holiday challenge and amass some rowing meters, too.
